figured it out, its pretty easy actually...just look for the first crossover between them. 1800x4 = 2400x3
the way i always look at it then is it takes 20x2400=4800, so 17x2400=48000-7200

so 17+4 (number of pages it takes to get to 7200 with 1800 words per page)=21 pages
whooooo

Agree Scottxray, the test is too easy, but some people don't test well on these things and still have plenty of smarts and common sense, while some who test well cant screw a light bulb in without directions.

Can see how it would be a good test for thinking on your feet though and scoring below 10 like VY supposedly did makes it hard to believe he can digest an NFL playbook.

You get the correct answer 3 different ways for this ?

1)the other shapes have 4 sides and this one had 6 sides

2)it was the only shape to not have a right angle in it

3)the other shapes were highlited on 2 sides and this one was highlited on 3

As for doing the problem solving on the 2 math related ?...i literally had just woke up and was to lazy to bother...i probably would have exceeded the time if i tried...

I used to administer this test, so its easy as hell to me because I know the types of questions presented.

The Problem with this test is its just an elimination test that looks for scores outside the 80% of the bell curve in application. And, with minimal preparation, it can be manipulated the 4 points that make a difference in the score being significant for that purpose. Just by skipping the harder questions and answering the easier ones should manipulate the score up 6 points.

So, When a player scores under 16 it is a major flag to check the way they learn and retain information as it pertains to the playbook and Gameplan. I love all the people who fault Coaches for not being able to make "adjustments" during the game to make a difference. Most of the time, the players are the ones who can not make the adjustments on the fly or week to week. That is why most of the great defenses have SMART players or KISS principles.

Yet, the coaches always get the credit or blame if teams can not "adjust" during the game. Priceless ;D

Merlin
03-24-2008, 11:37 AM
15/15. What struck me was the time given. At least 1-2 mins too much. Any player coming straight out of college scoring less than a 10 (and that is being extremely generous) should sue their institution for failing to educate, and being more interested in the $ they make from college football. There is just no excuse for a junior or college graduate fresh out of school not to perform at least to a mediocre level (which is 10/15).

For those of you that think I'm on a high horse or being an intellectual jerk-off just think about it. They graduated from college or accomplished at least 3 yrs, yet they were not able to "complete" a test that a recent high school graduate should score at least a 12. If you exclude the questions with the more difficult math problems, there are just 13 questions to answer, in 5 minutes, and each of the answers require only a little bit of a person's total attention.

Please note I did use the qualifier "fresh out of school".

Scored a 8/15 only because i misread 3 questions.

That's the point, to see if you can pay attention to details.
The value of the test is not in the questions, they are all pretty easy, it's if you can pick up details and make quick accurate decisions.

i took the test again, this time i got 9/15. :strong:

is this like the sat where you get better with every test you take?

maybe if i took the test 3 more times, i can be like all the other maners here.

you really thought the test was that hard?

I missed one. Number 11. Not very clear. What does that translate to?

you really thought the test was that hard?

i was only joking

this test has been on the espin website for several years now. I took it awhile back and scored like 13/15.

I don't know what happened last night... i think it was because i took the test straight from this forum and it was kinda confusing. taking the test from the actual espin website is more clear. It didn't help that the question with the shapes didn't have a drawing and i was lying in bed half asleep.

enough of my excuses. what is your excuse for missing number 11??

I find it hard to believe some of the scores that you guys state... when some of the confusion you guys have with some questions are pretty ****in stupid.

"It doesn't say you have to use 21 pages"

Man, what the fu.ck? How the fu.ck are you going to ask that ****? So for one of the questions, it says "The boy wears a hat."

I can easily say, it doesn't say when the boy wears a hat, or if he's wearing a hat now.

Dashes in between the numbers so they look negative? Where do you see dashes?

Most of these questions were extremely logical.. here are the ones I believe that are "excusable by mistake or difficulty"

#4 - has nothing to do with being smart
#9 - what the ****?
#11 & #13 - both are going to be challenging for most to do in their head

yeah...but make it even easier and do 18x+24y=480
x=21-y
18(21-y)+24y=480
using estimations 18 20's is how much?(360) then add 1*18=378
378 -18y+24y=480
6y=102
y=17

It means that you'll probably never die from drinking antifreeze or get run over by a truck crossing the street when the signal says don't walk...you'll never be electricuted from sticking metal objects into wall recepticals or suffer several broken noses through your life time from walking into closed glass doors or you'll never fall out of a open window 60 stories high...

