RHODES OUT IN OAKLAND
Posted by Mike Florio on April 28, 2008, 5:01 p.m.
Two days after the Oakland Raiders added Darren McFadden to a crowded house at tailback, the Raiders have thinned the ranks by dumping Dominic Rhodes, according to John Clayton of ESPN.
Rhodes was signed as a free agent in 2007, not long after a DUI arrest that involved Rhodes allegedly whizzing in his own pants in the back seat of the squad car.
Other tailbacks on the roster include Justin Fargas, LaMont Jordan, Michael Bush, and Adimchinobi (gesundheit) Echemandu (gesundheit).
There were rumors that the Raiders were trying to trade Jordan and Rhodes during the 2007 season, and that owner Al Davis didn’t want to cut either of them due to concerns that they’d land in Denver.
Rhodes won a Super Bowl title with the Colts in February 2007, and arguably deserved serious consideration for the MVP award. With Kenton Keith recently arrested, it’ll be interesting to see if the Colts show interest in bringing Rhodes back.

I just love the fact that we're still in that crazy old bastard's head.
Hey Al, we sort of suck right now. That you're so concerned about us really says a lot about how much you suck!

I'd actually like to see us give Jordan a look. He runs hard and if nothing else, would love to stuff it up the raider's skirts twice a year.

He is a hard runner and a good 10 carry back, but I think Denver's roster at RB is too crowded. It's going to suck seeing Mike Bell cut. I guess he will go to Houston too.

:giggle: So, so true. He's drafted and signed guys just to try and make things harder on us - even when the draft picks and signees weren't really the best fit in Oakland.

You guys need to realise something. That comment about Al and Rhodes/Jordan (assuming it is true cos since when has Al ever had conversations like that with any journalist) originated months ago during last season when Denver were having all sorts of issues with Henry.
He didn't wanna release those guys simply because he didn't want to offer Denver a instant replacement and a way out of the predicament your team found itself in.

Maybe Al was just talking to himself in his current state of delirium brought on by dementia when a reporter walked by.

CHARGERS SIGN SHELTON
Posted by Mike Florio on April 29, 2008, 5:36 p.m.
The San Diego Chargers announced on Tuesday the acquisition of veteran tackle L.J. Shelton.
Shelton signed a two-year deal.
“We had the opportunity to add an experienced, good player to the mix at offensive tackle,” General Manager A.J. Smith said. “L.J. has played both left and right tackle during his career. We were thin at the position and we were determined to find a talented player. We believe we’ve addressed the need with L.J. Shelton.”
Shelton has 125 career starts, including every game at right tackle in 2007 for the Dolphins.
Other tackles on the Chargers’ roster include Marcus McNeill, Corey Clark, and Jeromey Clark.

I like Bell, too. Still, I'm lukewarm on Selvin Young as a starter. Henry is a total joke and Hall is unlikely to stick around, even though I love him in a change-up role. Jordan would be great to pound people with at certain times in a game. I also get the idea he could block if he had to. They loved him in NY in the right role. He's not special at all, but a high effort bruiser that would be nice to have in the lineup.
Torrian is supposed to run hard, too. So, maybe he's that guy.

The 100 post is a farce.
I know, just playing along. Didn't think this was newsworthy enough for it's own thread, but I thought Smith's quote about being "thin" at tackle was interesting. Who knew the mighty Chargers could possibly be thin anywhere...
