RAIDERS SHOPPING MICHAEL HUFF by Michael David Smith

The Oakland Raiders are sniffing around to gauge interest in a potential trade involving safety Michael Huff, a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT.

Huff, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, has started all 32 games of his NFL career and would be a solid addition to any team that needs help at safety. Like all Top 10 picks, however, Huff has a hefty contract that would be a factor in any trade.

As Jay Glazer of Fox reported early in the 2007 season (and as PFT noted at the time), the Raiders were calling teams in September and saying most of their defensive players, including Huff, were available via trade. After taking defensive backs in the first round of five of the last seven NFL drafts, the Raiders may feel that they've invested too many resources at that position.

The Raiders also reportedly believe Huff hasn't tapped his potential, so if there's a team out there that thinks it can tap Huff's potential, this is a trade that could make sense.

A straight swap for Warren should do it and Al can keep his draft pick.

Didn't they pass on Jay Cutler to take Huff?

TheDave

Heh... and they could of drafted Cutler instead.

Edit: (OMFG i'm thinking like Bob... someone shoot me)

It's hard to say much without knowing what their asking price is. Either way... once a Raider, always a Raider. No thanks.

Depends on the price. He's been healthy his entire career, no injury issues, It's somebody we could use.

what I would do: ask an NFC team to trade for him for a high 4th round pick, and then trade our next year's 3rd with the NFC team for Huff. That way, we get a nice safety, the NFC team gets a higher pick for doing basically nothing, and the raiders are nicely raped. Sounds about right.

If I could, I would make you GM.

That would be correct.

4th rounder for Michael Huff? Highly doubt it. Somebody is going to give up a 2nd round for him. Safety doesn't have a lot of depth this draft.

Al wouldn't trade him to Denver anyway or SD or KC for that matter.

yeah, thats being very very optimistic. But then again Detroit only wants a future 2nd for Roy Williams, so anything is possible.

Hence my NFC run-around idea.

Michael Huff would be PERFECT for us!! A young, impact safety is exactly what we need, but we should be realistic: Offer them a 2nd + 6th (or 3rd + 4th) plus Ian Gold ... in exchange for Michael Huff and Gerard Warren. That would actually be a good deal.

The Dave ... don't feel badly, everybody thinks about that Fader bonehead passover of Cutler (and Leinert) whenever they hear the name 'Michael Huff,' it's not just Boobster. The Huff pick, coupled with the Cutler/Leinert passover, was the reason behind Al firing Art Shell, screaming that he'd "set the franchise back a decade!"

Again, I call for league intervention. Some kind of force majuere rule that says once an owner crosses the line from reality to senility, then big trades and coach firings have to be okayed by some independent boad. For the good of the league. Al Davis is completely out of control ... this Huff drafting and now trading, failing to sign JaMarcus, wanting to fire yet another head coach, many many other things.

The pavement below looks very inviting to me in light of your proposal, Senator.

I know you love picks, Counsel ... but I'm not sure why you're against this idea. Basically, we'd get Gerard Warren back by returning the pick they gave us last year. NO WAY ON EARTH that's a bad idea ... DT is our #1 roster need, and with Bates gone, Gerard fits in again (and remember he was all class on the way out the door)

Plus - a 2nd rounder and Ian Gold for Michael Huff. Huff was a #7 overall draft pick just two years ago ... and S (along with OT) is the #2 position of need on our roster. So ... what's not to like? ???

How would you tap him?

Unless you believe the 2nd + 5th round picks I propose will help us more than Michael Huff and Gerard Warren?

That's pretty good logic right there ... a good Milton Friedman cost-benefit analysis

Nice, maybe we can trade our 5th for Gerard Warren!

I'd take Gwar back :) I was pretty impressed with the way he actually didn't talk smack about Shanny after being traded. Also I just thought up the nickname Gwar for him and and I think it's awesome.

GWAR ... cool. Sounds like GORT from 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' ...

He looks like he'd be an excellent DT

Atlas

I don't know if you could actually call Gwar a band. I think that would be stretching it.

ummm... extend my arm and make contact with the ends of my nails?

I mean, he may be on the brink of redeeming himself by escaping Oakland, but at this moment he IS still a Raider...

(And you will note, ladies and gentlemen, that at no time do my fingers actually leave my hands!) :-)

Good Lord, Atlas, the memories that photo brings back. I actually went to one of their shows several years ago. Pure insanity, like KISS with more profanity, gore, and a giant foam rubber dinosaur that they decapitated on stage.

And if you like thrash metal, the music wasn't entirely awful either. I've heard a lot worse, and some of it on label releases.

Those silly Raiders. This is the fallout of coaching turnover every year. There is no consistency. I would take Huff for one of our fourths, though. ;D

As I said before I think he should be crowned the WORST owner in league history
