GENEVA - The United States said on Saturday after inconclusive international talks with Iran's nuclear envoy that Tehran must choose between cooperation or confrontation and give up sensitive nuclear work.

"We hope the Iranian people understand that their leaders need to make a choice between cooperation, which would bring benefits to all, and confrontation, which can only lead to further isolation," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said in a statement after the talks.

Saturday's talks were the first to include the United States.

Seriously though it's looking more and more like it won't happen IMO. Iran will make some opening known that they don't want war and are willing to talk. Bush will stick his little toe in just a tad and warm things up but Iran won't fully agree until he's gone.

The new President IMO will get an agreement from Iran very soon into his first year in office. Iran will agree to halt enrichment and they will get there fuel from Russia. Of course all the while they probably will build a bomb.

I actually know a former helicopter pilot that is trying to talk me into going helicopter mechanic school. I'm just not very mechanically inclined though.

For sure if I went in as a volunteer it would be into the music program. Every branch has some killer bands and you get promotions pretty quick.

I actually almost did that out of H.S but I guess I was a pussy. LOL.

I do try and do things to help. Mostly by giving money which isn't really that tough but also by giving some time. The other night at Fritz 2 I bought 2 pitchers of beer and a round of lap dances for 4 marines. They thought I was the coolest ****ing dude on the ****ing earth.

no way there is a ground war in Iran. I would say that has 0% chance.

Iran has never invaded anyone and in the end will play ball with the nuclear stuff. Iran saw how far N Korea got away with going so they aren't worried IMO. They will hold out for a really good deal and the next President.

Someone really needs to tell the State Dept. we don't talk to evil. After all, that's why we can't vote for the evil Obama; he'd talk to terrorists (and if you don't believe it just ask John "we have to talk to Hamas because they're the government" McCain. ) At what point are we reduced to "screw it, we just wanna be in charge"?

What's really sad is they all seem to believe their own garbage, and that goes for more than politics....

Yes there are plenty of Hueys in Iraq...flown by the Marines and Navy...but the Army phased out their Hueys in the 90's, along with the AH-1 Cobra. They were replaced by the Blackhawks and Apaches. Any Hueys the Army still has are reserve/training fleet.

Edit: Looks like I was incorrect. The Army didn't completely phase out the Huey until 2004.

That's not what this article says.

The Army continues to use Hueys to fly training missions at Fort Rucker, Ala.; transport Pentagon officials in and around metropolitan Washington, D.C., and conduct multi-national observer operations in Egypt’s Sinai Desert.

They were going to phase them out in 04 but couldn't because they didn't and don't have the replacements.

And also this from your article...
US Helicopter installs Huey II kits on existing UH-1 frames, and it upgrades UH-1s for customers who opt not to buy the kits. Customers can choose from a wide variety of optional add-ons, such as armor decking, upgraded avionics, cargo hooks, rescue hoists, fire-fighting buckets, extended-range fuel tanks and floats.

In all, over the past decade, the firm has upgraded 460 helicopters for the Army; National Guard; federal, state and local agencies, and 19 foreign countries. The leading foreign customer has been Colombia, which at last count had acquired 82 Hueys for use in its long campaign against drug smugglers and rebels. Other Hueys have gone to such countries as Jordan, Greece and Thailand.

“Five Huey IIs currently are flying in Pakistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom,” Fitzgerald said. When President Bush visited the Philippines in October, he promised to provide that country with 20 refurbished Hueys.

They are not being used in front line combat missions (like they were in Vietnam) which is what I was initially referring to. I still can't find any source that says the Hueys are being used in Iraq.

No, but if you did become a pilot, and if you did have the experience of actually dropping bombs and killing large numbers of people, then you might have a slightly different perspective, i.e., might not be such a rah-rah armchair cheerleader for pre-emptive war.

Like I said, if we re-instate the draft and chickenhawks like you are vulnerable, this thing is over so fast it makes your head spin.

Hey...I've actually SEEN a black helicopter. No lie. I mean the "conspiracy" ones too. It was before the first election (I think, i was working at Hershey then) - and Bush/Cheney campaign was going to be at the hershey stadium (outdoor venue)...

So i'm out smoking a cig and it's sorta late (i'm working the 4-12 shift - at the corporate office building - right near the state police barracks) - and i keep hearing this helicopter - but i can't find the damn thing. So i just figure somehow the sound is being bounced around and i'm hearing it. About i dunno 20min or so this helicopter flies up from down the hill in front of me (over looking the stadium) and flies up and over the building. No real lights, and it was "quiet" (for a helicopter).

Was sort of freaky.

Indeed, and some more attached IIRC. I remember my dad telling me how the last thing he did before he joined the Navy was go get his security clearance so they could put him to work on Sidewinders. That was in the mid-fifties, so how much service have we gotten from those things? He also told me when they did war games with the Air Farce, after it was over they had to report their position because they never let a fighter within 200 miles of that carrier. Go Navy! (And why isn't there a Mile High Salute smiley? What's WRONG with you people? :P)
