The Chiefs today released Eddie Kennison, a starting wide receiver for the past six seasons.

The 35-year-old Kennison was a victim of the Chiefs’ youth movement. With the Chiefs looking to get younger, Kennison was an obvious target.

Between hamstring and shoulder injuries, he was able to play in only eight games last season. He caught just 13 passes for 101 yards.

Those numbers were far off those he posted earlier in his time with the Chiefs. Kennison caught at least 50 passes in each of his five full seasons in Kansas City and had more than 1,000 yards in both 2004 and 2005.

The Chiefs previously released another over-30 offensive starter, guard John Welbourn.

What no mention of his lone 1000 yard season? -edit Woops didn't read that far, I started to read it all, stopped then I was told not to bother.

I hear Herm is cutting all his WR's and signing 6 RB's and 3 Kickers. Triple Wing here comes KFC!

I hate to say it, but I give KC credit for knowing that it's time for them to rebuild. And actually admitting it publicly.

Cut the old heads and start the youth movement.

Welbourne will hurt worse. I think he had as many catches as Fast Eddie did last year.

I have to give Kennison props. He has had a good career. He redeemed himself in KC for what he pulled in Denver. I'm sure he'll find work this season.

That being said he is still a puss.

Knowing when to rebuild - sure.

Rebuilding around Croyle - not so much.

What I find especially hillarious is that they're now attempting a rebuild just a few years after giving Larry "never gonna be the same" Johnson and Gonzo both big contracts. You don't need top tier aging vets when you're basically abandoning winning. When you pledge that you'll have 3 new starters on your o-line next year, you're abandoning winning.

After writing that last line, maybe Croyle is simply their whipping post until they get a line that could protect a real QB. I'd rather be the wedge breaker than Croyle this year.

Do they draft a QB this year?

I agree. Their whole rebuilding plan doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

The guy remade his career in KC and was excellent to the fans. No stud, but very accessible and a team player.

He overplayed his contract and gave more than the fans expected. GL to him in his next job or retirement...

Hard to judge a guy without any line or much to throw to. Of course, I'm preaching to the choir here.

Slamming LJ for this year's production is foolish. It was obvious we had no line and no team feared our passing game. And slamming us for giving Gonzo a big contract? He's going to break most of Sharpe's records playing with NOTHING at QB for most of his career.

The better argument would be that it was stupid for HIM to sign the contract.

Outright lunacy. Worked for the Chargers, Vikes, Steelers, Jags, and Bucs over the last 15 years. And that's without looking. You don't think the Broncos could use 3 new starters on the line?...

Gold is the only LBer since Romo left that would actually make a big play on defense once and awhile.

I'd agree with that. Nobody wants to play on a perennial loser with no shot at a championship.

At least KC knows where Herm is. Oakland can't seem to find Kiffen at the combine. Is there a strip club near the RCA Dome?? :approve:
