The Pats make low-ball offers to guys they never intend to keep so when they go elsewhere and sign huge contracts they get compensatory picks. I don't know what Moss is asking for, but if they really wanted to keep him they would find a way to do so. Seymour got paid. and the others walked and when they signed big contracts that reflected on the draft picks they were awarded. It's a good way to get compensation when you can't trade someone outright.

I'd love for Moss to leave the Pats for an NFC team. I still have the feeling they'll get something done, but New England is definitely trying to low-ball him knowing he wants to stay. I don't see how Berrian's deal couldn't have effected their negotiations. I think the Pats would have liked to ink Moss to something similar to Berrian's deal, but once Berrian (a guy half the player Moss is) signed that - Moss' agent must have been really smiling.

Berrian had no effect on him as Moss has the backing of Brady & a huge year + he showed good faith by taking a pay cut last year
