Ok, i know it a year away, but it is a slow time of year for Broncos news, and with the Rockies sucking ass once again, and the hockey season over and with no basketball tonite, i decided to check on other peoples opinion on what our draft might look like next season.

I am not really sure on names of next years crop of NFL draftees, so i will just go with positions i think will be addressed.

Honestly i am thinking the secondary is improved, and Safety is no longer a need. QB obviously is fine, although a backup might be needed if a deal can't be made with our current backup. WR looks to be a strength especially if Marshall returns from injury.

I think the lines on both the offensive and defensive side have been upgraded and been given a shot of youth, so if our draft picks in recent years pan out our lines should be fine.

I am most worried about TE(Scheffler's injuries might have us taking a TE early next season) LB(if DJ leaves in FAthen all we have is Niko and Boss and hopefully Larsen can be a good one for us) and RB(when will shanny realize that late round projects, unwanted UDFA out of college, and small runners don't make for a dominant running game?)

so i am thinking a LB in the 1st, RB in the 2nd, and a TE in the 3rd unless Scheffler is injury free, then more than likely a DB because our starters are getting up there in years and Foxworth is probably gone along with Paymah.

the rest of the draft will be filled with late round lineman, and guys for special teams.

that is my opinion what does anyone think

Nice breakdown. I definitely think Denver spends up to a 3rd round pick on PK Sam Swank from Wake Forest next year. He is the answer to our Elam void.

I'm in no hurry.

Odds are it'll take Carl that long just to sign all the picks from this year...

It depends on how guys progress.
DL could become a drastic need if Crowder, Thomas and Moss prove to be nothing.
OL could become a drastic need if Nalen and Hamilton retire and the rest suck.

Personally, right now, we need a young safety. That and LB is what I'll say the Broncos need if guys progress.

Amazing how close (outside QB) the Chiefs and Donks are when it comes to need...

I got two words for you, Mike Oher. We won't draft him, (unless soemthing happens to #1 this year) but some one is getting a bad ass left tackle.

What kept him out this past year?

I thought he'd declared (clearly, I was wrong.)

He promised his father he'd graduate. Read the book "the blind side" it will make sense. He's an interesting guy, with a great story.

There's supposed to be some fantastic nose tackles coming out next year's draft class.

The Chiefs need to become a relevant franchise before they can be considered close to the Broncos in anything.

It is really hard to say until we see how the player work out this yr. WR could become a mess. DL might not work. OL might need more work. LB might be in need. Or they might turnout to work quite well. Until we see them play it is hard to say.

As to your comments on RB, that is the only area I'm in disagreement. Denver has had very decent RBs (and has invested in them in the 2nd round twice since TD and brought in an idiot FA). They have performed well, and were doing quite well last yr. Their lack of scoring has nothing to do with the RBs and everything to do with the line, and the lack of confidence of using Cutler in the RZ. I bet you all those things change this yr (especially the Cutler aspect). Will they dominate in the RZ? If the OL works yes, if not, they will at least be decent because Cutler's improvement and the lines improvement over last yr should at least bring their RZ scoring into the top half of the league (if not top 10).

He's only 32, but it's never too early to start shopping.

I think you rank the best centers and consider the best one available in the second round a lock. I'm not sure we can keep piecing together nalen from scraps of humans we got lying around.

I disagree with that. Since TD the only RB we had that was worth anything was Portis and since he was traded we have had scrubs working in a system that makes them look 10 times better than they actually are.

The point i am trying to make is, even though they can rack up yardage(hell anyone of us on this website can run the ball in Denver and still hit 1000 yards by the end of the season.) yardage means nothing unless you can score. and the line is good enough to work in the red zone it is just Shanny has been using small speedy guys who can't take a hit in the red zone.

if shannahan would get a powerful RB who can punish teams all game then our running game would greatly improve.

Think about this. in 98 when TD ran for 2000 yards he was stopped behind the line for a loss on like 5 times all year, and he had close to 400 carries. Young, and Henry and any other RB we have had since Portis were stopped for loss 5 times a game recently.

It has a little bit to do with the line, but it has a lot more to do with the runner. dominant runners don't stop when they get hit.

LT, AP, LJ, MJD, all those guys never go down on the first hit. LT and AP have decent lines but the point is when they get hit they bounce off the hit and keep running, our RB's the past few years get hit and drop

A developed Barret with Taylor Mays, then our safety position will be set.

next years draft looks so to be pretty deep alot of guys stayed in college and some juniors will be declairing early.

Looking ahead, I still want more help on the O & D lines. Yes, everyone is sure that they'll be great this year, but if Nalen and Hamilton go down we're looking pretty short on depth. Even if Nalen doesn't go down, he will likely retire this year.

Going out on a limb and making a bold prediction, I think something will happen and there is a good chance we will take a CB. I know its not a need right now, but at this point my guess is as good as anyones with all the variables.

Dan Graham does have the ability to be more of a pass catching threat if he wasn't required to stay in and block every down. Yes, he missed a big play or two but I have faith in his ability.

Besides, we still have Nate "Action" Jackson :strong:

Oh get over yourself. Somebody tries to engage in a pleasant conversation and you have to pull your head out of your ass and say something. What a shame.

Marlon Lucky. The guy is money out of the back field. I would like to see him get tougher running inside though. I doubt he is projected that high right now but if he can have another year like last year 1000 yard rushing 9 rushing tds and 75 catches out of the backfield he might be worth a 3rd or 4th round pick.

We need to see how this years team plays before we know what we really need. If I had to guess, I'd say safety will be a major concern after this year.

The simple answer is we go defense all day one, after using our first three picks on offense in 08. The Dline, LBs and secondary will be ripe for some high round rookie challengers after a season with the journeymen free agents we just picked up. They are stop gap guys that may stick a few seasons, and they need to be challenged.

Honestly I would take either safety from USC or their middle linebacker hell they have a big body tackle that I would love. I feel like Niko is the key to next years draft. if he works out than I could see S or DL if not you have to assume MLB would be our first round choice. I could also imagine another CB will be chosen early but I also have to say I would love Beanie Wells in our back field as the RB with Selvin being our 3rd down specialist.
