This guy has flown low under the radar, but he is absolutly the backbone of the UT run defense. He will provide someone with tremendous value late.
Derek Lokey #96
Defensive Tackle
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 275 pounds
Class Year: Sr
Experience: 3V
Hometown: Denton, TX
High School: Denton High
As a Recruit (profile)
Class: 2004 (High School)
Rating/Rankings: | 5.6
Rivals.com Defensive tackles 2004 (33)
Rivals.com Texas Top 100 2004 (41)
01/15/08 - East-West Shrine Tuesday Practice: Appeared for the first time today and did what was expected. Using his short stature and great strength and leverage, he consistently held his ground against double-teams, making backs bounce outside. Absolutely wasted guards in one-on-one drills with initial quickness, hustle, and hands. Not to mention a nice spin move inside…

"Defensive tackle Derek Lokey did 38 reps on the 225-pound bench press. He also worked out at fullback and deep snapper. "

i have been pretty big on him. i think he is a little light and will have to gain weight but the guy is ox strong. a high character hard worker is exactly what we need.

i remember him playing fullback and was pretty effective in goaline situations. if he can snap well we can put him in a rotation at tackle and use him to snap as i think it would be better then carrying 4 or 5 TE's again this year.

I say draft him strictly because he can potentially play another position and alleviate the roster spot that has gone to strictly a long snapper. What is the expectation on round?

I watched the UT bowl game to see okam and came away thinking Lokey was the better player. Okam was never pushed back. But he generated absolutely no push. If the ball carrier was over an arm length away he was useless.

He could be a solid pick for the Broncos in the 6 round. I also like Booker from Va tech .

I think he's actually bulked up to 290 right now.
