View Full Version : I wonder if a lip confession will be enough for Lord Obama?
Anyone want to take a stab at the doctrinal foundation for his newly established faith?
Grounds for salvation?
What caused the fall?
Who will burn in hell forever?
Any Dem here have a problem or two with this guy? Care to share those issues while you still have the right? Will the media actually hurt the Messiah’s chances, as people get sick of the fainting and fawning (and that’s just the media/marketing team?)
Its not that he’s popular that concerns me, but it’s when the support turns into rock-star adoration, and borderline worship that creeps me out. Too many free passes are being given out when the heat and scrutiny should be the strongest.

you can say that again, McCains' Gaffes & screw ups are mindboggling. Yet the media gives him a free pass every time. I thought they couldn't get any worse than GWB but John McCain takes the cake. If Obama scerwed up as much as John McCain the media would be all over it like white on rice.

Its not adoration or worship, its relief that we finally have a candidate who understands and accepts the fact that the president of the United States is also the leader of the ever growing free world.
Unilateral military stances and isolationist tactics are becoming hall marks of the GOP (not to mention rampant spending). Those aren't acceptable stances for many of our country's citizens, and even fewer of this world's citizens.
No adoration or worship, just a belief in his willingness to bring about that kind of world leadership again and a respect for someone so willingly turning down a sure fire legal fortune to provide that kind of service to this nation.

I was just watching Dan Abrams. He showed how Fox is using eight year old film on their coverage of McCain tonight - to make him look younger! Ha! The sound copy is talking about where McCain went today, and how he gave a speech in New Orleans (or something) and they show this screaming crowd with McCain waving and smiling. Then Abram freezes the tape and you can see the date on all the McCain signs the crowd is waving: 2000. Hilarious!

The one thing that is worse than bad press is no press, or apathy by the press. I kinda see it as the media not giving a crap about McCain. Because if they actually thought he posed a problem, they'd be talking about his shortcomings, not covering them up.
You have to look at the picture behind the picture Spide. It's not the media's place to cover up gaffs, it's their place to report the news, not edit it.
This is sad, not good. Even if you hate McCain, you can't reasonable argue that what the media is doing is right, or correct.
I see this as another way the media has been compromised.

