Check this out...

My friend sends me an e mail this evening. He is kinda a computer nerd and spends lotsa time on the net. It turns out that there are other things on the net besides the Mane and porn. Who knew???

Anyways, the dude visits the state of NM's unclaimed property page - where I was born and raised. It looks like every state has one. He starts plugging his name and names of friends into it and - viola - some title company in NM owes me at least 100 bucks (the most the site will display is 100 dollars).

So, he sends me this e mail and sure enough, I find it too. Fortunately, my name (Mr Lobo Rugger) isnt very common so I found it inside of 30 seconds. 30 seconds later, I had a claim in to the state for my new, untold windfall.

Who knows, I might be even be able to talk my wife into letting me buy a bottle of 20 year old, single malt scotch (drooling like Homer here).

Anyways, I visited the TX state site (used to live there, unfortunately) and while no one there owes me anything, some company owes my brother 14 bucks... lucky him, I am sure he will get on this post haste.

I also checked the state of VA (used to live there, too) and while they had nothing for me, I was talking to a friend online who lives there and low and behold the state of VA is holding on to something for her, too.

So, my fellow Maners, do yourself a favor and scope this out.

We oughta keep a running tally of just how much dinero we are all owed.

100 plus bucks and counting

Unfortunately, I have a ridiculously common name. In college, I actually had a roommate with the exact same name as me. I looked anyway, and it looks like I'm going to have to keep my day job - nothing to see here.

If it were the other way around, and you owed Cali money, they'd have cops on your doorstep within the hour to collect.

I hope that was sarcasm. Cops aren't collection agents.

Traffic Officers are armed tax collectors. So much so that Law Enforcement counts on those collections for state and local coffers.

This is true in a way. Since amendment 1 passed all local departments here have stepped up writing parking and traffic tickets to cover the loss of revenue.

Casual, Dom Casual. Seems fairly uncommon to me. :thanku:

BTW, I was talking to a friend yesterday and he is a big ND fan. He wanted to put a little sign over his door of his office "Play like a champion today." So I went on the net looking at the sign. I then searched the font for it and found some dudes who claimed that the closest font to that ND sign was the Dom Casual font - and then he wanted me to pay 30 bucks for said font.

Is that where you got your name from?

I do believe in most areas, you can call up the Sheriff and use him to exactly that. I do know of landlords calling up the Sheriff to evict deadbeat renters.

And someone else already pointed it out, but it bears repeating... in the four years I lived in No VA, about the only time I saw the VA SP was at rush hour and the only thing they were doing was trolling the HOV lanes for violators. Oh, and at the beginning of each month they would hit the inspection stickers pretty hard, too. If that aint revenue generation I dont know what the hell is.

I always had to laugh at VA. The state motto was "Sic Semper Tyrannis" - thus always to Tyrants, and on the flag they had some half naked chick leering over a defeated tyrant. Meanwhile, I found VA to be the most over taxed, over regulated, we have a law for everything - and a fine to go with it, and if we figure out how to put a meter on your neck we will tax breathing, too, state I ever lived in.

Of course, I havent yet lived in Cali.

The Sheriff can only serve you with summons to appear in court for debt, or come to enforce a court judgement for debt in which your property is to confiscated to satisfy that debt in the unlikely scenario that would ever happen.

If a debt is old enough that they are resorting to those tactics, it's likely past the point they can collect on it so not much to worry about there.

Just beware if those cops say that you won tickets to a Bronco game.
