Ok, so I purchased Comcast's Sports Tier for the sole reason of getting NFL Network for the Draft. Yesterday and today, I've watched the draft on NFLN while Tivo'ing the Draft on ESPN. After the draft ended, I went to ESPN's coverage and skimmed through it. One word, wow. Mike Mayock's draft knowledge blew me away in comparison to Mel Kiper and Todd McShay.
"I'm going to go ahead and call it," we need to go get this guy. Hell, there's no salary cap on F.O. positions and we must've saved some money on canning Mason and the others. Hire Mike Mayock!

Mayock is nasty, and hands down the best in the business.

yeah Mayock is the reason why I watch NFLN over E!SPN. Yesterday he changed my mind in the Royal pick.
Mayock actually played in the NFL for a few years and was a two sport star at BC. I'd love to see us hire him, but short of offering a GM position it'd be hard to top the salary that I'm sure the NFL Network pays him.

I cant seem to find mayocks Final mock draft.....? It sounded like he did very well also. Does anyone have a link? I have been trying to compare and see who did the best with their mock drafts. Kiper and Gosslin both got 5 correct. NFL Draft Countdown got 6 correct.

Said he loved the pick, fills one of our needs very well, then went on to explain how awesome Royal is gonna be for us.
When I first saw the name I was like "WTF Shanny, you fckin retard, Desean is still there if your gonna take a fckin wideout." And Mayock planted the seeds of "this is an awesome pick" for me. I just initially flipped cuz I never heard of the guy, and Mayock explained what this guy was about very well.

Mayock is the best. He is also not afraid to stick to his opinion if it is against popular wisdom. I also like Mike lombardi of NFLN

I've been a fan of Mayock since before the 06 draft.... started listening to him on Sirius NFL channel. Ditto the sentiment on Mayock and NFLN TV coverage. Those without Sirius radio are missing out. Mike Mayock, Gill Brandt, Tim Ryan, Pat Kirwin, and Jim Miller are on just about every day.

90 of Mayock's top 100 were drafted in the first 100 picks

they said out of Mayocks top 100 prospects, 90 of em were taken in the first 100 picks. Eisen asked him what about the other 10? Mayock said "All I can tell you is that the NFL made 10 mistakes." LOL

Mayock called Jack Williams "one of his favorite players." Also added that people should ignore senior season when Williams had two dinged ankles. "Just stick in tape of his junior year." Williams apparently busted a 4.32 40 for his campus pro day.

Mayocks final draft. He fell off a bit after the top 10 but I'd say he wins the mock draft challenge

I love Mayock...and NFL network over ESPN. ESPN is the Madden of the draft, state the obvious with frills. NFL Network is about football and Mayocks analysis makes you stop and think.

Indeed. Mayock makes ESPN's analysts look like a complete joke.

Mayock had me sold when I was watching the combine. He was questioned by Marshall Faulk about a rating he was giving a player. Mayock stood firm like he does and looked Faulk in the eye and said. I get to watch the tape you aren't able to access. Faulk was pretty speechless.
faulk is usually speechless....but that's because he hasn't quite mastered the art of using words to make sentences.
I said it before...watching marshall faulk is like listening to my stroke-victim grandfather telling a war story.

This is hardly exclusive to draft coverage. The entire ESPN organization has really, really fallen off.

I liked he had issue with Gholston work effort and then talked about his conversion with DC about who you would wanted on 11 play of a drive that would decide the game Chris Long or Gholston

The best part about NFL Network's coverage is Mayock also shows tape of what the player does wrong. Like showing Chris Williams getting beat to the inside or Jonathan Stewart not lowering his pads to take on a safety.

only thing bad about NFL Network is Jamie Dukes.
My lord I cannot stand him. Absolute waste of air time and you can tell even Mayock hates him.

Did you catch Dukes' comment about Clady needing to start at RT for a couple seasons to get more experience before protecting Cutler at LT?
I can see his point to an extent, but this guy looks really polished considering he only has a few years of experience at LT. My biggest worry is the level of competition he faced at Boise State.

Daniel Graham will be babysitting him while he develops, so as long as Graham is healthy, his development should go as Shanny plans.
i still cant believe people bash the graham signing. This man is the 3rd OT on the field and a beast blocker.

Cutler would probably be in a wheel chair without him last year.

I don't have NFLN anymore, and I really missed it.
Totally agree that Mayock is the very best - better even than Collinsworth. Mayock hitting on the first 7 picks, plus Broncos, Bears, Cowboys and several others ... along with 90/100 ... that's just remarkable.
I too was taken aback by the low quality of ESPN's product these past two days. They're not close up to the stage like they used to be and like NFLN is - you get the feeling their broadcast desk is in the balcony or something. A few times I saw in the far, far distance behind the ESPN set, Adam Schefter talking into a mic on NFLN air. Right up next to the stage. But ESPN had nobody there. And Tony Reali in the studio, that's just bad bad bad ... and I don't wanna hear from Mike Ditka on draft matters.

I didn't mind Tom Waddle on ESPN for his views of going through the draft and saying that it's almost better for a guy to go undrafted rather than being selected in the 6th or 7th round so they can choose the team they think they can make. He did a decent job with the Bears as an UDFA converting on 3rd down with great hands and instincts.
Other than that and the NFL Network is more commercial hungry that ESPN, ESPN sucked.

I wholeheartedly agree.
This is a man who traded all of his draft choices for Ricky Marijuana Williams and hes telling me about draft strategy? This is an insult to the viewers at home
I agree that Mayock is damn good and NFLN's coverage was hands down better then ESPN's.

I'm not saying that I believe this to be true, but I'm just throwing it out there: What if the NFL fed Mayock some of the info. about who was about to get picked to improve their coverage?? I mean, they know who's getting picked as soon as their runners bring it up to the desk and there's about a 1 min delay between the pick getting turned in and announced...
I'm not saying, just sayin'....

Probably. They had the film on the players ready to go as soon as the selection was announced.
I watch the NFl channel year round and love alot of what they do. Maylock is the best in the business and makes some gutsy calls, but always backs it up with tape and great commentary. What is this ESPN you guys keep talking about ???

The funny thing is that even the NFLN's insufferable former athlete is still miles ahead of ESPN's versions, with Emmitt Smith and Keyshawn Johnson and others. Give me Faulk any day over those guys.
We can't expect everyone to be a Schlereth or Jackson. !Booya!
