Okay everybody ... the owner of this board pays $800 twice a year to keep us up and running, and more monies here and there for costs and fees. LET'S HELP WITH THESE COSTS!
Please know: Taco John DOESN'T LIKE THIS FUNDRAISER, and neither he nor the OrangeMane are endorsing any part of it. They don't want to seem like they're asking for money, and THEY'RE not. Let's hope many of us agree to Twice-Yearly kick-ins of between $5 and $25. July and January ... start of Training Camp, start of the Playoffs. Good point, okay: When you're in any PayPal account, you can transfer money to any e-mail address, it's pretty easily actually (I think that address must be linked to a PayPal account, but this one is, so no problema). ALSO, you should probably include your UserName with any PayPal transfer ... not that anybody's keeping track, but just for posterity I guess, so TJ will know. If you don't have a PayPal or a friend with a PayPal (use any friend's account, it's really easy, just give t'em a five or a ten or whatever and have them send that amount), then we'll find an address or something for you, I'm not really sure what yet.
And I totally agree, a "thermometer" or something to track the total would be great, but that's prolly not possible because TJ doesn't want to personally encourage this. Actually, TJ not wanting to ask for donations is much the same attitude as us wanting to give them ... most people want to pay their own way.
Plus there's another bonus - If you kick in, then you can shoot your mouth off in here and nobody can be the boss of you :~ohyah!:

Not to bushwack the thread but how about this for some quick cash?
I am a crewed charter sailboat in the Virgin Islands and have had Bronco Season Tickets from 1967 to 1995 we are free to do a charter the end of October, first of November. We could take 6 to 8 at the rate, which is cheaper than normal or $1,000 per head preferably half being couples. RAGAMUFFIN will donate 1/2 $3,000 to $4,000 to the Orange Mane to keep everything going. Price would include, one week of sailing, breakfast, lunch, and all the beer, "Colorado Koolaid", you can
drink. I know I am not supposed to advertise something on this site but having the site down for, "it felt like a month", was very frustrating.
We can be seen at http:www.caribbeancruisingclub.com/ragamuffin
Right now we are limin in Anegada and will be back in St Thomas Saturday. You can call me then, phone number is on the web site.

Slow down. Just using common sense here.
If the owner of this board was making 100 bucks a year from advertising banners (he has two of them) you think he would keep them? No. Whats the point of making board look annoying if he is only getting a check for 8 bucks a month?
I'm not telling anyone here not to donate, I'm just saying maybe the reason he doesn't endorse this thread is because he is actually making money from this site or the costs are extremely minimal to him.

Well, I've been here four years now, and he only added those ad banners I think in February or March '07 ... not so long ago ... and he did that begrudgingly (unless you think he's putting on an act for all his friends, which if you knew TJ you'd know isn't true). But use your noggin, noob ... the bandwidth is limited to the point that he's been forced to eliminate feature after feature: avatars, who's in this thread, user notes, etc ... If he were making money, why would he pull back on features to keep the site moving along?
But like I said above, I don't care what he makes on this site. I want to kick in a little something in for what I'm getting ot of it. $50 a year is less than 14 cents a day. I can handle it. And if enough of us kick in regularly, he'l probably bring back the features we like.
Welcome to the OrangeMane. I guess. ;D

I sincerely doubt the ad banners are bringing in that much. They're Google Ads, which are not CPM based (per impression).

Buff's going about it pro-actively though... he's seen a need and rather than just saying "something should be done," he's taking action to make it happen. I can't fault him for that at all... it's an admirable trait.

