View Full Version : Miami has informed Zach Thomas they will release him
Miami has informed perennial Pro Bowl linebacker Zach Thomas they will release him Thursday, FOXSports.com has learned.
Thomas, like the rest of the Dolphins, suffered through a miserable 2007 season. He suffered a concussion on the field and injuries in a car accident that limited his play.
After missing several games, the Dolphins finished Thomas' season for him when they placed him on injured reserve in December.
Thomas instantly became a fan favorite his rookie year and went on to become one of the league's most well-known tackling machines.
In the last couple of months, Thomas has told FOXSports.com he thought his release was imminent due to his salary. However, Thomas also said that he is not ready to hang up the cleats.
Thomas played in just five games in 2007, recording 52 tackles and one sack. The Dolphins finished the season with a 1-15 record.

Just saw the news........And let the posting begin!!!!!
IMHO, Thomas at this stage of his career is nothing more than a stop gap, and really would have been a much better move last year for the Broncos than this year, especially considering familiarity w/Bate's scheme.

Did anyone get the feeling the Pats were licking their chops when they heard an old fart LB like Thomas would be available?

Just what we need...another old linebacker!

I wish! :giggle:
Never know a trade could happen, but Denver needs outside backer and O-line more than D-End.

And yet, the Patriots were one game from a perfect season (albeit, they lost in the one game that matters). You have to blend youth with experience. Shanahan TRIED to do that with Simeon Rice and Sam Adams(which didn't turn out very well). However, this may be the answer we are seeking at MLB until a new player is groomed in that position.

Man the NFL is a cold-hearted business.
I like watching Zach play, but concussions for a linebacker are scary.
It would be crazy to but all you're eggs in a Zach basket and have them crushed by an other concussion and still have a hole to fill.

Who said anything about putting all of your eggs in a Zach basket? Does that mean that we'd be putting all of our eggs in a Winborn basket if DJ moves back to outside linebacker. Zach isn't going to get 5 a year anywhere he signs. It'd be worth the risk in my opinion. Then again, i wish we could have just kept Al, but whatever. The real issue on this defense is not the linebackers anyway, so whether we get him or not we still need to upgrade you know what...

There are a lot of playersin the NFL I'd rather have than Taylor. Hopefully DE will be a Bronco strength. Lots of youth and promise there. I'd rather have Karlos Dansby or Lance Briggs.
