Ah, Sire Solomon, once again you have raised the bar. I agree I have to go with the classic.

I am not a huge star trek fan - but Mccoy always seemed to haunt me when i watched that show.

I had a 12th Grade english teacher who was a ringer for McCoy....no lie.
There used to be a lot of "Dammit Jim, I'm an english teacher not a miracle worker!" thrown about.
As for Star Trek itself....I like the old originals, but lost interest in the Next Generation and all the Deep Space Nine stuff after that. I have yet to see any of the movies either. One day, I'm just gonna rent them all and watch them in order.

Some tips for you:
Star Trek:The Motion Picture- Not even worth watching, and it might turn you off to watching the other five (which would be a huge shame). Very boring, very long.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan- Excellent film, best action and adventure film of the series.
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock- Solid film. Some good action and adventure stuff sneaking out the Enterprise, battling Klingons, Spock's regeneration etc..
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home- Best comedy/funniest of all the films. It's pretty funny seeing the Star Trek crew go back in time to 1986 San Francisco. Very enjoyable.
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier- Kind of weak. Nowhere near as bad as the motion picture though.
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country- Pretty good film with some intrigue as well as action.
General Trends: As you can see, the even numbered films are alot better than the odd numbered ones (but III is the exception, its good). There is really no point at all to watch I. Watching II-VI straight is great (and in fact, you HAVE to watch II, III and IV together, they are the "Genesis trilogy", they all revolve around the same same story and each evolves from the previous one....whereas I, V and VI don't really evolve from any prior film).
