Here is an additive that is being explored for diesel fuel. I was developed by a high-school student and it is based on sawdust.

Basically 20% of your fuel usage can be based on it and it costs about 80 cents a gallon. It isn't clear how far it is from the marketplace though.

Good luck to that kid, I hope that sees the light of day. Right now I'm getting about 7.3 mpg in my truck, which is pretty good. But I have to drive about 62-63 mph to get those results.
I've wondered if some kind of diesel-electric concept like what the locomotives have is feasible.

They better never make that stuff. I have a hard enough time getting wood pellets as it is.

80 cents per gallon ....... I have 150 tanks .......... might be worth looking into , the 86 pete I am driving now gets 4.5 per gallon

While this thread is open, any of you truckers ever try soy biodiesel? Some of the guys who've hauled waste on hazmat jobs I've done said they liked it a whole lot better than diesel with ethanol additive, what say you all?
