I got a 42" Hitachi Plasma that was on clearance at Sears in Nov. It is 1080p and my PS3 Blueray is sweet. Nothing really out in Blueray at blockbuster yet and I still have not received the 5 movies I was promised with the PS3...

I am just glad I got the TV for $1k + 349 for the 3 year support...

Only way to go. Dont spend a lot on HDMI cables. I saw an article in the Chicago Trib a few weeks back that had a link to some web store that sold them for like $9.99. I wussed out and paid $40 for the Dynex at Best Buy for convienece. No way I was spending $90 for gold plated Monster cable when it does not need gold plating to work.

Do any of you have HD programming? Who do you use? I have Dish atm, but they want like 40$ to hook up, 25$ extra a month, then 40$ if you cancel, and in 6months the 25 turns into 35$.....thats too much. My contract is up in June, I have been looking at Direct and Bresnin(sp) and Comcast(i think thats name lol) Anyways anyones help would be great!

I think there are a lot more channels in HD than what you're thinking. I recently called Dish Network and told them that I didn't want to pay the $20 a month for the extras so long as I had my local channels in HD. Well, after about a month of only having the locals, I've found that I miss the other HD channels as well. Stuff like the NFL Network, ESPN, ESPN 2, TNT, Spike, TBS, and all of the SciFi/Learning/TLC/Discovery type channels... I used to watch those in HD a lot more than I realized. Oh well, we're watching less and less TV and that trend will continue through the summer... at least until football season! Hopefully by football season I'll have my home theatre up and running. 110" screen and a 1080p LCD projector should make for some fun Sunday's!!! I almost bought a 2nd PS3 in anticipation today but figured I should probably wait, though it would be nice to hook up to the Sharp Aquos in my Bedroom. Speaking of which, I'm not nearly as impressed with the Sharp LCD as I am my Philips Plasma. Could be the signal and I've not yet tried to pick up HD over the air... maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

Very nice! The DLP sets are nice. I had an LG (first big screen ever) and liked it until it starting have some problems. In hindsight it wasn't a very bright TV... not like my Plasma or LCD.

Anybody else on here have an Ambilight set? I LOVE mine.

I picked up the 50" Sony Bravia and have been loving it ever since. Now I'm torn between the PS3 or the 360. Which to buy? The blu-ray player in the ps3 would be nice but since the format war is all but settled I expect the prices on stand alone blu-ray players to begin dropping considerably. So that renders that point a bit moot. 360 (so I've been told) has the online gameplay functionality seriously lacking in ps3. Ultimately the question is the games. Which has the best games? As far as I can tell on 360 the top games are all shooters, which is fine. Except when you finally tire of 1st person shooters. I'm still trying to figure out what ps3 has.

Same question i asked myself.

A friend of mine plays his 360 elite all day and night, and was begging me to buy a 360.

But, i wanted the PS3 because we were planning on getting a new TV.

And the Bluray player is a nice feature.

And the PS3 online is free, but its not nearly as good as XBox.

I think I'm going with the 360. I just saw some footage from Silicon Knights' "Too Human". I loved that studio. Eternal Darkness, Sanity's Requiem was AWESOME! I loved the concept, the style, the design, and the game play. It was a tad clunky at times but not so much as to detract from the game. Too Human looks like they've come up with another winner. I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and go Wii60 in my gaming setup.

I have all 3 systems...I play my 360 everyday. Wii sometimes, more for family. PS3, I havent played since I bought it in Dec, but with Metal Gear 4, Haze, FF13, Socom, Resistance 2, and Killzone 2 all coming out this year it will be used a lot more. I would still go with the 360 if I was buying any of the 3. It has a ton of FPS, better online, a good amount of RPG, and it is getting ALL the RTS (like 6 this year, Halo Wars, Command & Con, Civ etc.) and it also has exclusives Gears 1, Gears 2 (this nov), Halo 3, Bioshock, fable 2, Too Human, and Mass Effect. Cant beat that line up.

I don't think you can get a Bluray for Xbox. I know the HD-DVD drive was an option for purchase though. At any rate, I'll probably buy a stand alone bluray player when those prices come down in the next 8-12 months or so.

I'm going to stimulate the economy because I'm a good American consumer. That and I have a kid now so my "going out" budget quickly became my "staying home" budget.

Microsoft May Release Blu-Ray Drive for Xbox 36.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 May Get External Blu-Ray Drive
Category: Multimedia
by Anton Shilov
[ 01/12/2006 | 11:10 PM ]
Microsoft Corp.’s representative said in an interview with a Japanese web-site that the company’s approach to the next-generation DVD drive in the Xbox 360 console will allow the software giant to offer both Blu-ray and HD DVD external optical drives. While the intention of the company was not set in stone, the stance is pretty unusual for an HD DVD supporter.

“At present time, considering such part [external optical drive], Microsoft selects HD DVD. But since it is unknown whether HD DVD and Blu-ray wins [the format battler], we took the form, external drive, which allows us to change in future situations,” said Peter Moore, head of the Microsoft interactive entertainment division in an interview with ITmedia web-site.

The Xbox 360 external HD DVD drive is promised to be available in 2006. Besides, the company indicated that more than 50 new high-definition Xbox 360 games would be available by June 2006. The new drive will offer Xbox 360 owners the ability to easily enjoy HD DVD movies and will provide consumers with even more choices for experiencing high-definition content, in either physical or digital form, the company indicated.

It is unknown how much the external HD DVD or Blu-ray drives will cost end-users, but it is likely that the device will not be too expensive. Sony PlayStation 3, the arch-rival for the Xbox 360, will also be equipped with competing Blu-day disc format. It is possible that a combination of the Xbox 360 and external next-gen DVD drivez will be priced at the same point as the PlayStation 3.

Microsoft Xbox 360 console is based around microprocessor developed by IBM, high-definition visual processing unit designed by ATI Technologies, I/O controller engineered by SiS and some other key components. The gaming machine will provide a broad set of multimedia capabilities in addition to games. Depending on the bundle, Microsoft Xbox 360 costs $299 or $399.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Micro$oft make that move. It would be savvy. On the other hand they may find in market research that by the time they can get an external blu-ray to market for the 360 that their target demo has already, or is more willing, to go out and buy a stand alone BRP.

Just a reminder to you all, HD DVD stuff is dirt cheap right now. Some movies only came out on HDDVD, certain studios and stuff. I know they will rerelease on blu ray, but circuit city has a HD DVD player for 99.00 and you get 5 HDDVDs. And all the other hddvds will be dirt cheap soon.
