Brandon Marshall
Elvis Dumervil
Toss Up
I've been thinking, we had one hell of 4th round in 2006. Brandon Marshall and Elvis Dumervil in the same draft!!!! The question which pick was better? Brandon is going to be an elite WR, if he can keep his nose clean. Elvis can take over a game on the line. Can you chose? And defend your pick.

Toss up right now. Both have positives and negatives. Need more time to really determine who was the better pick.

Marshall. If they were in this draft, we'd probably take Marshall at 12. Doom is still a situational player.

If Marshall stays out of trouble, he can be dominant for the next decade. Doom may fade (Dwight Freeney anyone?) a lot quicker giving up so much size.

I'm as big of a Dumervil apologist as you'll find out there, but Marshall appears set to join(and subsequently rule) the elite echelon of NFL receivers.

Marshall, by far. Now I'm not sure how the injury will effect him but he last year was one of the NFL's elite WR's who showed he can be an asset in every phase of the game for years to come and could even get better. Dumervil has shown to be a productive pass rusher but one must recognize that he is a liability against the run and has yet to make an impact against the two AFC powers that Denver will have to beat to get back to the Super Bowl, Indianapolis and San Diego. Now I believe Dumervil will continue to improve as a pass rusher but I would not compare a 3rd down pass rusher (again, I know he starts but he's virtually a ghost on running downs) to an elite WR.

Marshall. If they were in this draft, we'd probably take Marshall at 12. Doom is still a situational player.

Marshall would be one the top five picks in the draft this year. Dumervil would be in the mid-late 1st round, IMO.

I kinda disagree with the Freeney comparison. I think Doom has a motor that few players in this league have and if he can get a little help on the inside of the line he can and will become an upper echelon pass rushing defensive end

I pick Elvis with my heart, but Marshall with my head. Marshall does what maybe 1 or 2 players in the league can do, scares the hell out of whole defenses. LB are just as uneasy about trying to tackle him as DB's. The man is a freak of nature. Name another big time WR that is as fun to watch with the football in his hands? Elvis is my boy. The guy plays with such passion. The guy beats guys 6 to 9 inches taller than him. The only thing is, he needs a partner to reach the next level. The guy gets held every play too.

That's why I hated the Jarvis Moss pick. Moss has no upside that Dumervil had not already show before the Moss pick. He's no more a run stuffer than Dumervil.

Moss may be talented, but he'll have to break into the starting lineup--and that means being better than Elvis. Not sure Moss will ever do that.

What we needed then and now are DT's. When our DT's improve, all the DE's are going to start looking a whole lot better. Moss added little to that equation. A DT instead of Moss would have added a lot.

Luckily the NFL is changing the position of the refs and they will be able to see him getting hooked every play. And if Denver can grab a tackle who can pair with Thomas and the tackles can hold up and Moss or Crowder steps up on the opposite side, Doom will be a pro bowler

I know that all DL say that they get held every play, but only one can say he gets held by his head.

Makes me all kind of angry when I see Doom getting mugged at the line, and no call is coming. How can the Ref's live with themselves? I know that the league wants to protect the QB's(Not named Cutler) but come on. Fair is fair. Give Elvis a chance.

Both could be very good, but Marshall has the chance to be elite.

I'm not convinced that Elvis is an everydown player, although I'm hoping, and I think that the Freeney comparison is apt; remembering that alot of folks were calling him the best DE in football for a while there - they've all just disappeared lately.

With Marshall I can't add much more than everyone else has been saying for weeks/months, he has to keep his nose clean or he's not going to give himself the chance to reach his full potential - not here at any rate.

I'd say Jennings to be honest. That guy had some pretty long runs after catch.

I called it a toss up at this point. Were it based on production alone this would easily be Marshall, but when you take into account the possibility that Marshall will do something else in the future that will end his run in Denver, it has to be a toss up at this point.

I read an article this week on exactly that subject. The Broncos in particular are pleading their case before the competition committee to have a ref placed by the RT position to watch for offensive holding. They are pissed that Elvis gets held almost every play. I'll try to find the article...
