Today a Federal Appeals court upheld an important multi-million dollar patent win for TiVo. As part of the win, Dish will have to honor an injunction to turn off most of their customers DVRs. I hope that you like commercials while you watch "The Biggest Loser" Dish customers.

sorry no refunds for those south of the border. It falls under the provision of Nolo contendre tellecumunicado refundala. And yes I know that was jibberish.
Maybe though they will knock some off your bill to make it even. Either that or just ask for some seeds and extra fresh water.

I'm having verizon fiber optic hdtv put in on the 21st, suppossed to get a dvr. Does that mean only direct tv can have it? If so then I'm also moving to mexico and starting a farm. I'm going to grow poppies instead though and work for the CIA.
Will poppies grow in ole mexico baja or will I need a special greenhouse?

That article very very misleading. According to Dish, current customers will not be affected.

Dish Network To Appeal To Supreme Court On Patent Ruling

MarketWatch Pulse
SAN FRANCISCO -- Dish Network Corp. said Friday it plans to appeal to the Supreme Court an earlier ruling by the Federal Circuit court which denied EchoStar's request for a rehearing en banc in regard to a patent infringement case filed by Tivo . "The decision, however, will have no effect on our current or future customers because EchoStar's engineers have developed and deployed 'next-generation' DVR software to our customers' DVRs. This improved software is fully operational, has been automatically downloaded to current customers, and does not infringe the Tivo patent at issue in the Federal Circuit's ruling," said Dish Network in a statement.

Man Ive been a Dish customer for 5 years, and Im pretty happy with my service, but the DVR has totally changed the way I watch TV. If they turned that off, I would have to switch to DirecTV.
Hope like hell boltaneer is right here, cuz it would be a huge pain in the ass if they had to do it. And the business they would lose would be unreal.
I called and it seems it only affects Raider and Chiefs fans

Wow, Dish's primary marketing campaign and their entire brand has been built around their DVR. That's got to be a huge blow to them.
Good for TiVo, I've always loved their products and service and while it was only a matter of time before their product was duplicated by cable/satellite companies, I'm glad to see their still surviving. I figure they'll eventually sell out to Comcast or Directv or someone else, but good for the time being.

I believe they said DISH owners are hosed, not DIRECTV - read.
One thing I did notice is now, on DIRECTV anyhow, your rented movies will auto be deleted after 24 hours. Guess they are gonna lose alot of movie rentals............lol.

So then, getting rid of DirecTV was a good idea for me after all!
Seriously ... they'll work out a deal within a few days, and the providers will pay licensing fees to TiVo.

Good for Tivo.
I hope the settlement hurts Dish Network. They should have made a deal with Tivo in the first place, paid the license fees, like Direct TV did, instead of ripping off the Tivo patent.

It won't. They might have to pay something to Tivo, but Dish will have insurance for such instances. Nothing for the consumer will change, despite the chest thumping of those here.:~ohyah!:
