Diabetes can be managed with proper diet and exercise to the point where you don't respond like a "normal" diabetic.

I believe diabetes caused by weight gain can go away (or the one associated with weight)

Kaylore is right. Depending on what kind of diabetes you have, with a proper diet and work you can actually (to my understanding) become "non diabetic"

I'm not really sure how it works, but I have known a couple people who really worked on it and stayed on top of their diet so well that their doctors said they didn't need the medicine anymore.

You are correct. With sugar diabetes at least, you can't simply get rid of it by changing diet, etc. Once you have it, you have it. You can only hope to delay the progression of it and "manage" it.

http://www.sugardiabetes.net/

I'm guessing it was mis-diagnosed last year. Switched urine sample or something of that ilk. Happens more than one might think.

You always have diabetes... the reason is Spider that your levels have to be real high to spill over in the urine and just because it is not showing up in the urine does not mean you are cured.

You need to go to the doctor NOW and get an A1C test.... and take the meds he gives you.

They can pull your license and well as you can do major damage to your eyes body with sustained high sugar levels.

I am not a doctor, but I play one on the Orangemane...

If I was you, I would go to a Doc, ask for a 2nd opinion, and ask him to rectify the difference it the two readings.

Something like this happened to my Brother in law just in Jan. Between Xmas day and Jan 31st, he lost 30 lbs. He was drinking constantly and pissing constantly, had blurry vision. He goes to the hospital cuz "he doesnt feel very well" to find out his blood sugar is over 1000.

Turns out, he has always had Type 1 Diabetes (the kind you are born with) & it just decided to wait til his mid 30s to rear its ugly head.

You can help yourself out greatly by losing weight but it is not a cure, once you have Diabetes you have it for life and denial won't make it go away.

Doctors mess up when they tell a patient there is a little sugar in the blood but there is nothing to worry about.

Get that A1C done as soon as possible

There are two general types of diabetes mellitus (excluding pregnancy).

Type I is caused by underproduction of insulin. You cannot "get rid" of this type except for in theory a pancreatic transplant.

Type II is caused by relative resistance to insulin... usually (but not always) due to being overweight. There is al kinds of literature to show that type II diabetics can become disease free with substantial weight loss.

Actually I am on board with Lynch. I switched from sugar sodas to diet about 2 years ago. I started having panic attacks and other weird events. I heard about aspartame and did research. Turns out aspartame is some nasty ass stuff. There is a lot of controversy over why the FDA passed it. I was a soda holic. So I was loading my body up with aspartame. I quite about a month ago. I now have one cup of coffee in the morning and a regular Mt. Dew at lunch. The rest of the time its water, green tea, and juice. Man I have never felt better and the panic attacks are gone, I am not on edge, and I have a lot more concentration.

As for the Diabetes Spider could be you had an anomoly on your test. A false positive if you will.

the only way you could have a false positive on a urine test is if you had unclean hands when you were submitting the sample.

people look.... 20 + million people in the USA have type 2 diabetes and another 10 million have no idea they have it (I bet more)

I went thru the denial stage but it's a waste of time, if you are producing enough sugar to show up in urine you cannot deny it.

When you produce sugar in you urine it is actually spilling over into it , its the bodys defense to try to remove it from your system thats why you get real thirsty and have to pee alot.

Diabetes often goes undiagnosed because many of its symptoms seem so harmless. Recent studies indicate that the early detection of diabetes symptoms and treatment can decrease the chance of developing the complications of diabetes.
Some diabetes symptoms including

* Frequent urination
* Excessive thirst
* Extreme hunger
* Unusual weight loss
* Increased fatigue
* Irritability
* Blurry vision

If you have one or more of these diabetes symptoms, see your doctor right away. You can also take our Online Diabetes Risk Test to find out if you are at risk for diabetes.

You are right I was thinking blood test. Because I was just at the doc office this morning and the wife was getting her sugar test for Gestational Diabetes. The doctor was explaining why you have to fast and only drink water for an hour after taking the glucose drink or you might get a a false positive. But that was in regards to a blood test not a urine test.

Metformin costs 4 dollars a month at Wally World.... that is the most common drug and what appears to be safest.

They won't take you off the road right off the bat, they will give you a certain time limit to get it down.

When Diagnosed I was at 9.4 now I hover around 5.8 - 6.0 I think they want you lower than 7.5 to be a driver.

The sooner you get on the proper meds the sooner you will feel better and give yourself the best shot at being around for the family you are feeding.

eat lots of fiber,
eat only whole grain foods
no refined sugar
limit pasta
eat fruit but in moderation.
fiber is very important in a diabetics diet
Soluble fiber is good for cholesterol and the other kind helps keep your insides in good shape.
All your target numbers go down when you are Diabetic, they want the cholesterol lower than the avg person and the blood pressure too.

I will help you man, I will give you my number after you go to the doc and you can call me anytime, I am in the same boat but I am managing well and you can too

Spider it seems to me your numbers are already low. So per RR that puts you in the safe to drive zone. Its for your own benefit.

You also have to look at why the DOT puts a limit on Diabetic drivers. You go into a Diabetic seizure or coma you are going to hurt people. You aren't at that stage and you are healthy but you need to take care of yourself.

Its a tough spot though because of your situation so I see your side as well.

most type 2's only have a problem going high on their blood glucose, increasing the risk for stroke and heart attack and blurry vision kidney damage etc.

type 1's usually are the ones that have the seizures from the low numbers.

Of course anyone who is using insulin runs that risk.

in type 2's the pancreas is actually producing insulin but it's either too little or not working well enough.

Imagine every beta cell had a door to open to let the sugar in your blood go in to produce energy for the body.
when the doors fail to open the sugar stays in the blood, and is what is referred to as insulin resistant.

drugs like metformin make these doors on the cells more sensitive to open to deliver the goods

There is a huge difference between diabetes, called Type 1 and Type 2. Type 2 can usually be taken care of by lifestyle changes, diet and exercise. Type 1's, like myself, need to add insulin.

Spider, as others have stated here, Diabetes is a serious condition that leads to both macrovascular complications and microvascular complications. As you might suppose, Macrovascular side effects include those which affect the cardiovascular system, kidney function and eye function. Microvascular complications can include diabetic neuropathy (twinges in your periphery, painful pricking sensations) and impotence--who ever suggested you get a HBA1C is right on--you want your value to be around 7--previously it was thought that the lower the number the better (6.5 was the goal) but now we have concluded that trying to maintain a patient at a level of 6.5 or below was not very practical due to the poly-pharmacy aspect of glucose control at that level. HBA1c is an average of the amount of glucose that your blood is "carrying" over the last 8 weeks or so--think of it as your report card for glucose control versus a diabetic blood test strip meter which will show you what your glucose is currently (think of it as an exam grade)---PM me if you have any questions that you do not want addressed publicly
