I found this article on a new helmet (pic half way down the page) that is being developed.

I seriously doubt it ever sees the field. That is one hideous looking helmet.

You paint it up right and after a couple games you probably wouldn't notice. And it'll take a lot more than a fancy helmet to protect Chiefs qbs this year.

i actually like it. It's kinda streamline, yet still aggressive looking.

Personally, I find the Revolution helmets that many find so hideous to be pretty cool looking, but that is one ugly-ass helmet.

If players wouldn't lead with their helmets and see what they hit, wrap up, rather than trying to blow up...

If they are proven to curb the rate of concussions, NFL players would be fools not to wear them because they look different.

That's Blubba Paris. He was one of the first to try the "Great Gazoo" helmets with the extra padding. Guess it didn't hold up well. You almost never see them anymore.

Irv Brown always said it best that paralasys and concussions didn't become widespread and severe until they started wearing helmets. he says they should go back to leather helmets or none. It will reduce the ferocity of the hits. He kind of has a point.

I'm not sure why players *wouldn't* wear it. Who cares what it looks like. The only thing I'd care about (if it were my cranium on the line) is whether it protects my bean...

Used to call them the "Kelso" helmet....I haven't seen one of those bubbleheaded things in years.
Probably don't see them much anymore because they couldn't find a way to cyber them up any or find a way to market them much if the truth is known.

Actually, not such a bad idea. I vividly remember the one drill we used to do in high school that really drove home the point of seeing what you're hitting. Our coach would make us do live full speed tackling drills without our helmets. It only took you dropping your head once to figure out it was much better to see what you were hitting.
Probably not the safest drill, but definitely effective.LOL

Probably because, as the NFL's first international franchise, The Buffalo-Toronto Bills are now seen as being cutting edge.......::)

Why is the face mask a different color from the rest of the helmet, paint to blend in and you probably couldn't tell the difference unless you looked real close.
Honesty, if it truly is safer then I think a player should be able to wear it no matter how ugly it looks. Less concussions = a very good thing.

Problem there is correlation vs causation. There also weren't 300 pound linemen with speed as a matter of course...with attendant bigger and faster folk behind them.

Tell that to the 19 guys who died nationwide in 1905 playing American football.
Though legalizing the forward pass, eliminating the flying wedge, and making sure there were down lineman seemed to do the most to bring the deaths down.
