I can't wait!

I thought the trailer was kinda weak though.

What is your favorite film of the first three? I gotta go with, Last Crusade.

I love TLC. That was my favorite movie as a kid. Everything about that movie ruled.

I love the IJ series, but the trailer didn't do much for me. My favorite is the first movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark. Awesome flick!

The only one that I actually liked was the Raiders of the Lost Arc. The rest seemed like formulaic rip-offs to me.

The first Raiders of the Lost Ark was the standard bearer for that franchise. The Temple of Doom and the Last Crusade were inferior products. Having said that, the nostalgic factor will probably drive me into the theater for this one...

I liked all of them, though Last Crusade is probably my favorite for the way Sean Connery played off Ford. Regardless, this one looks pretty fun.

Lost me the moment he jumped into the jeep. Can't wait to see Jar Jar show up in this one.

Raiders of the Lost Ark was the best. The Last Crusade was next. I loved all the Indiana movies and dressed up like him when I was 8 even had my own bull whip and yea baby it was a real bull whip.

Whoo!

I hope that they dont ruin this with scenes that are uncharacteristic. Some of those in the clip were a little over the top.

Just FYI, the guy that Indy is based on is named Vendel Jones.

He's a Biblical Archaeologist who has spent most of his time in Israel working with the Jewish Antiquities people.

What makes you say that?

Everything I've watched and read says Indy is based on pulp serial characters of the 30s/40s/50s.

How could anything be over the top after Temple of Doom?

Oh, he is so old. How come Sean Connery looks younger than him?

That's mainly because Raiders actually defined what the formula was.

But yeah, I think Raiders was the best of the three.

actually, you're wrong. spielberg and lucas directly denied vendel jones' claim:

Texas Monthly reported that "Lucas and Spielberg say they've never heard of Vendyl Jones" adding that a representative from LucasFilms, Lynne Hale, stated that George Lucas wrote the original story in 1973, which predates Vendyl Jones' claims by four years (Ibid pp. 117, 143).

Indiana is a professor @ U of Chicago so it's more likely that he was partially based on Robert Braidenwood and/or James Breasted, who were archeologists there during the same time period. they actually had enough notariety to be considered models for the character. Indy was a prof and an action hero, so i think the latter person comes from the aforementioned pulp fiction sources.

I haven't seen an Indy movie in years. Generally liked them all though.

Why do I get the uncanny feeling that you think Indiana Jones being based on a real "biblical" archaeologist somehow gives your superstitions a modicum of validity? You sure seem to be pushing this connection, as trivial as it is.

Oh, and Last Crusade was the best of the three.

You couldnt be further from the truth...not surprising since extreme distance from truth is explicit in your handle, but whatever.

I LOVE the Indy series. I can't wait to see this one, although I'm not getting my hopes up. Last Crusade was my favorite, with Lost Ark right behind it. Temple of Doom was pretty good, too, especially Shorty:

"Okie Dokie, Docta Jones! Hold on to your potatoes!"

I got my son interested in Indy. He is real excited for the new one to come out. There is also a Lego Indiana Jones video game coming out along the same lines as the Lego Star Wars games.

My favorite line was "We named the dog Indiana"

The warehouse looks like the one where the Ark was stored at the end of the first movie. I wonder if that is somehow the start of the movie or some little subplot at the beggining for closure as to what happened to the Ark.

Yep. This Vendyl guy has nothing to do with it.

Indiana was the name of Lucas' dog and Spielberg changed the character's last name from Smith to Jones.
