Ya Here.....

I got a little whearling sound in my hard drive after four years of hard hard travel use.I called Mac turns out my service plan had expired the day before at midnight. The supervisor said no problem next time you are in the States bring it in and we will replace that HD for ya free.

Just another reason to love Mac

Good story?
Well, Apple, with a great graphic operating system, managed to allow Microsoft to dominate the PC market worldwide with the awful DOS operating system. You have to have a dumb-ass business plan to allow that to happen. :welcome:

Don't get me started about Macs at the moment. My class (a video lab full of macs) is full of computers deciding not to allow students to print their final projects. Why? Not even our Mac guru can figure it out. I have had more problems using macs for non-linear editing than I ever had using a PC for the same job.

That's a major factor of it. I've said it before: Macs are chick computers. They're like a VW bug of computers. They have soft edges, bright colors and smell of estrogen. They are easy to use, somewhat intuitive and ridiculously overpriced and impossible to upgrade.

I don't want an expensive bubble of pastel colored cutesy. I want my computer to resemble a Borg cube: A brick of electronics and technology that looks all too incomprehensible and yet somehow in the wires and mishmash It produces a purring engine of power and ability! At a whim I can reach into the core and change out the technology to something superior. I can run all programs and interface with all electronics. Any game is at my leisure at full efficacy.

My Brother in law once found a MAC laptop in the trash (he is a garbage man), he gave it to me to see if I could get it to work. This was around 1995 no idea what model it was.

I could not find a power cord and it cost over $100 to get a new one from Apple so I put it up for sale when we had a garage sale.

I put it up for $75. Some dude came in and saw it, asked if it worked. I told him I didn't have power to see if it even worked. He pulled out the $75. I told him no returns, he gave me the $75 and left.

I hope it worked out for him. either way I split the $75 with my Brother in law and made some cash off an Apple user.

It did LOOK like a nice laptop though....

That was how I made the jump from mainframes into PC group. Had to do the same thing for early NIC drivers.

Brother... any mouse will work with a Mac. I (literally) have mice with 6 buttons for my editing work. (Trackball) The mice that ship with Macs are multi-touch, as well. Meaning, you can set it up to simply click on the left side for normal click, and the right side for right click.

Any mouse has worked with any Mac, at least since USB was invented. Right click is universal.

Well Popps I got my G3 i phone when it came out.I stood in line for about 2 hours (Can't believe I did that) and after a little learning curve i must say I LOVE THIS THING. These Mac people are geniuses.

I'm on the "old" 2G iPHone, but I love the **** out of it. It integrates into all my apps flawlessly and has been an invaluable tool for my business... which is funny because it's sold as sort of a media/fun phone. I owned two Blackberries and a Treo (and liked them all) ... but this is on another level, imo. I'm just now tapping into these apps on the creative side, too. There's a music (drum beat/midi-like) app that's pretty incredible. Tons of good games if you've got time for that kind of thing.

That said, there are issues to be worked out. Call reliability needs to improve. (Some of that may be AT&T.) SMS pic-messages has to be added. Wireless iTunes needs to happen, etc.

I get occasional freezes, but I got that on my other phones, too. I think people feel like there should NEVER be a problem with these phones because they are expensive. (Or at least they used to be.) But, they're just computers and I don't care what kind of computer it is... you get SOME level of problems. PC, Mac or Commodore 64.

I'll hold off on the 3G until they work some bugs out, and then I'll upgrade. I'm happy with my 2G and am operating under the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" motto.

The 3rd party apps are amazing. I have one called 'I Want'. This app is friken unbelievable. It lists restaurants, grocery stores, banks ETC within a (chosen by you) radius of where you are. When you choose a business a google maps comes up showing where you are and where the business you chose is located. The app then proceeds to pin point where you are and show you walking to the pinpointed desired location.

I have another app that is a very accurate level.

There is an app that you put the phone near a music source and the app will tell you the song, artist and lyrics of the song. I can't find this one but I hear it is out there. I would love to get it.

I have windows live search on my phone that does the same thing.

That's the problem with most Mac users.

They don't even try the alternative and automatically assume it couldn't do half the things their precious Mac product can do.

BTW, iTunes put spyware on my PC. Last time I download ANYTHING made by Apple.

Dare I ask ... what is expose?

It's pretty simple, but one of those things that once you have... you're eternally hooked on it.

Basically, you just set up the 4 corners of your monitor to represent something when you mouse up there. I always choose "all windows." So, when I mouse up to the far left (or right) corner... all application windows in any program that are open shrink down and appear on the screen at the same time. Then I can just click on one of them... and it comes to the forefront. It's just an extremely fast and visual way to get in and out of apps/screens.

I'm an editor, so it's invaluable to me. But, I now use it for anything. You can have several internet windows, a MS Word doc, E-mail and an editing program open... and just mouse up to the left corner to see every single app window.

It IS cool with a large monitor, but actually helps make good use of smaller ones as well.
