If there were still 15(?) rounds in the draft I would offer a 15.

Talk about the anti-Jake Plummer. This joker just can't stand to not be in the headlines.....not even for a few weeks.

Why doesn't he just cheat on his wife with Paris Hilton and Britney Spears at the same time? It would get him more publicity and would probably be marginally less harmful to his long-term health than another season in the NFL. Then again, maybe not.

from Peter King a few WEeks ago:

5. I think there's one thing left about the Brett Favre retirement that I'd like to leave you with, with a little perspective after the fact. There's nothing sinister about it. There's no resentment of GM Ted Thompson and his action/inactions in the last couple of months, particularly as it pertains to trying to acquire Randy Moss. There's no anger toward anyone with the Packers for not aggressively courting Favre to get him to play one more year.

The one little nugget I didn't post last week when I wrote about Favre's phone message to me the day the news broke was an aside from Favre about how, seemingly, the news got out that there may have been some ulterior motive behind the retirement. He traced it to his close friend and career-long agent, Bus Cook. "Bus is a lot like my Dad. Sometimes he says things he probably shouldn't have,'' Favre said.

Part of the job description of an agent is that you can be thrown under the bus as many times as you client wishes, and you just smile and bend over some more. There is one person with a clear history of milking the media for attention, and it aint his agent.

Favre's agent has quietly inquired with teams about their interest in trading for the three-time NFL most valuable player, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

That's not speculation. That's an agent at work. And NO agent just acts on his own like this without his client's permission.....unless he wants to get fired. And last time I checked, he hasn't been fired yet.

To say Brett has nothing to do with what is going on is crazy. If he were truly done and wanted no more publicity, he'd file his retirement papers already.

Agent says Favre wanted to play another year but felt Packers didn't want him
By TOM SILVERSTEIN
tsilverstein@journalsentinel.com
Posted: March 4, 2008

Quarterback Brett Favre told Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy Monday night that he was going to retire.

But his agent, James (Bus) Cook, told the Journal Sentinel this morning that he believes Favre wants to play another year and didn't get the sense that the Packers wanted him back all that badly.

"It's my opinion," Cook said of the Packers' lack of interest. "I know he wants to play one more year. I do not know much conversation there was (between Favre and the Packers) and I don't think anyone forced him to make that decision. But I don't know that anyone tried to talk him out of it."

Cook said that Favre feels physically and mentally capable of playing at least one more year.

"I think he wanted to play," Cook said. " I think he's still got it. He knows he's still got it. I think he felt he could play one more year. I don't know if they told him they really wanted him to play. That's just the feeling I got."

Cook was asked whether he thought Favre could be talked into returning: "I don't know," he said.

now consider this:

COOK TRYING TO SAVE HIS PAYDAY?
Posted by Mike Florio on April 3, 2008, 6:19 p.m.
So with Sam Farmer (we wonder if there’s a farmer somewhere named “Sam Reporter”) of the Los Angeles Times reporting that agent Bus Cook has been quietly inquiring as to potential trade interest in Brett Favre and Cook vehemently denying the report, what’s really happening?

Here’s what we think — we think that Cook had planned to make three percent of $12 million when he prepared his 2008 budget, and he’s hoping to come up with a way to entice Brett into earning some of that money for Cook.

Cook previously has said that he thinks Brett retired because he believed that the Packers didn’t want him back. Brett, opting for magnanimity (thanks, Tiki) at his farewell press conference, surely would have never pointed such a finger at the team.

Cook, on the other hand, surely wouldn’t have made something like that up.

So Cook likely is thinking that if he can secretly broker a deal with a team like the Dolphins or the Ravens or the Chiefs or the Lions or the Falcons and bring it to Brett and hope that Brett takes a shine to the concept of continuing his career with a team that isn’t expected to win the Super Bowl in 2008, maybe Brett would come back.

And then maybe Cook would make three percent of $12 million, which by the way equates to $360,000.

