Name your surprise player(s) that will make the roster this year and explain why. We always expect the bigger named guys before the camps to make the team, but I was wondering who you think will make the team that isn't very big.

Well making the team wont really be an issue. However I think Eddie Royal will be a huge suprise and win us at least 2 games this season.

I am going to say Hillis simply because as a 7th rounder nobody outside of the Mane has any idea how good he can be or how he is going to greatly improve our between the tackles running game and help getting tough yards. Also he will be a valuable weapon in the red zone and at the goal line. He will be providing a good lead blocker and really good hands out of the backfield.
He gives us that FB that can catch 50 a year for around 6TD's and will be a great checkdown for Jay.
He has the talent to become an underappreciated but very valuable member of our offense for years to come

Surprise player.

Josh Barrett. I agree with Woodyard=ST demon, and Hillis improves the FB position, and that Royal is going to do some special things this year(on a side note, I love our draft class. That all have a good head on their shoulders, and we are only getting positive things coming out about them). I think that if Barrett makes the team, he is a complete stud and our future star safety.

Cullen Finnerty as #3 QB and Lorne Sam at WR....Those are somewhat very small limbs to go out on. I do agree if neither make it, that Barrett, Woodyard and Hillis make it.

Eddie Royal.

I'll say Eddie Royal but we want him to succeed so it wouldn't be much a surprise if he does well,so my "Surprise player" will be John Engelberger I think he's do for a big year the man pay his dues so he deserve a break out year :)

Playing with his brother is going to do wonders for his play. Ever play football with your brother? You just have to show up or be embarrassed.

I hope you're right, but he's the guy I picked to get cut. We really, really need him to step it up. How awesome would it be if him and Woodyard took over as starters by the beginning of '09?

Anthony Alridge, he gets on the field and produces by game six.

Anyway, I like Larson.

Since alot of other posters here are on the Woodyard bandwagon (I think he'll be a tackling machine too) I'll go with Spencer Larson as a surprise player. He too is a tackling monster and he'll probably make his presence known on STs, and then nicely transition to LB.

We haven't been good about touchbacks or kick coverage lately. If he hits at least 75-80% of his field goals, and can consistently kick off into the end zone, it will be a big deal for the success of our defense.

too many players to choose from for an effective poll...

"other" will run away with it because we don't have the other 40 possible players to choose from...
