CHESTNUT HILL -- Chiefs coach Herm Edwards, Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson, Panthers general manager Marty Hurney, and Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman are a few of the top NFL officials in attendance today for Boston College's Pro Day.
The Chiefs, who pick fifth, have sent the largest NFL contingent, a group that also includes offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. That leads to an interesting thought: Would Kansas City, which seemingly has its quarterback of the future in Brodie Croyle, consider selecting Matt Ryan at No. 5?
In all, 23 teams are scheduled to have NFL officials in attendance.
The Patriots are represented by scouts DeJuan Daniels and Brian Flores.
Now why would the Chef do that if Croyle is the man???

He's the QB of the present, but he's not proven enough, nor do the Chiefs have enough invested in him to disregard other QB prospects.

Croyle is a poor man's Jake Plummer. He's not as talented or mobile as Jake was, but can be just as erratic. If the Chiefs built a really solid offense he might be able to run it well, but if they attempt to rely on him he will crumble with the rest of the offense.

It's definitely in their best interest to be scouting him now because
a) If they choose him, he would be an instant upgrade to Croyle IMO
b) If they decide to pass on him come draft dady, they definitely don't want to show their hand now.

They have the 5th pick in the draft, it not like they have folks ahead that might steal thier guy, or folks that will trade up.

Poor comparison on your part. Croyle and Plummer are quite different in terms of talent and mental makeup. Plummer got rattled pretty easy. Croyle has poise.

Well, it's certainly looking like they're either going QB or OT. If the Falcons pass on Ryan, the Chiefs are the next logical team to take him so a team might jump up to the Raiders spot to take Ryan if they really wanted him. I don't think Jake Long will be there at five but if he is and that's the guy the Chiefs really want, then everything works out for them.
Still, I do agree that nothing crazy will probably happen but it's better to be the poker player just in case. I think they're legitimately interested in Ryan because despite what Chief fans think, their front office knows Croyle isn't the answer.

We could take almost anyone to be honest. DT is a need, too, and Ellis is a stud.
The front office does not "know" Croyle is a bust. They are going to give him every chance to prove himself.

Then why was everyone and anyone on the offense staff in Boston??? Plus the GM. That a sign that they are interested in someone big and Ryan is the only one that fits that profile. The BC right tackle is projected as late first/second isn't goint to get that attention.

In a way, the best thing to do is to pass on Ryan and let Croyle crap out another 4-12 season, get another high pick, then you can find your franchise QB next year.

I could see the Chiefs trading down and selecting Brohm around 17-22. Get more picks and a QB w/ some upside. I don't think he's going to be an all pro but I think he can be serviceable w/ a supporting cast. Too many needs on that team to not at least think about this...

We're not going to draft for need.
I don't see anything in any of these quarterbacks that makes them more attractive than Croyle. Most of them have good to average arms (apart from Flacco). At least Croyle has a cannon.
If I'm gonna pick a QB at 5, he better be a Cutler-esque prospect. Matt Ryan strikes me as a guy who would go in the 2nd round in a good QB class.

Herm and co are doing this to strengthen their trade bait. Herm likes Croyle and so does our front office. I see this as a smoke screen. I think they are looking hard at RT Gosder Cherilus as an option in round 2 if he is still there.
I think Croyle will be the starter and is proving what he wants it. Ryan is overrated IMO. He doesn't have anything more than Croyle.
Ryan weighs in at 218 lbs. Croyle weighed in at 212 lbs(as shown on Hard Knocks).
Ryan is 2 inches taller. No biggie
Both are mobile.
Both did well with little help from their offense's in college.
Both are poised QB's.
Big difference=Croyle has a much stronger arm

My new measuring system is similar to the British stone....except:
1 Stone= 1 Croyle...about 14 pounds.
So Ryan weighs about 16.3 Croyle....or 228 pounds.

Plummer was known for performing well under pressure and leading his team. It wasn't until the end of 2005 and 2006 season that he seemed to lose "it"
You're really grabbing at straws with the flipping the bird remark, as I don't think that equals "losing your cool" like you implied.

It's called trade bait. I seriously doubt KC takes Ryan, especially with the amount of optimistic things that Herm has said about Croyle. He likes Croyle. That is his guy. Croyle hasn't been given a fair chance to show his worth yet. A QB who plays behind an OL that gave up 55 sacks is bound to get hurt. And don't even bring Croyle's size into this because Huard is 218 pounds and got hurt as well
