Eagles involved

PHILADELPHIA – With the NFL Draft around the corner, Eagles coach Andy Reid (http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080418/SPORTS/80418026/1002#) is still seeking options to continue building his team.
Jets defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson, a No. 4 overall pick in 2003, visited the NovaCare Complex recently to meet with the Eagles (http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080418/SPORTS/80418026/1002#) and take a physical, according to two league sources.
The Eagles can't comment on Robertson, who is still property of the Jets (http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080418/SPORTS/80418026/1002#) but became trade bait when New York switched to a 3-4 defensive alignment this off-season and signed Kris Jenkins to play nose tackle.
Robertson, listed by the Jets' Web site as 6-foot-1, 317 pounds, was also in conversations with at least four other teams, said one source, who couldn't confirm if the Eagles had made an offer to the Jets. The Eagles have 11 picks in the draft, which starts next Saturday, and could pick up more if they deal cornerback Lito Sheppard. The Denver Broncos (http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080418/SPORTS/80418026/1002#) are also reportedly seeking the sixth-year Jet's services.
It's unknown how Robertson would feel about competing for a starting job in Philadelphia. The Eagles already have two young first-round picks at defensive tackle (http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080418/SPORTS/80418026/1002#) in fourth-year left tackle Mike Patterson and third-year right tackle Brodrick Bunkley. A source also said Robertson's contract would have to be restructured.
Robertson, who signed a seven-year, $54 million rookie contract, is slated to make $6.8 million in 2008, with a $3 million roster bonus due in June and is reportedly costing the Jets $12 million against the cap.
In 2003, Robertson became the first Jets rookie defensive lineman (http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080418/SPORTS/80418026/1002#) to start every game since Marty Lyons in 1970. He has started 60 regular-season games and three playoff games. The former University of Kentucky standout has 14.5 career sacks and has never made a Pro Bowl.

An interesting test for the new "Goodman regime."
Let him go....
Let him go...
Give up fifth rounders or later, but no fourths.
I would actually like to land Robertson, but fourth rounders are too valuable around here.

haha that was my first thought upon seeing this thread title. Has there ever been so much hype for a mediocre prospective bronco before? I can only imagine what this place was like when the Portis / Baily deal was going down.

If anything, this gave the Jets leverage to ask for more in compensation.
I still think it will be a draft day trade.
Jets are probably fishing for anyone to field an offer at this point. Have a hard time seeing the Eagles being serious here when they haven't even given him a physical.
Also, any trade will be under the assumption that Robertson will restructure. Why exactly would he do that for the Eagles when they want to make him compete for a spot? They're notoriously tight pursed as it is, I don't see them giving much in the way of guaranteed money to a guy who's already had two other team physicals draw red flags over a bone on bone in his knee.
Robertson is going to be cut and the Jets won't get crap for him because they aren't willing to accept that his failed physical gives him even less value than the 4th and 5th Cincy had put up for him before failing their physical. Given an already contentious contract situation he just doesn't have much value at all on the trade market. They should accept that and take the 6th or 7th round pick that they can probably still squeeze out of him and move on.
Stand firm Denver. Don't raise the ante.
No better than a 5th.

seriously even if he re-structures.. and if the cap hit for jets was 11 mill.. what will the hit be for denver after they come to terms ? and is he worth it.. and i am sure they will sign him for atleast 3 yr contract, so if they find he is bad and think of cutting him after one yr how much hit will we take then ? already it has been discussed on this thread that b. marshall, tony scheff and few others will come back for contracts.. how will we pay them and the new people we select. i thought we did not have enough cash

The difficulty that arises...and that's assuming some serious talks do happen, is that Philly has 4...count 'em...four 6th round draft picks, along with two fourths...precisely the trade range offered by Denver.
If they really want to up the ante, they absolutely have the ammunition to do so.
The problem with this report is that Robertson...or more precisely, his agent, may now see the general contract parameters worked out with the Broncos as inadequate.
At this point, I'm beyond caring...as is much of the NY press who have been thrown back & forth on this thing as much as the fan bases.
If it gets done in Denvers' favor, great. If not, oh well.

I say **** or get off the pot. If Denver is going to make a move then make it. If not then spend your energy elsewhere.

Stockpile picks just draft two DT's if they flop we try again in 09 forget this move.

The Eagles never offer anything of value in trades. When we got Javon from Greenbay all Philly offered to the Packers was a 6th round pick and Hollis Thomas!

Make the damn trade already. He isn't going to miss a game this year or the next. How often are you going to find a guy that is in the top 5 in tackles year in and year out for his position this cheap?

He's young and he's better than anyone we have on our roster right now at DT. Can you say that about anyone in this draft other than Ellis and Dorsey? No. Get him.

We sent them this year's third rounder (snicker).
They sent us Robertson, some orthopedic shoes, and a signed copy of "It Takes a Village" by Hillary Rodham Clinton.