Well written lampoon of the adoration of Obama.
From The Times
July 25, 2008
He ventured forth to bring light to the world
The anointed one's pilgrimage to the Holy Land is a miracle in action - and a blessing to all his faithful followers
Gerard Baker
And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.
The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.
When he was twelve years old, they found him in the temple in the City of Chicago, arguing the finer points of community organisation with the Prophet Jeremiah and the Elders. And the Elders were astonished at what they heard and said among themselves: “Verily, who is this Child that he opens our hearts and minds to the audacity of hope?”
In the great Battles of Caucus and Primary he smote the conniving Hillary, wife of the deposed King Bill the Priapic and their barbarian hordes of Working Class Whites.
And so it was, in the fullness of time, before the harvest month of the appointed year, the Child ventured forth - for the first time - to bring the light unto all the world.
He travelled fleet of foot and light of camel, with a small retinue that consisted only of his loyal disciples from the tribe of the Media. He ventured first to the land of the Hindu Kush, where the
Taleban had harboured the viper of al-Qaeda in their bosom, raining terror on all the world.
And the Child spake and the tribes of Nato immediately loosed the Caveats that had previously bound them. And in the great battle that ensued the forces of the light were triumphant. For as long as the
Child stood with his arms raised aloft, the enemy suffered great blows and the threat of terror was no more.
From there he went forth to Mesopotamia where he was received by the great ruler al-Maliki, and al-Maliki spake unto him and blessed his Sixteen Month Troop Withdrawal Plan even as the imperial warrior Petraeus tried to destroy it.
And lo, in Mesopotamia, a miracle occurred. Even though the Great Surge of Armour that the evil Bush had ordered had been a terrible mistake, a waste of vital military resources and doomed to end in disaster, the Child's very presence suddenly brought forth a great victory for the forces of the light.
And the Persians, who saw all this and were greatly fearful, longed to speak with the Child and saw that the Child was the bringer of peace. At the mention of his name they quickly laid aside their intrigues and beat their uranium swords into civil nuclear energy ploughshares.
From there the Child went up to the city of Jerusalem, and entered through the gate seated on an ass. The crowds of network anchors who had followed him from afar cheered “Hosanna” and waved great palm fronds and strewed them at his feet.
In Jerusalem and in surrounding Palestine, the Child spake to the Hebrews and the Arabs, as the Scripture had foretold. And in an instant, the lion lay down with the lamb, and the Israelites and Ishmaelites ended their long enmity and lived for ever after in peace.
As word spread throughout the land about the Child's wondrous works, peoples from all over flocked to hear him; Hittites and Abbasids; Obamacons and McCainiacs; Cameroonians and Blairites.
And they told of strange and wondrous things that greeted the news of the Child's journey. Around the world, global temperatures began to decline, and the ocean levels fell and the great warming was over.
The Great Prophet Algore of Nobel and Oscar, who many had believed was the anointed one, smiled and told his followers that the Child was the one generations had been waiting for.
And there were other wonderful signs. In the city of the Street at the Wall, spreads on interbank interest rates dropped like manna from Heaven and rates on credit default swaps fell to the ground as dead birds from the almond tree, and the people who had lived in foreclosure were able to borrow again.
Black gold gushed from the ground at prices well below $140 per barrel. In hospitals across the land the sick were cured even though they were uninsured. And all because the Child had pronounced it.
And this is the testimony of one who speaks the truth and bears witness to the truth so that you might believe. And he knows it is the truth for he saw it all on CNN and the BBC and in the pages of The New York Times.
Then the Child ventured forth from Israel and Palestine and stepped onto the shores of the Old Continent. In the land of Queen Angela of Merkel, vast multitudes gathered to hear his voice, and he preached to them at length.
But when he had finished speaking his disciples told him the crowd was hungry, for they had had nothing to eat all the hours they had waited for him.
And so the Child told his disciples to fetch some food but all they had was five loaves and a couple of frankfurters. So he took the bread and the frankfurters and blessed them and told his disciples to feed the multitudes. And when all had eaten their fill, the scraps filled twelve baskets.
Thence he travelled west to Mount Sarkozy. Even the beauteous Princess Carla of the tribe of the Bruni was struck by awe and she was great in love with the Child, but he was tempted not.
On the Seventh Day he walked across the Channel of the Angles to the ancient land of the hooligans. There he was welcomed with open arms by the once great prophet Blair and his successor, Gordon the Leper, and his successor, David the Golden One.
And suddenly, with the men appeared the archangel Gabriel and the whole host of the heavenly choir, ranks of cherubim and seraphim, all praising God and singing: “Yes, We Can.”

McCain returns to NH with visit to Rochester
By SCOTT BROOKS
New Hampshire Union Leader Staff
Tuesday, Jul. 22, 2008
MANCHESTER – "Mac" is back.
Sen. John McCain returned to New Hampshire last night, flashing an "OK" sign at an aide as he stepped out onto an airport tarmac in Manchester.
The Arizona Republican will be in Rochester today. He is slated to speak at the Rochester Opera House at noon.
Campaign staffers said McCain will take questions during the event, which is open to the public. No tickets are required.
A spokesman, Jeff Grappone, said other events may be announced today.
"John McCain will continue to talk about the issues that matter most to New Hampshire voters," Grappone said, "including leading America to energy independence, unleashing the economy by keeping taxes low and expanding access to affordable, quality health care."
The senator's low-key arrival in Manchester stood in stark contrast to his Democratic rival's ongoing visit to the Middle East. Sen. Barack Obama, of Illinois, was swarmed by media as he arrived in Baghdad yesterday for a meeting with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and other Iraqi leaders.
It was the second leg of Obama's excursion, following a visit to Afghanistan over the weekend.
McCain spent most of the day in Maine, where he joined former President George H.W. Bush in Kennebunkport and later campaigned in Portland with the state's two Republican senators.
In Manchester last night, there was just one reporter and one photographer waiting for McCain as his plane -- a white, blue and gold Boeing 737-400 emblazoned with his campaign slogan, "Reform, Prosperity, Peace" -- touched down on the Wiggins Airways tarmac.
The Vietnam War veteran limped as he made his way down the metal stairway, a leather briefcase in one hand and a cell phone in the other, and walked straight into an awaiting Chevy Suburban.
Yesterday, the McCain campaign announced it was releasing a new ad in New Hampshire.
The ad, entitled "Pump," says voters can "thank" Obama for rising gas prices at the pump and says McCain "knows we must now drill more in America and rescue our family budgets."
McCain's appearance in Rochester today marks his third campaign stop in New Hampshire since he clinched the Republican Presidential nomination in March. The candidate's last visit to New Hampshire was on June 12, when he spoke at Daniel Webster College in Nashua.
Grappone said the campaign was prepared for an "overflow" crowd at the Rochester Opera House at 31 Wakefield St. Doors open at 10:30 a.m.
The Rochester Opera House hosted several presidential campaign stops in the lead-up to this year's New Hampshire Primary. Obama spoke there on the night of Jan. 7, hours before the polls opened.

