View Full Version : Anyone talk to Slap?

I know Slap hasn't been around for ages, but I sent him an email a week or two ago and never received a reply.

Anyone out there keep in touch with him?

I'm pretty sure he got banned and just decided to not come back. He had given an email address awhile back but like I said, I got no reply.

I just checked his profile, and for some reason it doesn't list "date of last activity." I wonder why? I used to look there to see where Tredici would sign on - even after she stopped posting. But no such liosting for Slap.

I miss Clockwork Orange a lot too ... he was equal or better than any poster I thought. For content, anyway.

Mile High Shack turned out to be a real richard, though. I had once long ago e-mailed him an mp3 song he wanted. So a few months after he and the rest left the site, I dropped him a line, "how you guys doing?" No response. Three or four months later, I tried again ... and got a 3-wrod reply: "lose this address"

Pretty sad I thought.

I've talked to old slappy on the phone a few times. Last was after the draft. When we talked about the Mane he said "that place is dead to me" so don't expect him to visit again. He's in good spirits. He was pissed we took Royal (Slap hates small players of any variety) but thrilled we took Clady and said "Let me guess, I haven't been on there in a month but half the board was upset we didn't take a running back!" which started me laughing.

Anyway he's doing fine, but he's moved on and so we must. I'll call him again sometime here down the road. I know for a fact he really misses llama. ;) We could have used him during the Marshall fiasco. He would have made the excuse-a-thoners into complete fools. :~ohyah!:

Ton of newcomers bogging down and drowning out good content.

You really think so? I don't think the overall content of this site has changed that much since I started. There's been turnover in posters, good and bad, but I think that had helped reduce the harsh elitism and cliques that made this place a little unfriendly when I first signed up. Most of the people who ditched the place left because they were butt hurt about not being the big men on campus anymore. A bunch of people that couldn't handle being treated like everyone else on the board.

I'm not saying they weren't good posters and maybe didn't add something to the forum. I'm saying that we have a lot of newer guys that add good content too.

Meh. It's a pretty simple rule: don't attack people's family members. What am I supposed to do? Force everyone BUT Slap to follow this rule? Wishing death on someone's entire family over something he said on a football forum is completely over the top.

Since I've never addressed this, I'll go ahead and do so and I'm speaking only for myself here. I left because I wasn't enjoying this place anymore. That's it. I simply wasn't having fun, so I went away. No, it's not nearly as dramatic as the people who claim that I was a part of some "fight the power" or "stick it to the man" movement want it to be. It just wasn't fun anymore. People always said that if you don't like how things are around here, there's the door. I used it.

I still check in from time to time because there are people here I like, respect and whose posts I enjoy reading, not to mention, as Roman Maroni would say, "It's a free country, icehole."

So there you have it. On with your regularly scheduled programming.

thats just an awful thing to do, especially when you were just trying to be nice and say hello.

personally, my time here has decreased for the same reasons as clockwork's.
there was a flood of new people, which can be GOOD for a place, but also a sense of division. cliques formed, people were nasty far too often, and WAY too many people (IMHO) forgot that there are HUMANS on the other end of the computer lines.

to some (especially those that grew up in the internet era) i suppose its just a game, but for me its a place to talk broncos and hopefully make some friends. REAL friends.
that goal has been accomplished, and im thankful for it.
ive met alot of great people 'cause of this board and meck's tailgates (i remember when we just hung out on the tailgate of his old truck!!) and while i still hope to meet more of you, it did become.....well, unfriendly at times, so i disappeared for long periods of time, especially in the offseason.

heck, i didnt even KNOW there had been a falling out with slap, shack, tred, etc.

the season is almost here, and to the many friends i have here, i look forward to seeing you all more often again.
to the people i dont know, i hope we'll get a chance to hang out this season.
all the best to everyone,

I Love the Broncos, have been a favorite team of Mine when they beat the Packers and ended the NFC dominance.

Life just gets in the way in the offseason. Plus, I like to step back, watch a ton of shortened games I tape from Superfan replays, and just not listen to anyone else's opinon for awhile. I try to trust my eyes and watch a ton of football to see what happens differently each year.

I'll be back more now that TC's have actually started. Not as much, but today has been real fun BECAUSE I have not posted in awhile....

I'm going to set my watch for November, and if the Broncos are in a scrappy, borderline season, were sure to have another one of these threads. !Booya!

Some people are really good to people that they like, but really horrible to people that they don't like. The guy wished death on people's families (mine included). Hell, he told me that my son needs a real man for a father. He doesn't even know me and he was making comments like that. He's a horrible guy. I'll admit that I did stoop to his level at times. I normally didn't start the fight with him, but fired back. I wasn't about to let that guy bully me around this site.

For you guys that loved him, how would you feel if he started disrespecting you? And even worse, your family? All over a difference of opinions on sports. It was all silly.

I see what you mean ... I guess I'll modify what I said: I love -Slap- the poster. I never knew -Slap- the man. He did have great taste in films, culture, he loved dogs, was smart, open-minded (except on sports) and intellectually curious on most topics, all traits which I heartily admire in any person. But he did go to some dark, dark places when he was angry. Just guessing, but maybe he or one close to him had been a victim of some crime, because most of his darkly vicious rants seemed to revolve around crimies/criminal behavior, and his perception that others excused or rationalized the crime or criminal.