Big deal Sassy. He did that plus he sent to my house a banner and sign stakes saying DONATE TO THE ORANGE MANE. My wife just got a telemarketing call from Buff himself trying to get donations. I tried to contact him to tell him to cut it out, but his message stated he was out on the on ramp collecting change. Very pushy go getter. Ok Buff I donated, so I am not offended by this in the least......but i can see how people are offended. This is something TJ didn't even want, yet it seems like your forcing it on people. I know you didn't mean it to be that way, but i can see how people are taking it that way. I love helping TJ out, I love the mane, without it i wouldn't be able to go to all 16 games this year because i wouldn't know anyone and it wouldn't be fun....but with the mane ill always have people to tailgate with, talk to, get to know etc...... so thats why i donated. But there are people who are fine with the mane the way it is (myself included) i only donated to help TJ out, not to have him change it. I think it jsut came across over agressive especially with the rep, and comments like the one above, some people are happy with the way it is, some people dont have the money to help out, etc, and thats none of our businees. I think they could have become offended even though it says its voluntary. THE LAST THING TJ WANTS (not putting words into his mouth or anything) but he doesn't want people to leave the mane especially over something he didn't even endorse (correct me if im wrong TJ)................but again i know it was all in clean fun and you just wanna help out TJ and make the mane light years above any other football forum! So please dont take offesne to what i just said.....just trying to clear things up.

I see your point Sassy.....buff is working on something that can benefit all of us, and more importantly help out TJ for providing us with this great site. I can see how you came to the idea that buff went a little overboard. I was more than eager to donate....but after getting numerous attempts to get money it kinda turned me off to the idea. Yeah, I'm seriously really really sorry - I don't want to offend AT ALL. Actually, I come across strident on most things, it's my personality. ::)
I want to make clear:
This is NOT endorsed by the site or by Taco John. I said it about 10 times, and it's in my Sig
Like I said, donations should be 100% CONFIDENTIAL. If you want to let others know, to get the ball rolling, I thought you could "I'm in" (though I guess that can be pushy in a way).
The rep line I gave was just to the people who posted in my "Saints Board" thread, because I thought most of them were agreeing with me ... I did NOT mean that rep to be coercive. Sorry.
The Simpsons cartoon is really just a JOKE, I never meant that seriously. And be honest, Betty White is always good for a laugh, right? :~ohyah!:
I definitely agree with you that lots of users - I suspect about half - don't care about avatars or sigs or anything but the text (Hogan doesn't even read his reps), so it's not really incumbent upon them to kick in, at least not in terms of improvement.
I think my best point was, I don't care whether TJ is rich or poor site-wise, I just want to kick in for what I get ot of this place, which is a helluva lot. Shoot, $5 twice a year ($10 yearly) is less than 3 cents a day, and I'm sure most people get that much out of this place. But there I go being pushy again ;D

I don't care if he makes $10 grand a week ... I'm gonna pay a little something for what I'm getting out of it. Which is about three hours a day of entertainment and socializing. He said last year he makes enough money to pay server costs. I'd like to donate money but I'd like it to go to a better and bigger server so the site is available on game days and other big days when it goes down because it can't handle the traffic.
....Hogan doesn't even read his reps...
Hogan is clueless on a lot of things...including Brandon Marshall, his choice in baseball teams and the Pietasters musical acumen...but he is 100% on with his rep viewpoint.
I would rep him right now if it mattered to him for getting it or to me for sending it.

Again I am by no means speaking for TJ here........but i used to have a forum site for my beloved Red sox :welcome: I never wanted any donations....hell mine wasn't even half as updated as this place.....i think i was running on a server that cost me about 20 bucks a month. No pics, graphics, ect......just text. Someone decided to have a fund raiser.... kinda like this one because i was against it.......and it went great.... got enough money to run the thing for 3 full years..........thats when the problems began.
People started personally attacking other members of the board (which was a no-no like it is here) and i warned them and warned them.....then finally i had to suspend them because they wouldn't stop. Well then the whole arguement came about "you can't suspend me i paid to be here and if it wasn't for me your site wouldn't be running" "and hey i got suspended but User X didnt....is it because i didnt donate" and on and on and on......eventually i just canceled the whole thing.... the donations were a nightmare........hopefully that wont happen here...people seem pretty cool here......but i wouldn't be shocked at all if that wa sone of the reasons TJ doesn't want money from us.

