I was wondering the same thing. One of the talking heads on TV said that Royal played with a sub-par QB in a rush-oriented offense, and there is some basis for at least the second part of that. VT ran the ball 560 times, vs. 379 attempted passes. But the main QB, Sean Glennon, had an efficiency rating of 137: 61% completion rate, 12 TDs, 5 INTs. On its face, that's not shabby at all. WRs Morgan and Harper combined for almost 1200 yards between them. (Morgan went to SF in the 6th round.)

But I don't watch much college football, so my question would be whether Glennon's efficiency rating was mainly the result of a powerful running game, or whether Royal was simply overshadowed by the other guys.

I see alot of Va Tech games and let me tell you the numbers lie on that one, Glennon sucks.

really what teams was interested? statements like this crack me up. To trade down it takes a team that wants to move up. No team wants to give up picks unless there is one specific player they really want. If there are 2-3-4 guys on your board still available there is no reason to trade up.

Shanny did say in his press conference that we had a ton of trade offers to move down. But I dont know what rounds they were offered at.

Royal will turn out to be a huge dissapointment, just like adrain madise, darius watts, chris cole, Domenik Hixon, Brian Clark,.....(notice a trend).....................bla bla bla...............all those guys were REALLY FAST, and were going to be GREAT RETURNERS........................

You're are great at predicting players futures.ROFL!

I know, I feel your pain. But there are still run stuffing DT's left on the board. I didn't like the pick at all until I read up on the guy a little. He'll at least replace Stokely long term, but be able to block better and return kicks. He's potentially the #2 WR to play alongside Marshall at a very high level.

Ahem.

For the people that don't like the pick, how many games do you think Stokely will play next year? Royal is no one trick pony, he has everything you look for in a WR.

Not bad.

Our special teams haven't been bad because we didn't have a returner. They've been bad because we drafted so many bad players, so often. Middle and late rounders generally contribute on special teams... and our drafts have been crap, with the potential exception of a few players recently.

One guy isn't what we're missing. Regular, quality drafts are what we're missing. Remember Hixon? He had no problem running back kicks in NY with some talent around him.

Drafting a novelty pee-wee speedster 42nd off the board is a luxury you have when you're stacked, not when your team is on the brink of having the worst defense in the league, and you can't run the ball or keep your QB protected. (I did like the Clady pick.)

Shanahan just ****s it up almost every year on draft day. That's the bottom line. I hate this pick, and while I hope the kid proves me wrong... even if he's super-productive, I'm not sure it's more help than a super-productive guard, S or LB.

YOU FAIL

I like this kid more and more. He is a rod smith type worker from what I have read. That alone makes me happy.

Yeah I know I am a draft Guru!

Denver needs a return guy. This is a draft pick that will contribute right away. Unlike what Clady will do this year. He is a better returner than Jackson so it was a logical selection.

If he helps with Denver's special teams Denver will be vastly improved.

yessir..........

maybe all these posts go to tell you, stop predicting how players are gonna do. 80% of people here are wrong 100% of the time.

This kid looks good. Anytime you have a receiver who does well on a team without a competent quarterback, I think you have some serious potential there. With the current league rules on contact, smaller wideouts that used to be ineffective are finding themselves to be serious threats, aslong as they can beat the jam.

I think the success of this selection largely hinges on whether or not Royal can develop into a #2 or at the very least a high quality #3. 10 picks outside the 1st round, you shouldn't be looking for only a return man.

But my hopes are high, he looks like a steve smith and if he can play the role of a Wes Welker on this team, then he would be more than worth teh 2nd round pick.

WOOT :)

royal was still the wrong choice! we could of got limas sweed who has 4 catches this year. or even malcom kelly and his 1 catch this year.

royal only has like 50 something catches.
damn it shanny!

on a serious note.
this offense is loaded for years.
Cutler, marshall, Royal, Scheffler, clady, harris, kuper, and hillis. All of these players are young and full of talent.

were just missing that final piece at running back.
who says shanny cant draft?? well maybe except for defense.

He can pick his LB'ers in the draft that's for sure. But then he wasn't good with WR's for a while either....and to some extent - Lelie was decent and could have been better - but he sh!t the bed - that wasn't shanny's fault - that was Lelie's.

What a kickass returner and WR! I'm in love!
