Its painfully obvious that the people are gonna get ****ed either way. If by miracle McKennedy picks a running mate I like, I might think about voting for him, then hope something happens to make the VP president. He'll pick some chump though and force me to write in my vote, which in turn is a vote for Obama.
Oh well. Nothing I can do, except try to take care of me while this country goes further into the shltter. Won't matter anyway though. The dems are gonna have such a huge advantage in the House and Senate that they will have all the power no matter who is president.

That's not why Republicans lost these last elections. It has nothing to do with the stupid swift boat veterans. I don't really see a difference between them and the way people come after Bush's service for his country either. Both were completely irrelevant to what was going on and good example of what's wrong with the national dialogue in this country in elections.
Bush pissed off the left with the war and pissed off the right by creating a bunch of bloated government programs and then not creating a way to pay for any of it. That's why Republicans will lose for awhile. They claim to be the party that doesn't spend and has fiscal responsibility. They showed they were the opposite in both cases and now Americans don't trust them. That's what you get when let a neocon in office.
However I do tip my hat to your laying off McCain for his service. I won't knock him for any of that. There's enough of the other stuff where I don't have to. :)

Consumer Watchdog's recommendations include:
White House action to sell some of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which contains the highest-demand oil known as light, sweet crude.
Closing the Enron Loophole in commodity trading regulation. A regulatory measure in the federal farm bill (S.2058 by Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Carl Levin) would help stop speculative oil pricing. The huge omnibus bill was returned to Congress to fix an error in the version that President Bush vetoed last month. Now the repaired bill has to be passed by the House and Senate again, Bush has vowed to veto it again, and then the House and Senate must override the veto, wasting yet more time.

I'm not fully up to speed on the shale thing, I admit, but aren't we a ways away from actually being able to extract and/or refine it in a cost-effective manner?
I have no problem with pursuing it as long as the environmental risks don't outstrip the benefits and as long as the net energy equation balances out in the end.

Anyway, if Bush really wants to provide some sort of economic "stimulus" then instead of sending out a bunch of checks that are going to be spent largely on imported goods, why doesn't he support a bill to end speculative oil pricing?
Roughly 1/3 of the price of a barrel of oil is determined by speculative pricing - not supply and demand issues.
I think lowering the price of oil by 1/3 would yield a lot more mileage than a bunch of one-shot stimulus checks, don't you?
well if Dan Quayle is an idiot for not being able to spell potatoe, then what is a guy who can't remember that there are 50 states in this country?
Just as a heads up, there are 56 U.S. states and territories that all have separate elections.
So who's more right, someone who ignores American Samoa, Guam, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Marianas, and Washington DC, or someone who included them and happened to be one digit off (maybe he really cares about the 200 people who live on Wake Island)?
They all matter, thankfully an island boy like Obama understands just how biased this nation is in favor of its contiguous states.
And I find it pretty hard to take any stance seriously that tries to portray a guy who was a top student in Harvard's legal program (without the benefit of legacy), and then went on to teach at another premier law school, University of Chicago Law, where he was offered full professorships several times.
He's a more intelligent person than 90% of this country. At the same time he's a hell of a lot more motivated, and his education focuses on the legal rights of Americans, unlike many other recent political officials we've had who consider those more an obstacle to be overcome.

These aren't proven reserves they are unproven reserves (with only a 25 to 50% prospect of ever being found or developed). There currently is NO technology to squeeze oil out of shale profitably.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The amount of oil in any particular oil field involves a degree of uncertainty (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_reserves) until the last barrel of oil is produced and the last oil well is abandoned. The following estimates are the best that could be obtained using publicly available data, and the confidence in them varies greatly from country to country. Estimates in developed countries are generally much more accurate than those for undeveloped countries. For instance, reserves estimates in the United States are considered highly accurate, while those in Iraq are highly uncertain. In many countries (particularly OPEC producers) the estimates may involve a great deal of political influence. The raw data underlying reserves estimates is considered a state secret in some countries, so independent assessments of their reserves cannot be made.

These aren't proven reserves they are unproven reserves (with only a 25 to 50% prospect of ever being found or developed). There currently is NO technology to squeeze oil out of shale profitably.
Yes there is , we have been over this .... and the 1.5 trillion barrels is a fact

LOL they had no clue about how much was in Bakken until about 7 months ago ..... and that 1.5 trillion is there....... they have proven methods that works ...
I dont know why you cling to Peak oil myth , But the only problem with Shale oil is it is a lower grade of Oil , but the 1.5 trillion barrels is there , and they can extract it from the ground for 12.00 a Barrel ......

And the Bakken formation has been known for decades.
The Bakken Formation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakken_Formation), initially described by geologist J.W. Nordquist in 1953,[1] is a rock unit from the Late Devonian to Early Mississippian age occupying a substantial part of the subsurface of the Williston Basin, in Montana, North Dakota, and Saskatchewan.
It is estimated that there is are significant reservoirs of oil shale beneath the Bakken's 200,000 square miles (520,000 km˛). There were first discovered in 1951, but have long frustrated efforts to extract oil. An April 2008 USGS report estimated the amount of technically recoverable in the Bakken Formation at 3.0 to 4.3 billion barrels, with a mean of 3.65 billion.[2] The state of North Dakota also released a report that month which estimated that there are 2.1 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil in the Bakken.[3]

I just posted the technical estimates for the Bakken formation in the previous post.

While these numbers would appear to indicate a massive reserve, the percentage of this oil which might be extracted using current technology is another matter. Estimates of the Bakken's technically recoverable oil have ranged from as low as 1% — because the Bakken shale has low porosity, making the oil difficult to extract — to Leigh Price's estimate of 50% recoverable.[10] Reports issued by both the USGS and the state of North Dakota in April 2008 seem to indicate the lower range of recoverable estimates are more realistic with current technology.
This is why I suggested researching the definitions of proven and unproven reserves.

And one other point, oil drilling should be moving down our list of priorities instead of up. We should be aggressively pursing alternative and renewable energy, spending hundreds of billions doing so. We could be creating whole new industries and leading the world producing these technologies and selling them to the rest of the world.

Co2 hasnt been tried up there yet ......Point is every expert thought the Salt creek field was dead ...... Anadarko went in took it over from Aamaco and Howell , and is turning a profit , I have seen the Instu plant in meeker work , and if they can get out out of those rugged Mountains , they can get it out of the Bakken patch ...... Co2 on Shale is brand new Idea , I dont know if it works or not , I havent seen it used on shale as of yet ..... But Schlumbulger J believes is will work ...... + I have been seeing alot of Sanjek trucks running around

This I would agree with , but my point is , there is no reasoning for the high oil prices .......Believe me , I would love never to fuel again , it takes me on the average 30-40 minutes to fuel ...... Thats getting the pump turned on , paying for Fuel .... That isnt including the time it takes me to get back up to highway speed ..... A typical fuel stop with out me eating can cost me an hour and a half .....

Right now I have some friends bunkered up in Baghdad because the rockets were so bad where they worked. This has been going on for a couple of weeks.
I am currently under a Red alert which means I am supposed to planted face down with my fingers interlaced protecting my head. Screw that.
I agree with the premise that if you shoot the bad guys you don't have to hide from them. I agree that the surge has worked but there would not have been any surge if they had LISTENED to Colin Powell at the beginning of this.