I think I just threw-up in my mouth -- shocking that this is your evidence of bias for McCain, written by whom? Dude, there are those that lean left here, but at least try to get credible sources.
Take a stop-watch – time CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC (and I bet even FOX) and record coverage of McCain vs. Obama -- now, that would be interesting to get some numbers over lets say a week. Do you honestly think it would be longer or more positive for McCain? Of course not -- there is little need for me to argue the point -- any honest person knows what they would likely see.
You can love Obama (or whatever Dem) they throw up, but you might want to keep your feet grounded. McCain is held to one higher standard, and ignored. Obama is a rock star/ Messiah, so the net result is their are less folks from the "main stream" asking tough questions -- and that is a net loss for Americans because the media have forgotten their responsibility to report the news, but their first priority has shifted to promote those who hold their ideological and political views. Promotion doesn’t help the American people who are awash in information signifying nothing.
Wow, talk about a nice cop out. What I saw was a tenacious Clinton running on issues, unlike Obama, who is running on media hype.

Yeah, Wright.
How about the fact that Phil Gramm, the man primarily responsible for the Enron loophole and who's wife was an Enron employee, being his campaign chair? Or the various right wing evangelicals he courted who have since said equally disparaging comments about minorities and other Christian denominations since?
Obama distanced himself from Wright well before the election, largely because while Wright was a valuable religious teacher his political views differed significantly from Obama's. Why hasn't McCain done the same? Or maybe its that he doesn't differ very much in opinion to the "nation of whiners" BS that came out of Gramm's mouth, and he enjoys the fact that our news media chooses to sweep it all under the rug for him while they rush to tell us all about Obama's favorite toothpaste.
there is little need for me to argue the point -- any honest person knows what they would likely see.
There is little positive to report on McCain period at this point, so instead of reporting all the gaffes and foibles of his up to this point horrible campaign the news outlets are all covering Obama and his well ran campaign. Fox News hardly gives him positive coverage, or many other right wingers (such as Glen Beck and Rush). But its still who they talk about because none of them want to expose McCain for the flimsy candidate he really is.
And the failings of Air America and the mainstream newspapers has more to do with the left largely turning to the internet than this belief you have that Americans don't want to hear how badly off the country is. Most of America knows how badly off we are, hence the horrible ratings for our president, senate, and congress as well as the economy being priority #1 for the vast majority of U.S. citizens this election cycle.
People know how ****ty America is doing right now, some want smoke blown up their asses by the right wing sermonizers, some want to effect real change. The first knows where to turn (Fox News, Beck, and Rush) the later typically go to the web, making use of the new media source.

McCain is weak, yet how far behind is he? 3 points. So with teh 24 news outlets working for Obama teh weak McCain is behind by 3 points, about the same as Bush was behind Kerry this time during the last election cycle. The rock star Messiah crap is wearing very thin, and might back-fire.

Correct in part -- the Internet has hurt newspapers ... lack of being in-line with normal people has NOT helped their cause as well.