I always thought I'd look him up and buy him lunch when I was in Vegas, but never got the chance. Oh well.

Holy ****! Is this a -Slap- thread or a therapy session?

Who cares what some faceless e-poster says about you or your family? I had the priveledge of similar rants from -Slap- and I thought it was a blast. I even had a good time provoking the angry bear and would love for him to come back and hear about how I should go F myself some more!

ROFL! but but ... some of us have bruised female reproductive organs, Rev!

Part of the problem with -Slap- was, he was such a good sports poster, that he was rightly paid attention to and generally respected, at least on sports. When somebody whose posts mean something gets near-psycho hostile, it hits much harder. Any one of a hundred fair-weather or newbie posters could have vomited up similar angry dark rants, but the reaction would have been ho-hum.

When -Slap- spoke though, people listened.

He knew sports history, but that about sums it up.

Slaps process to decide on whether he liked a player or not:
Step 1: Find said players height/weight
Step 2: Compare said players height/weight to rest of league at said position
Step 3: If said player is in top 20%, move to "Like" category. If said player is not, continually bash them and anyone who has different opinion with incendiary personal attacks.

Don't get me wrong. I loved every second. But a bull****ter is still a bull****er.

Rev, I guess you're different from me. I can take jabs that are all in fun. We all like to have a good time with each other. But he meant what he said. I don't take person attacks lightly. If I had ever met him and he said that stuff to my face we would have been fighting. You don't say that type of stuff about people, even if it is on a message board.

:giggle: Yeah I've never met someone who hated small players as much as Slap, and I'm not just talking Ian Gold. He hated the Royal pick for the same reason...didn't like Stokely coming here either.

His bias towards large players aside, he was right about a lot of things too.

I got into it with Slap on a number of occasions. I think with him it would be hard for someone not to get into it with him. He never wished for death on my family but he told me to "take that Corinthian leather and cram it up your ass!" It was one of the funniest things he's ever said to me.

Slap the man? Nobody knew him. As far as I'm concerned he was an internet personality that nobody really knew. Never understood that. Most active Broncos fans here cross paths with people. He never seemed to. Not sure what he was hiding. Maybe it's better he never showed up at the tailgates. Dead Broncos fans laying around wouldn't be a good thing.

I always told him life was too short to be a pissed off bitter person but that's just the way he is I guess. He did admit to me once he was jealous of the fun/tailgates people had. Despite our differences I invited him out more than once but I guess meeting people in real life just isn't his thing.

Oh if I end up dead from a pipe to the head someone please remember this post and tell the authorities. Ha!

I always got along with Jim (Slappy) though the years. We played fantasy baseball and football and we were regulars on the RMN BB for years. I never knew him as a beligerent sort of person but he always defended his side of the story. I liked Slappy alot and respected him.

He and I got along very well until right before he left, I dinged him pretty hard for wanting to draft a guard (that was when Myers and Kuper were still guards), I said he must be "high." He came back with "look who's talking, weren't you a drug abuser in the past?" Good zinger I guess, but it kinda hurt ...

Strange as it may seem, I really do regret that was my last interaction with the guy. We had some pretty good rep and PM swaps.

He got his A$$ kicked by some 5 foot 5 inch guy. Attacking family is uncalled for and I dont give a rat's a$$ if he came back. His fuse was short and no loss if he doesnt come back. I respected him too. He really suffered when Bronco died and my heart went out to him. A man whose dog means that much to him has some deep feelings and to me is a good guy. Maybe that was the problem, you have to earn respect and when you show disrespect you get the same in return. And he was very good at returning it. I particularly enjoyed his Llama bashes. Llama deserved every bit of what he got.

Jason is very cool ... usually. But he does have his moments. For example, did you see he and Popps going toe to toe for 15 rounds (three pages) about a month ago? VERY interesting.

LOL

I'll admit that one is pretty funny, even though I'm not a model. ;D

But I will say that I didn't start that one. I normally avoid any interaction with him just because I don't really feel like going through that BS. But I will fire back when fired upon first. That's pretty much how Slap and I would get into it. He'd say something disrespectful about me, and then it would be on. I'm just not one to "turn the other cheek".

I never understood it either. The first time we got into it, which was years ago, I called him out for bashing me instead of my point, in what ever argument we were debating. I have no problem with people disagreeing with me. I like a good debate and I can respect people's opinions. But he stopped arguing the point and started attacking me. I called him out on that and he got pissed and just kept attacking me. I attacked him back and we were enemies from that point on. He couldn't debate with me without attacking me. So it would be a fight every time we interacted, so I just avoided him for the most part.

I was also told, and it could be rumor, so please don't think of it as truth. That this poster was also having an affair with a married woman that posts here. To me, and you folks might disagree, there are few things lower than individuals that engages in that behavior. It really speaks to the core of their being. but again I cannot stress enough that this could be rumor and I also heard it at least at second hand.