Last but not least...you'll probably never crash through an entertainment center after slipping on a McDonalds bag laying on the floor...

Other then that i have no idea what it means..

Hilarious!

14/15.

the only one i missed i still cant figure out how to solve for some reason. the question is confusing because it doesnt say that you MUST use 21 pages...
11. In printing an article of 48,000 words, a printer decides to use two sizes of type. Using the larger type, a printed page contains 1,800 words. Using smaller type, a page contains 2,400 words. The article is allotted 21 full pages in a magazine. How many pages must be in smaller type?

48,000 word article = 20 small type pages. We still have a page left. The large type takes up 600 more words, so 4 pages of large would get that extra page. That leaves 17 pages of small.

13 out of 15. Too lazy to attempt 13 and missed 12. I understand that the average hours of daylight and darkness per day in September is nearest equal to the hours of daylight and darkness in March but since September contains 30 days and March 31 shouldn't the answer be November?

Good way to simplify it!

15/15 in about 3-1/2 minutes.

#13 is also very easy to do in your head if you simplify it.

13. Three individuals form a partnership and agree to divide the profits equally. X invests $9,000, Y invests $7,000, Z invests $4,000. If the profits are $4,800, how much less does X receive than if the profits were divided in proportion to the amount invested?

9+7+4=20
20 x 5=100%
investor X has a 45% share
4800 x 45% 2160
2160-1600=560

No it's the months that are equidistant from December 21 (Winter solstice ) the shortest day of the year.

slyinky

No it's the months that are equidistant from December 21 (Winter solstice ) the shortest day of the year.
Yes, I understand that, but the question is "The hours of daylight and darkness in SEPTEMBER are nearest equal to the hours of daylight and darkness in: 1. June, 2. March, 3. May, 4. November." If March and September were both equal in the number of days then yes, the answer would be March. The hours of daylight and darkness would be nearest equal. But since the month of September is 30 days and March is 31 days then the answer should be November. The months of March and May each contain 31 days or one more day of daylight and darkness than September. June and November each contain the same amount of days of daylight and darkness as September and since November is closer to September than is June equidistantly from December 21st than November would be the correct answer.

I got 13 of 15. These are all pretty easy questions. I think the trick is the time that you have to complete it.

If you have 50 questions and they get increasingly more difficult as you go along...then, you need to put the pedal to the metal in the begininning in order to have a little more time at the end for the more difficult ones.

I'm sure they train for this and have strategies for guessing etc....sort of like they do for the ACT and the SAT.

If we are talking mean average, then Alaska and any other extreme Northern/Southern areas would be extreme standard deviations. So March would still be correct, on average.

While I will concede that Alaskans are both extreme and deviant, the fact remains that the question is relative to where the test-taker is, therefore not a valid question as written (it's multi-keyable, which is a no-no in the test-writing business).

Here's the math, by the way:

September: 30 days x 14:16 average hours of daylight = 25680 minutes of sunlight

March: 31 days x 10:24 average hours of daylight = 19344 minutes of sunlight (-6366 minutes)

May: 31 days x 16:52 average hours of daylight = 31372 minutes of sunlight (+5692 minutes)

The earth is tilted on it's axis by 23 degrees as the earth rotates around the sun it is the tilt that causes longer days and than shorter days, December 21st is the shortest day of the year therefore 60 days before that date should have the same hours of daylight as the day that comes 60 days after that date and would be true anywhere you are in the world the only difference would be in the Southern hemisphere, there December 21st would be the longest day of the year.

Better questions would be its draft day. You will either be drafted by the Broncos, Raiders, Chiefs, Chargers. Which of these teams doesn't fit with the other teams?

a-Broncos, because they trade away great players
b-Raiders, because they overpay for FA
c-Chiefs, because they are too far east
d-Chargers, because they have never won a Superbowl
