This represents a continuation of Obama's front-runner position evident in the last three Gallup Poll Daily tracking updates. The margin, coincident with the extensive U.S. news coverage of Obama's foreign tour, is the largest for Obama over McCain measured since Gallup began tracking the general election horserace in March.

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll)

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows Barack Obama attracts 46% of the vote while John McCain earns 41%. When "leaners" are included, it’s Obama 49% and McCain 44%. McCain’s numbers are up a point from yesterday while Obama’s remain unchanged. Obama is viewed favorably by 56% of voters, McCain by 55%. Tracking Polls are released at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time each day. Rasmussen Markets (http://rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/latest_results_from_rasmussen_markets) data gives Obama a 63.9 (http://rasmussen.intrade.com/aav2/trading/contractInfo.jsp?conDetailID=68256)<script type="text/javascript">contract_type = "rasmussen";contract_id = 68256;node_id = 9654 + "_" + 8613;new Ajax("/extension/ajax/intrade_lastprice.php", {data: 'contractID=' + contract_id + '&contract_type=' + contract_type,method: 'get',update: $('intrade_' + node_id)}).request();</script> % chance of winning the White House.
Obama has enjoyed a modest bounce in the polls since his Berlin speech on Thursday (see recent daily results (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/general_election_match_up_history)). To this point, however, he has not reached the 50% level of support or expanded his lead beyond where it was a couple of weeks ago. Over the coming week, it will be interesting to see if Obama could open an even bigger lead and move above the 50% level of support. That would be significant both in the context of this campaign and historically. Since Abraham Lincoln was elected as the first Republican President in 1860, the only Democrats to win the White House with a majority of the popular vote have been Franklin D. Roosevelt, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Jimmy Carter.
It is also possible, of course, that the bounce will fade along with memories of the Obama overseas tour.
Each Saturday morning, Rasmussen Reports also reviews the week’s key polls to see What They Told Us. When leaners are included, it’s Obama 273, McCain 227.
Daily tracking results are collected via telephone surveys of 1,000 likely voters per night and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. When the guy he's trying to replace was asked a question about Italy, Dumbya's response was "that's the one that looks like a boot, right?"
What is it about the GOP and its penchant for choosing complete dunces, old, washed-up B movie actors, etc, as presidential candidates?

Obama doesn’t expect trip bounce
By MIKE ALLEN | 7/26/08 6:06 PM EST
Campaign manager David Plouffe says Barack Obama's smooth foreign swing will help win votes in the long run but won’t produce an immediate surge in polls.
“We wouldn’t expect any sort of — I guess the term people use is ‘bounce,’” Plouffe said by phone from campaign headquarters in Chicago.
The manager, noting that he pays less attention to national polls than polls in key states, said his campaign views the general election as “five months in totality.”
“We view everything as kind of a package — there’s not going to be any one thing that is decisive,” he said. “It was an important week, but it was just one week in this campaign. Come Nov. 4, this week will be important to voters, but every week will be.”
----------------------------------------
I don't think they'd be saying this if their internals were positive. Obama's trip got saturation adoring coverage with reporters like Christianne Amanpour tossing their panties at him. If that doesn't give him a polling bounce, that has to be a bitter disappointment to them behind closed doors.

I predict a landslide for Obama....yes even after the debates and the VP's are announced. THAT is the immense damage Bush and his admin have done to their party. Here in Utah I'm seeing bumper stickers that say Republican for Obama. It's widespread.
Go ahead and mark it down, show it to me when the election is over. I'm predicting a landslide.

Wrong on both counts.

The old fart is moving up in the polls not down. As people change their mind wanting off shore drilling and such, Obama is deciding where he wants to stand on issues and sometimes that has been on the wrong side of the fence. He is way over his head. I still probably wont vote for McCain but at least I know he could be qualified for the presidency. I cant say that for a newbie like Obama. Many that saw Obama as the second coming might be rethinking their position.

State Polls Today
PA: O +9
WA: O +11
NC: M +3
But didn't one poll show McCain ahead nationally?
Well, as I broke (go me), and was picked up around the net - not really - it was fudging the numbers. In that very poll of registered voters, Obama polled at 423 voters compared to McCain's 396. To get to McCain to be +4%, they removed 60+ voters from Obama - basically left McCain's number as is - and called it a ''likely voter model''. Not to mention, that entire poll took place on over the weekend - not exactly the best time to reach Obama's youth base.
Edit: Poblano of FiveThirtyEight.com (http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/) has Obama the highest he's been in weeks today.

I'm personally a strong believer in people being educated and trained for their positions in this country.
McCain: Military academy grad, trained in aviation. Never held a command position, has had several decades of senate experience, though not without significant ups and downs. House of representatives for 4 years, U.S. Senate for 22 years.
Obama: Columbia and Harvard Law grad specializing in civil rights law, between each step of education worked with community groups. Taught civil rights and constitutional law at a premier law school (U of Chicago Law) and worked for some of the preeminent law firms in the nation. Illinois senate for 7 years, U.S. Senate for 4 years.
Now McCain does have 11 years of political service over Obama, but then Obama has three extra years of schooling that can be directly applied to governing, 3 years in community organization groups (obviously very applicable), and multiple years studying, teaching, and practicing law.
That gap of experience isn't so big when you consider that McCain has no low level training for the political field, whereas Obama has extensive training in fields associated with the political system in this country, from having an in depth understanding to our legal structure, hands on community organization experience, and a high level education on what this country is founded on.
Obama has basically lived a public life since he finished undergrad. Not very high profile no, but he's been politically and socially active that entire time. Its not like he only just hopped into the political arena.

that and mccain finished almost dead last in his military academy. go mccain!
And has a prime suspect in one of the worst financial scandals of the 80's and 90's.
The big thing that makes me give McCain less credit for his experience though is that he's basically flipped on all the things he preached for 16 years when he lined up behind Bush in order to make a presidential bid. The oval office seems more important to him than sticking by the stances that got him to where he is at this point.

I stand by my prediction. I believe the American public that follow the Republican philosophy and voted for Bush, especially in the last election are feeling betrayed. Bush's admin has put this country in a very precarious position diplomatically, economically, and overall, everyday survival wise. With McCain doing a flip flop in his own philosophy, for me into 2004, and aligning more with Bush's admin philosophies, he killed himself. There has been a significant increase in those Bush voters who are begrudgingly going to the other side this election because they don't believe the Republican party when they voice their intentions. They'll take their chance at being screwed by the other side right now.
Why wouldn't you vote for the man you think most qualified to be President?