If that were true and if word of Cook’s scam got out before he could find an interested team, what would Cook do? Well, we suppose he’d deny it. He might even call such a report ”absolutely false.”

Anyway, this is all speculation. But it’s the only way to reconcile Farmer’s report with Cook’s reaction.

Meanwhile, the fact that Favre has not yet filed his retirement papers is irrelevant. Players can unretire well into the season. Last year, the deadline to do so was November 30.

In fact, some players delay filing their retirement paperwork for years. Former Lions running back Barry Sanders, for example, didn’t file his retirement paperwork for years. In fact, it’s possible that he still hasn’t.

Feel dumb? Why? Chaz, you don't realize it, but you just proved my point. How did SI get these quotes? Hmmmm. Looks to me like Brett couldn't stay silent and went for the cameras once again. And you were the one who incorrectly said there was no Favre interview. Not me.

I don't see Jake seeking out the cameras to do these "shooting down the rumor" interviews.

No I didn't. Look when the article was written. I said the LA article was speculation, written a few days ago. Favre called SI this morning just to clear it up. We both know if he didn't clear it up, rumors would not have stopped.

Looks to me like Brett couldn't stay silent and went for the cameras once again. And you were the one who incorrectly said there was no Favre interview. Not me.

Looks to me like you just can't stand the guy, and are so blinded by that you fail to make any logical connections. I said there was no Favre interview AS OF YESTERDAY. And he didn't get in front of any cameras, he made a call to a national sports news journalist to clear the rumors up, pretty low-key way of going about it if you ask me. No press conference, no tv cameras, no tv interviews/appearances, just a phone call...

I love Jake. But he is one of a kind. And because Brett hasn't disappeared into the wilderness(he kind of has by working on his property all day) and gotten out of the spotlight(impossible for someone of his stature, Elway is in the news all the time still too...get used to it.). Bottom line, I think you're way off and you know it.

uh if you don't leave the game for at least a few reg season games or a season it is not a comeback. You can't retire one day, change mind the next, and call it a comeback. What a joke. What it would be called is:

Favre lied isn't really retiring.

Well not when you are the reason a team hasn't been in it for several years and now that you are, the reason they aren't in the SB.

Is Brett Favre setting himself up for a return to the Green Bay Packers?

Reading the comments from the retired Packers legend in the Biloxi Sun Herald, one could surmise that Favre is not completely shutting the door on a return.

Wow. This is a month after his tearful goodbye at Lambeau Field. This is a week after he vehemently denied a Los Angeles Times report that his agent was testing the trade waters. Interestingly, in these latest comments, Favre was talking about the possibility of coming back to Green Bay and nowhere else. So maybe the denials of the trade talk were truthful. Yet, the idea of going back to Green Bay is intriguing.

Favre gave these latest quotes to Sun Herald reporter Al Jones, who interviewed Favre for the foreword of the newspaper's upcoming book on the Mississippi native. "It would be hard to pass up, I guess," Favre said when asked what might happen if Aaron Rodgers were injured and the Packers needed him to step in. Favre went on to say he "could be enticed to do it."

Favre concluded his comments to Jones with this: "I guess the best response would be, right now, no (I'm not coming back)."

'Right now', doesn't last very long.

Favre pointed to the perils of preparation and practice time as reasons to stay retired. But again, for the first time since retiring, he has opened the door for a comeback.

What seems evident here is that Favre wants to play on game day but he doesn't feel up to everything that goes into it. Is he sending the Packers a message that he'd like to come to an accord in which his preparation time is lessened? If the guy is already starting to waver, how will he feel when his former teammates begin training camp in July without him?

What seems certain: The Favre coming-out-of-retirement stories are just starting. Today, he provided the fuel himself. There's definitely more to come on this subject before the Packers host Minnesota to open the season on ESPN's "Monday Night Football" Sept. 8.
