:(
I remember him from his performance in the movie, Roadhouse - that was the first time I'd ever seen him perform before.

He's one of the only reasons to watch that horrible trainwreck of a movie (well that and to see Patrick Swaz actually have trouble beating up a old man Ha!)
Pretty incredible how he could play like that under the circumstances....R.I.P.

I just want to add what a great guy Jeff was. Got to meet him at a blues fest in the late 80's and he hung out and talked to a lot people. I know some other sax players who also got to meet him and you get the same thing from everyone, and that is he was a very nice guy. Not to mention he was a unique player and blues can't really afford to lose too many of those to cancer. What a huge loss his album was just getting ready to release.

Jazz either I hope. I was just out at a local orange county calif HS for my nephews jazz band performance and I was blown away at how good some of these kids can play. So I agree Herbie Hancock just won album of the yr and kids are playing jazz. I have a pretty decent blues/soul band going right now and just replaced the lead guitar player with a better lead guitar player so I'm pretty happy.
I agree though blues and jazz will not be dying. They will never be the in thing again but will always have enough artists and fans to stay healthy.

There was this local front man for a metal band out here a while back.
They did this fund raiser for him called "*** Cancer", kind of brought back a memory.

I missed it last yr but have been about 5-6 other years. I also hit up the playboy jazz fest sometimes, Doheny beach blues fest is also a good one.
88.1 is a great station they were hosting my nephews middle school jazz concert.
I take it you are into music and the blues in particular?

Yes, have been into the blues since about ten.
My grandfather was mostly into gospel blues, camp and prison songs.
Now, i belong to the Santa Barbara blues society.
Go out a couple of times a year for shows.
And the Southland blues as well.
Ever go to the Golden Sails hotel on PCH, Thanksgiving eve for battle of the blues harps?

used to work at a radio station that would rent out Ferry's for concerts out on our huge lake up here...actually got to see the guy play with a crowd of about 250....
as I worked for the station, got to hang out with Jeff at a "meet and greet", I can honestly say, truly a sweet guy, very down to earth...
if there are true fans out there, he does a version of "While my guitar gently weeps" that actually has George Harrison on it, phenominal, go download it...

Cool man. Yeah the PCH club very close to where I live and I have been there but not for that. I will look for that thanksgiving next yr. I spend a lot of time and money on music it's one of the things that I really love to do.

Cancer sucks. I had an old co-worker about 55-60 years old who died over the weekend from cancer. I think it was in the lymph nodes. Really sucks.

Yeah, that's why i posted it. Its weird thinking that Patrick Swayze is that old and that he's dying. One of those dudes I always watched in movies. Red Dawn is still the heat..

My favorite Swayze movie was the one where he plays the hick country boy chasing down his brothers killers in the big city called Next of Kin. Like most of his movies it was a little campy but I thought it was pretty good.

I had no idea that Patrick Swayze was dying from Pan cancer. That sucks.
I was no fan of his at all, but Roadhouse is one of those trainwreck movies....so bad it's hilarious at points and notable for Healey's playing and Kelly Lynch's nude scenes. I've heard of a drinking game in relation to this movie...anyoen know what it is?

Tough break about Swayze. I did not realize he was 55. I was thinking mid-40s. Still too young, though. You know, Roadhouse is a guilty pleasure for me. It's a bad movie, but I've always loved old sci-fi B-movies from the 50s and 60s, and it's entertaining in that same way.
