D-backs sign top draft pick Schlereth (Stink-lite)

PHOENIX (AP) -The Arizona Diamondbacks signed left-hander Daniel Schlereth, the team's No. 1 draft pick.

The team said Thursday that the 22-year-old former University of Arizona star will join Missoula, its Single-A team in the Pioneer League.

Schlereth's father, Mark, played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos. He currently is an NFL analyst for ESPN.

Schlereth was picked by Oakland in the eighth round of last year's draft but returned to school.

The D-backs made him this year's 26th overall pick.

God, I actually played against him in a little league game about 9-10 years ago.
He could definitely throw the ball back then. I don't remember if I faced him on the mound though. I think I may have had a sac bunt against him.

I also played against Terry Shumpert's kid. He was extremely cocky and arrogant, which made me dislike him. Mark's kid was pretty cool and nothing too bad like him. Against Shumpert's kid I grounded out to 2nd, swung at an inside fastball.

Schlereth and Tom Jackson are two of the best ESiN has. Wonder where Johnny 2 is headed.

Don't count on it .... he never hangs anywhere long. Almost the Larry Brown of football.