Gee, thanks a lot. ::)
As for this whole donation deal, I see the issue as a private one. Buff is prone to heavy handed pledge drives and averages one seemingly per fiscal quarter. As he says, it's his nature, people shouldn't be surprised by it by now.

Perfect example here: I associate you with your animated SuperHeros avatar (or was it the SNL cartoon heroes?) ... kinda like Darkhawk with that animated blonde kid. I link the user with the avatar, they give personality, and I miss that. Plus I forget people without them, and I don't like that.

I heard on the light rail that buff is selling his sperm to help push the cause over the top.
The thing is - you didn't care how much he knew until you knew how much he cared. He's just planning for the future of the Mane - if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.

1600 bucks a year to keep it running and how much does he get from advertising? 2, 3 grand a year?
If anything, the owner of this board is enjoying owning this place and costs are extremely minimal to him.
Not even close.
This site has lots of traffic. The problem is, the traffic is not new traffic. Its all returning traffic that isn't looking to shop.
Id be surprised if he makes $1000 a year off the advertising.

It would be much easier to set a yearly fee and thin out the herd. Those that value the site will pay it. Those that do not won't and the site will run that much better as a result.
Easy solution. No begging, no need to disclose revenues or expenses. Just set the price and tell people what they will get. They will either take it or leave it.
Besides all the new money flowing into upgrading the site will only attract new users who don't value it. We'll be right back where we were in 6 months.

I know we had talked about the possibility of a "premium users/VIP board" on here before. Hell, I'd pay a hundred bucks a year just to be able to get on the site on gamedays without it sputtering to a halt.
I still like the idea of selling OM T-shirts as a fundraiser as well. With 10 billion registered users a couple of them must have an in with the shirt business.

so out of curiosity....how does isaac lopez transfer into Taco John? lol
Got a PM today that contained the following:
"isaac lopez" Ron Paul so i googled that ... and got this ... /gasp ...
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&c...& btnG=Search
Early Halloween morning, "Taco John" posted a message-board call to arms: "Baltimore Sun Hit Piece...TAKE ACTION NOW!"
The paper's political blog had an item marveling at how Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul had raised more money than "better-known Mike Huckabee, who is taken more seriously." Taco John took to an Internet forum frequented by Paul supporters, providing a link to the offending item, as well as phone and email information for the newspaper's public editor and advertising department. "They're trying to pigeonhole us," he wrote. "If we don't fight back, they'll keep doing it."
Taco John, the online moniker of Isaac Lopez, a 32-year-old technology marketer in Vancouver, Wash., is one of many cyber-soldiers for Dr. Paul, the Texas congressman, gynecologist and vociferous opponent of the Iraq war. The Paul brigade has largely drawn attention for its fund-raising prowess, raising a record $4.2 million online in a single day in November and leaving the 72-year-old politician with more cash on hand than several rivals and a $1 million TV ad budget for New Hampshire. But some Paul supporters are displaying an aggressive side that seems to spill beyond advocacy into harassment of those who disagree or fail to show Dr. Paul sufficient respect.
Taco John, for example, posted contact information for a university professor who called Dr. Paul "unqualified to be president." He also provided information on how to reach several reporters with whom he quibbled, as well as the Iowa Republican Party after it helped set rules for a debate -- later canceled -- that could have excluded the low-polling Dr. Paul.
Taco John -- the handle comes from Mr. Lopez's appreciation of former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway and tacos -- is a neophyte activist, who says he was inspired by Dr. Paul's libertarian platform.
WTF???

