Rick Gosselin's NFL mock draft (4/11)

01:37 PM CDT on Friday, April 11, 2008

This is the first of three Rick Gosselin mock drafts. It is based on a draft board compiled through discussions with NFL talent evaluators. This mock draft primarily adopts the best-player-available philosophy. Next weekend's mock draft will more heavily weigh team needs.

Bill Parcells loves size.

With a primary voice in his last eight NFL drafts, Parcells has used his influence to draft six defensive front seven players in eight first-round selections: linebackers Bobby Carpenter (2006) and DeMarcus Ware (2005) and defensive end Marcus Spears (2005) in Dallas, and ends Shaun Ellis (2000) and John Abraham (2000) and linebacker James Farrior (1997) with the New York Jets.

In his first draft as president of the Miami Dolphins in 2008, Parcells continues to covet size. He believes you win championships up front with your offensive and defensive lines.

Parcells has four solid options with the first overall pick of the 2008 draft: defensive ends Vernon Gholston and Chris Long, defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey and offensive tackle Jake Long.

The most glaring need on his roster is at offensive tackle, so give Jake Long to the Dolphins in the first mock draft offering from The Dallas Morning News.

Thanks, I listen to the Ticket daily and he was on yesterday with Norm but they only went over Dallas's picks of course--I would be very happy with Stewart or Mendenhall--we want to draft a skill position if we keep our pick at 12--and we want production from Day One when drafting up that high---and, as others have posted --we will then have our "Big Three" in Marshall, Cutz and Stewart/Mendenhall--we can then fortify our O-line through FA, Draft in the coming years

Isn't Gosselin the guy many say is the best draft "expert" and not Kiper? Doesn't this guy get like more than 50% of his picks correct or something crazy like that?

Even his brief statements make more sense than the rambling explanations given by many other "experts". I don't like every pick, but I could certainly see the draft going this way.

"The Long family stays in the AFC"

Great insight, thanks for putting something other than a smiley face, I guess...

I do recall this guy has the highest percentage of actual picks being correct though. He claims to find sources in the org that tell him rather than trying to assess the team... apparently he does well with it.

It just hit me the other day that the Dolphins have 2 first rounders thanks to the Pats. Lucky bastards.

He comes out with 3. His second one will be this weekend and then the last one will be the day before the draft. That's the one to watch.

Reportedly he doesn't claim to know much about the players himself, he just has extremely good inside sources.

Historically, Gosselin is the best. This is the one I wait for.

I sure hope he's wrong.

If we go with Stewart over OL or Mendenhall I would be bummed. And with the foot surgery, #12 would be way too high.
