View Full Version : Jonathan Vilma Allowed To Seek Trade
Just heard it on NFL Live...no link on ESPN's website. Only said he is allowed to talk with any team but NEHilarious! !! But between Vilma and Robertson I really hope we can get a deal done with the Jets and get some of their pieces that don't fit their 3-4.

Does anyone know how the Jets value Vilma? It seems to be pretty common knowledge he has serious injury concerns and is of very little value to the jets 3-4...so can they have all that high of an asking price for him??? Walker for Vilma straight up would seem fair to me.
Or include Robertson and throw a pick in, although again...i have a hard time evaluating a players worth and putting a draft pick value on a player.

Walker for Vilma would make good sense as a player trade, but I don't know if the Jets would like the contract trade. If Walker agrees to restructure with a new team, something might get done.

Yeah I wouldn't just say not to a Walker for Vilma trade. Swapping injuries essentially.

i could very well see a multi player deal going on here....robertson and vilma for walker + player/2nd or 3rd pick

This is the deal we should make. It's our only chance of getting anything of value in return for Walker.
Swap one bum knee for another. Even he only stays healthy for a season, it would get Javon off the books and give us a year to develop Ezra Butler.

ya, seems to make a lot of sense for both sides. It just depends on how players are valued and what the difference between sides comes out to be in terms of draft picks...

the players are about equal i would say, though i think javon has more upside. if we could get both players for javon and a 2nd id say pull the trigger asap.
Anyone know a lot about Robertson? He was a high draft pick who has been durable...has he lived up to expectations? strengths/weaknesses? good character?

He has played in every game so far in the NFL except last season so I wouldn't say out the wazoo. If he is checked out and can get him on the cheap which it seems like you could than I'd be for it.

Pats not permissible
Jonathan Vilma | Jets
The Jets have given Vilma permission to seek a trade, but there's one catch -- he's not allowed to negotiate with New England, according to the Boston Globe.
The New York Daily News reported last week that the Jets have given Vilma permission to shop himself, noting he must first find a team willing to give him a new deal. If the 25-year-old linebacker is able to accomplish that, the Jets would then begin trade negotiations.

If the Jets knew that he was injury prone, then they would let him negotiate with NE. They are not. That tells me a lot about how healthy he is and how much they think he can contribute to his next team.

Give me Robertson over Rogers.

I don't think shanahan is going to oblige your wishes...unfortunately.

To be honest, I haven't watched Robertson at all, but I've read a couple of things that said character isn't an issue. He was drafted as a 4-3 DT, but when NYJ switched to a 3-4 he, along with Vilma, became bad fits for the defense. Robertson still started at NT and his numbers were actually better than I thought: 57 tackles, 36 solo, with 4 sacks. From all indications he can penetrate a little bit and would be a good fit for Slowik's defense. He'd be a better option than 90% of the guys available right now, but his biggest problem is his contract. He has a lot of money due to him and he'd probably have to re-structure to get him here.

Here in NY there were talks during the last offseason that he would be cut because he does not fit the 3-4. From seeing him play every year I would say he is decent but nothing special like being the 4th pick in the draft and all that money. Him and Vilma aren't bad players at all they are just 4-3 guys.

I remember seeing Robertson in his rookie season, and he was already dominant. I can't remember who the Jets were playing, but Robertson was in the backfield on every snap. I vividly remember thinking how much I wished the Broncos had drafted him.
How about Walker, Gold, and a 4th for Vilma and Roberston?
does gold have any value in the 3-4? (i know he doesn't have a lot of value anywhere, but just wondering how his game fits and if the jets could use him)

Gold would be even worse in a 3-4 formation.