Taco John sets Fox Business Channel straight on Ron Paul's campaign
Posted by Tex MacRae at November 26, 2007 09:57 PM
The War Street Journal turned an encounter with Taco John into a hit piece (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB119587208818602847.html?mod=googlenews_wsj) on the Ron Paul Revolution. Taco John (Isaac (http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig8/lopez2.html) Lopez (http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig8/lopez1.html)) explains: (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=41793)
I got a PM the day after 11/5 from a reporter from the WSJ saying she wanted to talk with me about online campaigning. We connected, and when we spoke, she sounded very sympathetic, like she understood that there was a lot of unfairness in the media with how we are being treated. About halfway through the call, when Huckabee's name came up, she started to get a bit defensive and thus put me on the defense. I then had the feeling that this was going to be a smear peice. Apparently she thought it was "extreme" for us to be going around and finding contact information for the reporters and public commentators who were out there painting a negative picture about Dr. Paul, and his chances to become president. So she used a post that I made trying to rally the troops to fight the slander to make all Ron Paul supporters look off their rockers.
So, Fox Business Channel had him on to talk about how the graasroots supporters of Ron Paul had propelled the campaign into its current prominence. Taco John does an impressive job of refusing to allow the FBC host to marginalize or misrepresent the Ron Paul supporters: (See video above).
Here's Part One of the Interview ... Isaac starts at 4:30 in.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0lso3Kc5h_U&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0lso3Kc5h_U&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Kicking in in advance is great and everything, but for TJ to feel comfortable that he'll have consistent enough support to upgrade to avatar/other features, and be able to meet those obligations year in and year out, I'm hoping we can manage a consistent twice-yearly kick-in ... start of training camp, start of playoffs. $20 in advance for two years is the same thing of course, but $5 twice a year for two years provides stability.

Good points but is someone going to be in charge of reminding people. I can hardly remember to take out the trash every wednesday let alone a 2x a year donation.
Never fear ... board loudmouth BroncoBuff is here!
I'll start up a thread when the playoffs start (can't wait! ;D), and then when next year's TC starts, etc... etc...

$20 in advance for two years is the same thing of course, but $5 twice a year for two years provides stability.
.
I am trying to teach TJ the brilliance of savings. With the extra cash, he can put in a bond that collects interest to cover the trolls that always use space but probably dont pay ie. boob. I dont want to be picketed again at my home for another two years. Yesterday, you stomped all over my wifes flowers. If you must, stand in one place Mr. Buff. Going back in forth with chants is degrading to me and it puts insult to injury to the orchids.

I just posted this in the "slow server thread", but I thought I would make my 'pitch' for people helping out here as well.
As has been discussed, TJ needs to upgrade the server. The more people that support him, by making donations, the easier it will be for him to pull the trigger to upgrade the server.
Leased servers aren't cheap, and making a change to a new server will be a "major" PITA, so if everyone puts their money where their mouths are and helps out by donating $5, $10, $25, $50 or $100 (whatever you can afford, be honest with yourself), then as I said you will make it much easier for TJ to pull the trigger and upgrade, even though it will still be a lot of hard work for him even if he gets the donations to help offset the costs.
So, if you haven't done so already, go to the first post in this fund raising (http://www.orangemane.com/BB/showthread.php?t=69564) thread and donate what you can, and 'commit' to doing so every six months. TJ has provided a great message board for a long time, so while I know some have helped out in the past, it's time for more of us to belly up to the bar and help out.
Many of you pay $5 for a Starbucks coffee or $8 for a beer at a ball game. Those small pleasures last for a couple minutes. The Orangemane is here for you year round. So, why not skip a couple Starbucks or beers this month, and make a commitment to support this message board. Then, hopefully TJ can upgrade the server, and there won't be anymore threads about being slow or not having avatars.

I have to wait for Friday to roll around. Mortgage just went out and seeing if I can do anything still. Both my kids are going to the doctor today and that going to cost me 80 in co-pays so I doubt I can get it in still, but I plan on helping just dont know when I can do it.

That is one FUNNY post. I'm laughing, so I'll comply :)
(I'm actually thinking Boob might kick in $5 twice a year ... like I say, 5 bucks is just one fast-food meal, and the Boob is dieting pretty hard these days, so we might have some synergy there .. prove me right Clay!)

I was going to toss in 40 bucks until pay pal started asking for my bank account number. Not gonna happen. Alternatives?

Hey TJ, I'm curious...has Boob contributed? He spends more time on here than most of us non-closet-Broncos fans, afterall.
