Then Ryan Clady of Boise State and Anthony Collins of Kansas were added to the mix when the underclassmen declared. Offensive line coaches drooled at the prospects. Clady played left and right tackle in Boise State's creative passing offense. He also seems to have a sense of where he fits in as an NFL tackle.
"We were primarily a zone team, and I'm kind of like a Denver Broncos-type offensive lineman,'' Clady said. "We cut a lot and position block and stuff like that."

I think Clady would be a great pick at #12, but I don't think he'll get out of the top 10.
If he's there at #12, I don't think the Broncos would be on the clock very long.

I think there are 4-5 OTs exactly like Clady in this draft. Cherilus, Otah, Williams, etc... No way do I want him at 12. Nothing against him, but the overall OT talent is down this year. Now there are a bunch of solid prospects at about the same level, but Clady at 12 isn't a reach. He got pushed around more than he should have in the WAC...besides even though I'm no fan of Harris, I see Clady as a slightly bigger clone of him.

He's not really saying that he likes Denver as a team. He is just saying that in college he played Zone Blocking and that's what Denver does in making a comparison of the two.

Every player likes every team at this time of the year. They want drafted as early as possible so everyone is a great team.
It's kinda like the Mcfadden deepthroating thread they were doing where he talked about the Broncos but then the next day he started talking about how it'd be an honor to play for the Cowboys.

Clady and WIlliams may be similar, but he's really not close to Cherilus or Otah in terms of style. Also, don't confuse the lack of a sure-fire #1 OT and the great depth at the position as a weakness. It actually speaks to the strength of this OT class. While there is no sure-fire #1 like Joe Thomas (Jake Long may get there with good workouts), there are about 4 or 5 players in this class who are better than Levi Brown, last year's #2 OT.

Jake Long would have went ahead of Joe Thomas last year... Make no mistake, this year's crop of OT's is INCREDIBLE. Levi Jones would have went behind Jake Long, Ryan Clady, and Jeff Otah in this class. Last year he was a top 10 pick.
Due to the position, I seriously doubt Clady or Long fall to 12. Otah may. Williams, Baker, and Cherilus will.
The good news, a guy like McFadden could certainly fall in our lap at #12 and then we hit pay dirt (if we want) and trade for the Cowboys #1's!!!
Then we can end up with both Rivers and Williams or Connor and Williams!

Just curious: why does everyone talk like Dallas will give up its 2 number ones for our 12? One, they need CB and WR - and they are sitting in a perfect spot to get one each of those where they sit. Secondly, what's so magic about #12? Why don't they trade to #10, or 14? Third, are they going to really give up that premium amount that doesn't work out even close on a trade chart? (1440 points for 1200)
Now might something like that happen? Maybe. (But for at least these 3 reasons above, I doubt it.) When I hear it so often it sounds like there's a deal in place I haven't heard about yet.

the overall OT talent is down this year.
Mayock proclaimed it the best class in 10 years. 6 with first round grades.
I'd take Chris Williams easily and be happy. The kid can ball. He has great feet, good punch and he is ultra consistent. He's the complete opposite of what George Foster was. The only knocks on him is that he has shorter arms than most of the other guys at his position and he isn't a physical run blocker. Well, if he was a right tackle that would concern me HOWEVER he is a premium level LT and his great feet and technique will mean that his arm length won't make a difference in this league.

He is also very smart, a solid citizen and a great leader. Just what the doctor ordered.

Not according to Kevin Colbert:
Pittsburgh Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert said Thursday, Feb. 21, that the offensive tackle class is the best group he has seen collectively in about 24 years. Colbert said it was a strong draft class before the juniors that declared for the draft entered and said it is very unusual to have guys that big and athletic be able to play on the left or right side of the line.
CBF1 loves Denver as well. I hope Shanny reads this and drafts me :)

I made blueberry pancakes from scratch today! :)
And I just wanted to say how disappointed I was to not see Clady do his thing. I'll have to watch him do stuff on highlight reels which for linemen is next to worthless.

I think Mcfadden is going to be a disappointment in the NFL, and I would definitely take Clady if both were available at #12. I can't see Mcfadden ever being more than a 10-15 carry back at the next level, and a first rounder is an awful lot to invest in 10-15 plays a game. Especially when measured against a guy who would be on the field for every single offensive play.
If Mcfadden were on the board at #12, and we decided, for some inexplicable reason, to go RB I would take Mendenhall. He'll be the best back out of this class.

I think people are just making an assumption based on the rumors of Dallas trading up to #1 overall. If Dallas would give both #1's, additional picks and Marion Barber, then why wouldn't they be willing to give up both #1's for pick #12 and still end up with the same player, McFadden? If he were to fall, it may be somewhat plausible, but I agree, what makes #12 the magic number? If the trade were offered to NE, NO or Buffalo before us, I think they'd all take it in a heartbeat. Baltimore and Cinci may well take it too, depending on who else is on the board.

I saw that Ryan Clady injured a pectoral muscle at the combine and could not complete his workout, but should be available to complete the workout at the Boise St. Pro day.
I was taking a nap and it came to me in a dream.
With the 12th pick in the 2008 draft, The Denver Bronco's select Darrick Harvey, DE Florida.
I could see this happening for some reason... at his size (291lbs) he could play both DE and DT

I still want to see what the deal is with this guy. His playing weight was more around the 255-260 range and I'd never seen anything on him about 291 until the combine. Something just doesn't seem right there...

I'm pretty sure the 291 was an error. It's since been updated to 271.

Haha... what turds. The NFLN folks where talking about all the versatility he has now that he's as big as he is. 271 is more manageable and while it's still a bit above his playing weight, it'd be acceptable. The 291 had me floored.
Oh, and 271 is still not much of an increase over the guys we currently have for DEs. I can't see him as a legit candidate, at all.

I think Harvey could really end up as a Reggie Hayward type of player. He's pretty good, and has a good motor, but he's not elite. He should make someone a really good DE in a couple years, but no way he's a first round talent. He'll e a good pickup in the bottom of the second, or even better in the third.

Yeah, there were a lot of people scratching their heads. There's really no way that could've been good weight at 291 and would have been a huge jump in just a couple of months.

I want us to trade down 3-4 spots and take Williams (if he is there, think he goes ahead of clady) or take clady/otah. I dont think Clady is worth 12 esp. since I hear he didnt do well at all at combine and he played in the wac.

Clady didn't do well at the combine because he pulled a muscle on the BP, the initial exercise. Wait for his pro-day. From the sounds of it, Otah may be the only one not worthy of 12. I'd be OK with Williams or Clady, I think.
I still wish Jake Long would fall though, why couldn't he have shown up fat...