For the record -- there is nobody on TV, or radio that has a more bleak outlook, brutally honest take on the ecomony and what Bush, and the Congress is doing to it than Beck -- I actually listen to him. Regarding Rush, your right -- he thinks how bad things are is largely created by the media (I am not a huge Rush fan.)

I think I just threw-up in my mouth -- shocking that this is your evidence of bias for McCain, written by whom? Dude, there are those that lean left here, but at least try to get credible sources.
That's a shortcut to (a) actually reading the book, and (b) having to assess whether its facts are in order and its claims are true or not.
BTW, Brock used to be a major-league right-wing media hit man, so he has some inside perspective on McCain's treatment by the corporate media.

Those poor people in the top 1%. Maybe we can take up a collection?
:yep: ROFL!
Poor widdle super-rich - I think they need another round of tax cuts, government subsidies, and corporate welfare.
Idiot comparisons ... if it was comparible McCain would be out of the race and woudl be in treatment for his hate.
How is it an idiotic comparison?
Obama distanced himself well before his political race from Wright, knowing their views differed.
McCain outright courted Hagee, who had made many controversial remarks prior to that, and only disavowed his support after a similar episode.
So I don't know, but to me that seems like a pretty strong corollary, and on in which McCain comes out looking far worse.
Or hell, if you think that is too "vague" a connection how about Phil Gramm, McCain's long term friend and the very co-chair of his presidential bid? The guy who said we're only in a "mental recession", that we're a "nation of whiners", and who's wife was working for Enron when he pushed through the very utilities loophole they used to extort the state of California. Funny that his wife cashed in all her stock options and left the company just before the **** hit he fan too.
6 points, and if you factor in more than a two party election he's down by 13.
That is in part due to McCain not having any of his horrible gaffes trotted out and discussed on the nightly news, because the media (which he himself as joked is "his base") sweeps it under the carpet. It is also largely due to the flawed polls being ran. A large chunk of Obama supporters aren't registered democrats or republicans and so are not on most call lists, another large segment doesn't own land lines. Similar polling anomalies made it look like Hillary Clinton actually had a chance, which she really didn't.
Correct in part -- the Internet has hurt newspapers ... lack of being in-line with normal people has NOT helped their cause as well.
What is a "normal person" then by your definition? A straight laced conservative you believes without question in the free market, Jesus Christ our savior, and only ****s his wife missionary style?
Sorry pal, we're a melting pot and the print media was doing just fine under worse economic times than we face now. Basically every market analyst sees nothing but conclusive proof that print media is dieing thanks to the internet, while television and radio medias are taking a pretty good blow on the chin at the same time. That is the very reason they're all rushing to get up to date with web content, its the only way to save their sorry asses. Be that the conservative channels, like Fox News, or the liberal ones.
You should try to stop being a caricature of an uninformed conservative rube. Go actually read up on some of the real issues and don't parrot "Yeah, Wright" from your apparent Messiah, Glenn Beck (arguably the most uninformed, unsubstantiated blow hard who works diligently to blame all our country's ills on anything not neo-con, including Bush when he isn't at his 100% neo-con best).
It only takes a little unbiased research to stop being a mouthpiece of someone else's PR machine, try it some time.

i guess i dont think that communism is normal, nor the hate america stuff they try to force feed thier readership -- so thatid one reason why thet are loosing customers.
Again I listen to Beck, so I know he bashes him every time I have listened -- so dont confuse him with Rush and Henidork ... (I know all conservative look alike to you) but they are different.
Agiain obama made the choice to hang out in the pews of a bigot for 20 years, and donate large amounts -- Mccain had an endorsement.
for me -- I not going to vote for mccain -- i assume you will vote for Messiah of secularism, Lord Obama, so Mcain might be a bastard too (I think for different reasons) many on teh left cant see, or wont see, or will choose to ignore the faults of the Messiah -- which I think is stupid. Think Germany 1932 and Russia 1917 (much more extreeme examples -- yes) But humanity gets into trouble when support turns into Idol worship -- especially when we have very hard economic times. Think of it like a marriage -- go in with your eyes wide open -- you cant see stuff to be concerned about if folks see this guy as a rock star -- he could fart in public and folks would cheer, "Yes we can!!! Dont trust any of these guys, and we will better off.
People did teh same thing with Ron Paul.

