I'd say he has an impact on every Americans life whether you know/knew who he is/was or not. One of the people that can remind you regardless of his profession as a comedian that we have certain rights that are being suspended and wonder if there truly is a significant reason, and a wonderful touch to make you laugh at yourself and society all around us.
His memory should be placed on a pedestal, and kept there for all to see.

Absolutely true ... his full frontal humor assault on Bushco starting in 2006 came at just the right time. For me, anyway ... perfect tone and content. 71 is too young. Nowadays that should not be considered that old ... he did go through another rehab last summer, though.

I'll admit I wasn't the biggest Carlin fan out there, I enjoyed him in small doses at a time, but the loss is major. There just aren't many out there, comedians or otherwise, that are travelling in the territory he delt in....and we need those types now more than ever. Far too many are apathetic sheep nowadays.

It's funny how sadly true this is. I don't think people don't care, I just think they are affraid to admit it. It is safer to back a sean hannity status quo speech than take a deep breath and realize that the america we love was sold out a long time ago.

Drugs and alcohol had nothing to do with his death. It's his history with heart attacks that did him in. Anyway, point taken.

He's with Joe Pesci now.
ROFL!
That probably takes some explanation:
In his stand-up routine 'There is no God', George Carlin states that, although he worships the Sun, he prays to Joe Pesci, for two reasons:
"First of all, I think he is a good actor: to me, that counts. Second, he looks like a guy who can get things done. Joe Pesci doesn't **** around. In fact, Joe Pesci can manage a couple of things God was having trouble with. For years I asked God to do something about my noisy neighbour with his barking dog, and then Joe Pesci came and straightened that ********** up in one visit. It's amazing what you can accomplish with a simple baseball bat."
70 isn't young, but he sure wasn't old. He was still very active and still damned funny.
How sad. He's an obvious 1st ballot comedy hall of famer.
Very smart guy too..

I saw him on Glenn Beck last year, he may have been hostile toward issues of faith, but thought he was fair, listened and was not a hostile person --
One could tell by listening to him that he was a keen observer of people, and wasnt afraid to speak what he believed to be true...

I watched him live in vegas once. The title of his act was "I love it when a lot of people die" This was in July 2001. I was interested to see if he stuck to his guns when he did his HBO Comedy special based on the Act I watched. However he did change about half of his material and all of the title material post 911.
I walked out of the theatre feeling very bad for him. He seemed hopeless and empty the antithesis of my god fearing elders I have known of the same age.
I hope he found the truth before the end.

I don't think so.
Watch him in the 70s, then watch him in the 80s, then watch him in the 90s then watch him in the 2000s and tell me he wasnt a sad, bitter, cynical old man.
Carlin was great in the 70s. Since then he has been irrelevant and cynical to a degree that he was no longer a comic genius, but a deflated man with little to no happiness in his life.
Rest In Peace, the very term, was offensive to Carlin and everyone who wished this on him just spit on his atheistic grave.
I hope God gives him a reprieve from his blasphemy. I dont wish Hell on anyone but that my friend, is where Carlin is headed. Or, if Im wrong he is worm food and his life meant nothing anyway. I cannot say much that is good about Carlin except that in the 70s, his 7 dirty words is one of the funniest bits Ive ever heard. Since then, nothing.
More over the fact that he lambasted anyone and everyone who believed differently than he did, made him a bigot. This was not a great man, he wasnt even a great comic. He was just a bitter man who lived a meaningless life and his death is even more meaningless.

That's because Carlin didn't believe in anything. He didn't believe in God, government or any institutions. I think deep down he must have been a hopeless, sad person.
He was a thinker. If you weren't careful you would catch him out of character and he would throw you a wink and smile. His rage was his way of forcing us out of our comfort zone and to get us asking questions like he did. There was always a grain of truth to everything he said and most of the times in this lifetime that is all you will ever get.
Rest in peace Brother George.

Incorrect. Carlin believed in what he called "a higher order." He jokinly refered to it as "The Big Electron" in this very funny bit.
I watched that whole thing and it pretty much made my point. He basically says that we have no existence and we're nothing more than, his words, "a failed mutation". I love his dig on environmentalists and he was one of the brightest to come around. However he clearly took a bleak view to humanity. A passing species that showed up to create plastic so the earth could destroy us again. He tries to make it sound somewhat romantic, but the overall hopeless world-view is pretty obvious in that bit. There was nothing there that showed he had hope in anything at all. Just an understanding that cosmically we are meaningless.
Anyway, thanks for the laughs Carlin.

Cynics regarded everybody as equally corrupt... Idealists regarded everybody as equally corrupt, except themselves.

George Carlin's Views on Aging
Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.
'How old are you?' 'I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.
You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.
'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life ! You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony. YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!
But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?
You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.
But! wait!! ! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!
So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and make it to 60.
You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!
You get into ! your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST 92.'
Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!'
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!
Life's journey is not to
arrive at the grave safely
in a well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways,
totally worn out, shouting
'...holy sh*t ...what a ride!'

why is your opinion ok but other peoples aren't. Message boards purpose is for people to give there opinions. To say give opinions but only the ones I want to hear is censorship. Why would you be against letting the marketplace of ideas sort through peoples opinions?
:stupid:
Screw your opinion - how about a little respect for the dead?
Did it ever occur to you that this thread might not be the most appropriate forum for your opinion in this instance?
People are here to pay their respects and to mourn the loss of a man they appreciated and loved.
Would you barge in on a funeral and start talking sh*t about the deceased in front of the family and the mourners?
(Never mind - don't answer that.) :oyvey:

I'm not to big on opinions , but i'll play along ..... if you need to be told WTF is wrong with just being a @$$hole to get a hard on like you and Alec do then you are dumber then a thought ... and seems to be you and alec's MO to just go into any thread no matter the seriousness of the topic or not and just $hit on people ... Good to see some passion...
I think that when anyone passes on, that those who disliked their stance on things, should show more respect than they are used to displaying. I differ from George C on many issues, but in death at least hopefully we can see the greatness in anyone (minus Ted Bundy/Hitler.) Its just a matter of displaying class.
I remember when Gordon B. Hinkley died, and some felt it was ok to bash him when they may have known little or nothing about what kind of life he lived.) Its a free country, people can bash anyone they want, but as Bronco fans (not Raider fans) I say we give props where one can, if if you cant think of anything positive -- I think they should show respect by finding another topic on which to post.
