Just thought I would post somme of the notes from "Team Camp" days 1 and 2. From Denverbroncos.com.
Here are my highlights:
From Monday:
ROOKIE CATCHING ON
Now entering his third week of minicamps in the NFL, rookie wide receiver Eddie Royal continues to impress. He has drawn the praise of his coaches, fellow wide receivers and his quarterback. He appears to be building some chemistry with quarterback Jay Cutler, as Cutler targeted Royal on three consecutive plays in seven-on-seven drills Monday. He snared one pass toeing the sideline while falling down.
"It feels good to know that the quarterbacks trust me like that," Royal said. "We have a great group of receivers out here working hard, pushing one another, making sure we catch every ball."
With quarterback camp under his belt, things are coming easier for the former Virginia Tech Hokie. He has begun to grasp the playbook, and he feels things are coming along nicely.
"It’s going good right now. We’re going back to the stuff we put in on Day 1, so it all sounds familiar, and I’m able to run the routes a lot faster and be a lot crisper coming out of my breaks," said Royal. "I felt comfortable today."
But the team did not make Royal their second-round pick just for his skills as a receiver. He also stood out on special teams in college, setting an ACC record for punt return yards with 1,296. He practiced catching punts as well Monday, fielding each one cleanly.
"It’s something I’m comfortable doing, so it really comes naturally," said the 5-foot-10, 184-pound receiver. "I know I have a great group of guys in front of me blocking. It was good."
From Tuesday:
OBSERVATIONS
- Tuesday's practice seemed to belong to the defense. In the various 7-on-7 drills throughout the afternoon, safety John Lynch intercepted two passes, linebacker D.J. Williams grabbed a tipped ball and fellow 'backer Boss Bailey made up for a near-interception earlier in the practice by notching one of his own. The defense on the sideline didn't mind letting the offense know who was winning.
- Not to be outdone, later in practice offensive lineman Erik Pears turned a broken play into a gain by snatching a tipped ball out of mid-air and running a few yards before being pushed out of bounds. That got the offense and defense riled up -- cheers of "I see you, Big E!" could be heard from both sides.
- Wide receiver/kick returner Glenn Martinez saw quite a few balls thrown his way, as he grabbed several passes in traffic and reached out for a long catch over his left shoulder during a drill that drew cheers from the rest of the receivers.
- Marlon McCree got a few snaps with the first team, occasionally switching out with fellow safety Lynch. McCree was spotted wearing a No. 20 jersey, made available by the release of running back Travis Henry. McCree also wore No. 20 with the San Deigo Chargers. Running back Michael Pittman switched to No. 28, McCree's previous number.
