The Bears did not exercise their option on DT Darwin Walker, making him a free agent.

This definitely helps us. There is now a second legitimate option at the DT spot in free agency. I would be all for signing him.

After that whole debacle last year with Buffalo and trades being negated and then traded again... etc... I don't want another bad taste in my mouth if this year's FAs started causing a headache again. Good guys or nothing this year. No drama please...

No free agents, please! I'm for them blowing up the high priced guys and getting back to the draft. We'd probably fair better than anyone thinks we would.

No to Darwin Walker...
Frankly, i don't see the guy as much of a penetrator...
i think thats what we need in a DT right now...

Wrong, Corey Williams is a good product, young guy and a hard worker.
Sign him and draft a guy like Red Bryant to play the nose as well in round 2 of the draft and DT goes from our biggest weakness to a pretty good strength with Thomas, Bryant, Williams, and McKinley.

Pass. Every cent of salary cap space should be reserved to eat the dead cap room of Walker, Henry, Gold, Bly, etc.

I agree on Williams. He isn't the fastest (5.22 40) guy on the field, but he gets the job done. Also, as you have already stated, he is young and a hard worker.

So true. The guy has worked himself into what he is today, which is a young player on the verge of being very good and going to a few pro bowls.
The thing I think is funny is a sentiment that the coaches, FO, owner and now fans are echoing.
"Let's not spend money on free agents, more often than not they turn into busts... lets build through the draft."
The NFL is littered with teams that have successfully used free agency to better their team. The problem with Denver and the people that are saying these things now is that we have signed $hitheads for years and we don't even try to hide it. Shanahan thinks that because he hands out 2nd chances like presents on Christmas that people are going to respond to that and have his back to make him look good... it hasn't happened, not once for us. Gardener, Carter, Walker, and even Henry now. There are many others.
If the guy had disputes/problems in his last city, he's probably going to bring that baggage with him to the next stop. We need to go for less name recognition, skip the head cases and just sign solid guys.
Corey Williams would be one of those solid players.

I don't think we need Walker, he basically plays the same position as Marcus Thomas as the interior pass rusher. I'd rather sign Ian Scott who's a good run stopper and would do a decent job of keeping our LBers free. Only a year ago there were several teams like the Pats/Eagle who were very interested in him but he was in IR last year so his value is going to be very low.
I don't really care who we sign as long as we get some able bodies at DT. What we had on the field last season was pathetic.