1. Name me one communist stance any major democratic or republican candidate has. Conservatives bandy about that word, as well as calling someone a socialist, like candy yet they never back it up. There isn't a single communist or socialist stance coming from Obama or McCain on any of the current issues.
2. Obama's a secularist? Really? Then why do sites like Beliefnet have him rating an 8 out of 10 on their little "god-o-meter"? Hell, he's as close to a theocratic candidate as GWB ever was, and that is a whole lot more religious than anyone we've had in the 20 or so years prior.
The big difference here is that Obama doesn't tout just one religion. He himself is a christian, but he often talks about how all religions need to be welcomed into the public square, all given equal weight and respect, as that is the only way to govern a nation of mixed faith equitably.
A lot of people on the left can't stand that because they view religious expression the same way the evangelical right view homosexual partnership. Obama doesn't seem to care though and he is very open with his faith.
3. Obama attended a church lead by one of the foremost scholars of christian theology. That person happened to have a radical political view, but at the same time does that mean every evangelical who has listened to Hagee is as racist as him? Hardly. Trinity UCC is the most prominent black church in the city of Chicago and it was where he was by and large introduced to orthodox Christianity. I'd hope it would be where he attended mass for a long period of time as it is a strong christian institution, despite what one pastor's radical political beliefs might be.
And I don't know anyone who is voting for Obama because of idolatry. I know a lot of people are voting for him because he would end the war in Iraq as quickly as possible and bring our troops home. I know a lot of people who are voting for him because he has a much more modern view of Native American rights (my girlfriend is an anthropologist, they care a lot about that). I know a lot of people who are going to vote for him because he's simply the better educated candidate, being a lawyer who has actually taught constitutional law, when it comes to reverting the significant damage GWB and Cheney have done to our civil rights.
Me personally, I'm voting for him because of all the above and also because he's got a far better energy plan than McCain, one built on legitimate short, medium, and long term goals, primarily improving our energy efficiency with new technologies, updating the electric grid to a truly free market system that we all can partake in, and investing in R&D and commercialization of the next generation of energy technologies in a way that will actually bare results.
I'm voting for him because he's actually running for president and has legitimate stances on issues that will make the world better, unlike McCain who is running as the "don't vote for that guy" candidate and is just telling people what they want to hear (we can drill our way out, $300M for a car battery that might never see the market, don't worry about your civil liberties 'cause we're keeping you safe, etc.).

:yep:
That's the radical right's favorite straw man - anyone who opposes their "privatize everything" free market religion is a "socialist."

the yahoo that you voted for went on a spending spree turning a surplus into a huge deficit.. and now you don't want to pay for it?Silly repubs. think money grows on trees.

It's ironic that the party of ''conservative government spending" (Reagan, Bush & Shrub) have probably spent more than all other Presidents combined.
There will be tax increases, but the details are what I'd like to see from both candidates.
To begin, roll back some of the corporate tax concessions (not capital gains) and get the ultra rich to pay an even larger share.
The boom in mega yachts alone should tell us something about who has benefited disproportionately from some of the extraordinary tax breaks.
Increasing taxes without sending the economy into a tailspin is going to be a tricky maneuver.

Bush has spent like a drunken sailior -- Republicans (very few of them at least) and fiscal conservatives. I dont see Obama spending less then Bush -- any savings in pulling out of Iraq will be blown in new programs and his new "shared poverty" program.
I only think that Ron Paul and Bob Barr would likely spend less than Bush -- McCain would likely spend too much.

Go check out the Economist article W*GS recently posted that breaks down both's tax plans. Obama's tax plan will actually reduce taxes for anyone who makes less than $250K, but at the same time closing corporate loop holes and returning taxes for the wealthiest 2% to slightly below Clinton levels will give us billions extra.
McCain's will pull in even less than Bush, only marginally help the middle class that doesn't have kids, and he plans to cover the huge income gap by just "spending less", but he doesn't want to end the war in Iraq.
One of them is going to improve the economy and at the same time be able to attack the deficit. The other is blowing smoke up people's asses and will drive this country further into debt. Not real hard to see which one.
