I said when someone first brought it up, that's a risk you don't want to take. A pissed off Moss can be terrible for your organization and so far the Pats have been admired for their ability to bring out the most in Moss. To say "you're stuck here but we're not giving you the big contract you want" would be flirting with disaster.

I disagree. a pissed of Moss, who is pissed at the Patriots might work his ass off to show it wasn't a fluke season.
if he would come here for a contract similar to TO's in dallas. a 3 year deal that basically gave the team outs with him every season, we have the best WR corps in the league

no more character issues is my stance...

not to mention Moss will cost more than we should be paying a WR right now...

maybe. he wanted to play in denver last year maybe he will still want to come here in a reasonable contract.
any receiver in the league knows that Cutler has the arm to drop a deep ball perfectly into his hands. Plus if Shanny can keep his attitude in check, it would be worth it because the offense would probably shatter New Cheatland's point record in a season.
THink about it, a legit number 1 receiver in Marshall who can catch almost anything and who's potential is limitless, a deep threat in Moss, and the best slot receiver in the league in stokely. and a badass TE in Scheff add in a good running game and even if your defense is giving up 28 points a game it won't matter because that offense will kill all

I'm not sure, but when i read that I heard:

Marshall = "legit #1...can catch almost everything...potential is limitless"
Stokley = "best slot receiver in the league"
Scheffler = "badass TE"

and

Randy Moss = "a deep threat"

WTF????

Dude set an NFL record for TD catches in a season last year and in Denver he would amount to "a deep threat."

Wake the F up. Randy Moss is going to get PAID. Like Ta-Dow type paid. He's also the best receiver in the NFL, the same NFL that includes Brandon Marshall.

The funny thing is that even though I think you epically understated Randy Moss's worth, I don't want him. We don't need such an expensive WR that is a potential head case. We have much greater areas of need.

i was simply stating what he would be used as mainly in denver

If Moss is available I hope Shanny signs him.

Why? Simple. Moss is the best WR in football - no ifs and or buts.

The broohaa about his character are nothing but BS -- as Moss showed this past year.

Imagine Moss on one side -- Marshall on the other.

Also imagine a stud LT who can pass protect Cutler -- give our young QB an extra 1-2 seconds per play to find the open receiver.

Now -- that would be something to see.

Maybe..but we'd better be scoring a 40 spot every game.

Yep, since we cant stop anyone.

The Pats had him with a better QB, far better protection, better defence, better receivers and still could be stopped. But in Denver Moss makes us unstoppable

Thanks, but not thanks. There are areas of far greater need in which money needs to be spent.

PS Anyone who thinks Moss would give up millions to play with the great JC needs to put the pipe down and slowly step away

yeah and also imagine a defense that still can't stop anyone because we poured too much of our financial resources into one player thus preventing us from upgrading our front seven...

no thanks...

I think the word is this is just a technicality. Something about only being able to re-work your contract once per year (is that correct?). Anyway, word is they just have to wait until April when the year is up, and he already has a verbal agreement with the Pats. I don't think he is going anywhere.

I don't buy that Moss has a verbal agreement. I had a feeling before the SB that Moss felt like he was playing his last game. If NE wasn't going to use the tag anyways, why not tag Moss now and sign him to the long term in April so that it doesn't look like they had a wink, wink, nod, nod deal going on.

I honestly think Moss wants a championship ring. Where else would he sign if that is his real goal (within the next 2 years)? The team likes him and wants to feature him, and just made him an all time NFL record breaker. Where else can he feed his ego?

He's staying in NE.

Waste of a thread and responses considering the Pats have already agreed a long-term deal with him. They're just waiting to release the likes of Stallworth/Washington to clear around $10m in room.

Why tag a guy you already have a verbal agreement with. If you can't count on his word then you don't want him your team.

As they guy said earlier in the thread. You don't want a pissed off or disinterested Randy Moss on your team.

Placing the franchise tag only creates bad feelings & the Pats know that.

Now in the some players cases you will live the the consequences.

With Randy Moss, you make him happy or you let him leave.

They couldn't use the tag cos they only had $2m or so in cap room before they dump Stallworth and Kelley Washington's contracts on Monday which was after the Franchise deadline.

I understand you wouldn't want to piss him off but I just wonder what happens now if Moss waits and signs on with the Pats in April... The NFLPA presumably wouldn't be very fond of it if he had already agreed verbally to wait until they could resign him. They put that rule in place to protect players so when a player circumvents it... it may just be frowned upon. Had they been able to tag him temporarily, they could've made it look as if they tagged him while negotiating a long term deal and noone could've proven any prearranged deals had been negotiated.

I think your thinking to hard on this one. Randy Moss can't formally agree to a contract until Feb. 29. Your only allowed to restruture your contract once a year.

He redid his contract to come to the Patriots & the new year doesn't technically start until the 29th.
