Just an FYI, ESPN's First Take (on ESPN2) will be featuring the Broncos this morning on their mock draft. For those who haven't seen it, they bring on a local sports writer in the city of the team picking who discusses their needs, who they like and then makes a pick.

And yes I do hate ESPN but if they're going to be talking Broncos, I'll watch.

Hopefully not another one of those huge upside/downside guys. Please let's take some more bluechips this year in FA and the draft.

who's the local "talent"? i'd take Shefter over the cumulation of Armstrong, Paige, Burger Bill, and any other clever guy they'll probably use.

Didnt they fire all the sports writers for the Broncos ? Maybe they'll send the stadium clean up guy that Coyer admired so much ??

Mike Klis from the Post was on. He listed OT and DT as the team's two biggest needs but said they could go any number of directions with the pick. He mentioned Denver will be looking to draft a WR and P later in the draft. He also said that negotiations between the Falcons and Jason Elam are heating up so the Broncos will likely need to pickup a kicker as well.

Getting back to the pick, he said the Broncos love Jake Long who obviously won't be around at #12. Of the remaining OT's (which according to this mock draft was all but Long) he said they like Ryan Clady the best, however the Broncos believe Ryan Harris is a better player than Clady which may deter them from taking an OT. He said the Broncos would really like to trade down, possibly with Atlanta, Houston or Dallas. Forced to stay at #12, he believed the Broncos would take a RB. He said they were very high on Jonathan Stewart as their #12 pick until his recent injury but now believes they are very high on Rashard Mendenhall who would be an excellent fit for the Broncos one-cut-and-go system.

As his pick, he had the Broncos taking Mendenhall.

That is so ***ing stupid! If they like Harris so much, why not take Clady and have bookend tackles for the next 10 years?

****ing ridiculous!

But, it's all moot because we are going to trade down.

Well at least they got Klis who tries to do a decent job. Not impressed with the scatterbrained approach and logic. BTW, wouldn't it rock if Klis actually had the connection and cojones to work with Shanny and use this as a sounding board for dis-information . . . . what else is EastcoastSPiN good for?

Does Clady have RT experience? I could see Denver, having their money problems, hesitant to pay big bucks to a RT?

Agreed. If Harris is truly as ready and capable as they say that he is, then I hope we trade down and get a player that is prepared for RT like Cherilus (good experience and a reported nasty streak - both contrary to Foster). Then we use the other picks on the 2nd tier DL that don't have injury concerns and a good #2 receiver prospect that can stretch the field like Caldwell or Avery (who could also double as a returner).

Not surprised either of the rumors of Sweed either. Of course this could all be smokescreen and Shanny drafts Clady.

Specifically with Sweed, it would give us a number two option next to Marshall that we need. Stokely and Colbert are slot recievers. Sweed could stretch the field and give Cutler more weapons to throw to.

Why doesn't that make sense? They are saying that they would draft one guy but not another because of ability, not because they don't have a need at the position.

He explicitly says that they feel that Harris is better than Clady. Obviously one can assume that they would draft Long because they feel he is the only OT in this draft that is better than Harris.

You may or may not agree with their assessment of Harris' abilities, but the argument makes logical sense.

My perfect draft would be us trading up to get jake long. Jake long is someone that you can put on that side of the line and we can run it where we want and give Cutty the time to make throws without pressure. PLEASE DRAFT JAKE LONG and then Scmitt in later rounds.

If the Broncos don't feel comfortable paying an OT big money at #12 if they believe they already have their LT in Harris. I honestly have no idea about Harris, nor any of these incoming OT's, beyond what I've heard and read. I am of the belief that the Broncos, and other teams in the same area of the draft, are going to have a difficult time moving down which would be ideal. As great as a weakness as OT is, you simply can't reach on an OT that high that you don't believe is a franchise guy. Assuming the Broncos can't move down, they need to just stay put and take the best guy available. Based on recent talk, it seems like they'll be a run on OT's in the top 10. Inevitably, someone of great value to us should drop.

I can't believe that we can't find 2 veteran O tackles that are decent in the FA market or even a DT! I have a feeling that Pat is pretty pizzy right now about everything and is going to start making his players step up and earn their pay.

I'm kind of tired of the soap opera stories that come about from Free Agency pickups not panning out for the Broncos. We don't need any big name OT's or DT's, just decent producers.

So we have some GLARING needs, no money, no high draft picks, no options...this isn't looking like a franchise on the up and up.

You know you will have to move up to get him.......gaurantee that Chiefs will take him if he is there at 5. If gone, they might even be stupid enough to reach for Claydy at 5.

If Shanny likes harris but still wants to go OT, Otah is the perfect fit for RT.

Jake Long is a pipe dream, I seriously doubt Shanny sacrifices multiple picks to get him. However, I also think the comment about Harris being better than Clady is bs.

If the Broncos stay at 12 and Clady is there, I don't doubt that they will take him. Personally, I'd prefer they take a RB and 12 and I'd be thrilled with Mendenhall, but I think Shanahan would take Clady over Mendenhall.

I've actually jumped over to the Albert wagon pending it's true that Harris is going to be decent. Noone's really seen him play extensively so we're left with what we're told. However, whatever the case is, Pears can be competent at LT so if he and Harris competed there, I'm confident someone could play the position adequately. A player like Albert to man RT with someday a possibility of possibly playing anywhere on the line but C, really makes him an attractive option. It also comes with the trade down bonus as he should be there in the end of the 1st range.

Jake Long will be long gone before the Broncos pick at #12, and they don't have the picks to move up to draft him.

Mendenhall for me would be a 'fantastic' fit for the Broncos.
