Heres a game I set up..lets see how everyone can do.
http://www.investopedia.com/

Game name: OM Trading
Password : Elway

Start with $100K
Start Date : 6/16/08
End Date :10/16/08

Everything is on the table..options, short, margin, etc.
They do have a diversification rule so you cant blow anymore than 10% on one trade to make it more realistic.

Keeps telling me that the Game ID must be numbers only. It would really help if you gave a link to the actual game login rather than just the site homepage. It's kind of hard to find where w are supposed to go.

So, are there any rules as far as how much you can leave in cash? A lot of people still haven't entered any picks. I think we should have to have at least 1/4th of our cash invested at all times... for the game-purposes.

Any thoughts?

I think if someone can't beat the cash-money market interest (especially if I end up losing big, lol), that it will make a great statement.

By the way, that's bull**** that they wouldn't let me put limit prices on my ****ing call options.

Oh well.

Yes and no.

In the real world, certainly there are times to sit on the sidelines and stay cash-heavy.

For the sake of this game, the point (I'd assume) is to try to trade around the market we have.... making the best of the ups/downs. It's considerably more difficult to trade in this market than it was last year at this time.

So, I'm not sure how we institute it, but I do think there should be some sort of minimum investment amount (or maximum cash amount). Just seems more fun that way.

We could do that, or make a minimum trade requirement. (i.e. you need to have x amount of trades for the game) right now I have no open positions as I go back and regroup. I would say for the sake of the game, you should have say $20K in some security at all times.

Or buy anything Brazil. I was long on pbr a couple of weeks ago and then I chickened out when there was a slight decline. Now it looks to be back up. Seems like 3 times a week those guys are finding oil off the coast of Brazil.

That and the agriculture stocks. Those things have been raging for a while now.

the problem with ag stocks for games is that they are so expensive its hard to leverage your $$$ when you can only buy a few hundred shares, and you lock down all your leverage..Im looking for something crazy..bond insurance, and airlines have been killing it in another game Ive been at work..in the real world Ive been in and out of oil puts.

I bought Agrium because I thought agriculture stocks were the trend...but it took a s*** and so I am dumping it and switching gears to buy Diamond Offshore. Anything offshore or energy related...is the ticket.

Thing with airlines is they've been slammed so hard, I want to short them, but don't have the balls to. Especially tomorrow when the weekly oil numbers come out. Less oil = bullish on oil companies = bearish on airlines.

With the agriculture stocks, they have been raging so hard, it is almost inevitable that they will take a dump soon. I still have my IPI that's been doing well for me though.

I took one short position in AMR for the game's sake, but agree that it's pretty nutty betting either way on anything oil-related right now. I keep trying to build up the courage to go long USO calls when it dips... and can just never do it. Missing a nice run-up, but there are plenty of hot commodities still running.

The only thing I'd disagree about on the Ag stocks is that they may be a momentum bubble, but even if it pops, it's going to re-group and come right back up. Most of these companies trade at fair PEs and the global demand for prepared food is off the charts. There was a big article on BBC.com about fertilizer shortages in India right now. The demand for these products just won't let up.

I agree they may dip, but it's a buying opp when they do. This ain't no tech bubble!

Shaun514,

You my friend, got huge balls. Buying Fannie and Freddie today wasn't only contrarian, but almost completely ludicrous... Still hanging in there in second place though. I just covered all my shorts today. Financials look to be bouncing heading into Monday.
