View Full Version : Is it possible for Huckabee to beat McCain?
It’s a number’s game – I get it, and some of you guys may have looked at teh numbers and "know" it is impossible. But I am always skeptical when we are being told there is no chance/choice. With southern states he has won, and more to come, and with some conservatives being unable to pull the lever for anyone Huckabee may pull off the near impossible.
Understand guys – I dislike the Huckster, and can not vote for someone who I believe has some bigotry issues -- but pointing out that with a recent Kansas win, he might surprise. If Huckabee takes Virginia coming up – McCain may be in for a fight. Either way, The R’s will loose this time around – I don’t see McCain taking enough moderates to compensate for the conservative votes he has lost. So if the “choice and cure” in McCain, is too much like the Dem plan (as he kicks open the border, so Spider can drive side by side with more uninsured, unlicensed illegals in his new home of Texas) – he will serve to water down the Elephant party further, kind of like an incremental path to hell – and see a Dem win as creating contrast as some ideas are implemented. If conservatives keep electing people who say there are conservatives, but are not we end up taking the country in the same wrong direction (in my humble opinion.)

It's POSSIBLE Huckabee can win, but he ABSOLUTELY has to take Texas March 4th. If he doesn't, look for him to bow out the next day (if he hasn't already).

Wish he would contrast himself with McCain (if there are subtaintail differences.) instead of kissing butt for VP.

I agree. He needs to outline why he's more conservative than John McCain. We know he's a religious man, but he'll go down in flames if that's all the ammo he has...

No, it's not possible in the primaries. It is possible that McCain doesn't collect enough delegates to get the nomination - in which case it would go to a brokered convention. McCain would be seriously damaged for that brokered convention and wouldn't likely get the nomination at that point.

The math breaks down that he has to win about 90% of all votes in the remaining states.
Saying McCain can't win the general election is premature, we are yet to see what Swift Boat plan the have ready for Obama their preferred opponent.

Backroom deals, threats & promises, arm-twisting, posturing, payoffs, extortion ... the usual. They just keep going until something gives.

So if the Repubs win, it will have to becuase of some fabricated conspiracy?
Heaven knows, if it is McCain and Hilary they will both do and say what ever they think we want to hear to get power. I hope that Obama can stay above that if nominated...
I dont mind blasting ideas -- but lately there has been bomb dropping just before elections in primaries -- just make up something that is half true, and provide no time for the other guy to respond.

This is just my opinion, but I believe a lot of people will come out of the woodwork to vote against Hillary. I'm not sure the same will happen if Obama gets the nod.
I just think that if Obama is the candidate, he's in. The number of young people supporting him is pretty amazing.

Hilarious! wet dream ? alot of Dems I have talked to are excited about both candidates , and just want a democrat in office , lot of moderates really are sick and tired of ****ing republicans and they want a change , be it either Hillary or Obama .. alot of truckers will vote for the first mother ****er that can lower fuel prices no matter who it is ...... Now i get around alot , make it point to talk to alot of people all over about how they feel about Candidates and Issues ..... no suprises , young people Iraq is an issue , middleaged people , healthcare , taxes , Economy , Truckers ,fuel prices .... A buddy of mine Red is his name from Nebraska told me flat out the Rep Caucus was small compared ot the Dems caucus ..... People are turning out in droves for the Dems

Global cooling is something you pulled out of your ass ( remember me saying you cant fix stupid ? ) it was an Ice age that was coming .. now you convince me Nixon didnt create the EPA , and the EPA didnt put in steps to stop the ice age , doesnt matter if the threat was real , what Iam trying to say to you is , the EPA acted on the threat .........

Now it doesnt matter if the Ice age was comming or not , what does matter is the EPA was created , and the EpA took steps to prevent a ice age , or anything close to it ......I dont know why I am trying , I know you cant fix stupid but I try
HMM...I guess Spider got caught up to speed on the DNC memo on climate change.Ha!
But you said this-
Richard Nixon legacy will always be tainted for watergate , but Nixon did alot of good things ...... Unlike Bush
Did a lot of good things? Like the EPA saving us from the Ice Age?Ha!

I don't need to convince you anything Spider. Clearly the Diesel fumes you inhale everyday leave you with less and less brain cells to operate with. ROFL!
You said yourself when I asked you to prove that Nixon stopped the global cooling er the looming Ice Age. He didn't stop squat is my point, but you went ahead and said that Nixon did a lot of good things in the White House despite the Watergate scandal. Thus indicating that you think Nixon's EPA Policies were good. You can't fix your spelling, so why are you able to fix stupid?

I don't know whether anyone can make a bold claim like he saved the planet from Global Cooling or anything like that. That requires alot of speculation about alot of information that we do not have. What we do know is that his policies helped the environment in general on a TREMENDOUS level.
He had announced 36 different environmental initiatives in his 1970 State of the Union speech and Congress acted on a number of them. As Spider noted, he had set up the EPA (this is not just a "liberal" thing, this has conservative appeal as well for you: At the time, national environmental policy on the federal level was very inefficient and duplicative, there were 44 different agencies in 9 different departments dealing with these issues, there was a clear need to consolidate and centralize these things in one agency for efficiency as well as other benefits) and also the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). If we are going to talk about the atmosphere and pollution issues, remember he also approved the 1970 Clean Air Act amendments, which is one of the landmark pieces of environmental legislation in our history, as it mandated that automobile manufacturers decrease carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions to at least 90 percent of 1970 levels by 1975 (although there was a bit of relaxation of these standards due to the energy crisis in 74-75) and also mandated that the EPA establish national air quality standards for stationary emission sources.
Tons of legislation were also very helpful in a number of areas: two different Endangered Species Acts (1969 and 1973), the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974, the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972, an extensio nof the Solid Waste Disposal Act, the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (technically a 1970 law since it was signed on New Year's Day...mandating for the first time that federal environmental impact statements would be required for all federal projects), the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 (designed to protect estuaries) etc. He also gave the states thousands of acres of federal land to be used for parks as part of the "Legacy of Parks" program, which transferred (according to Melvin Small's policy intensive account of his presidency) over 80,000 acres of land, equating into 642 new parks, in addition to sponsoring the development of the Gateway National Recreation Area in NYC and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in SF.
He also made important contributions in this area internationally: The US hosted the second world conference on Parks in 1972, which resulted in a convention ratified by the US. H ealso signed another international ocean Dumping Convention in 1972. Detente with the USSR also yielded some key environmental achievements: the Seabed Treaty (banning placement of nuclear weapons on the ocean floor) and cooperative agreements on the environment after the Moscow Summit. This whole environmental program actually was not willy nilly liberalism, it was smart, pragmatic and practical too: He also made sure that there would be a cost-benefit analysis calculation applied to environmental measures starting in 1971, and vetoed the Clean Water Act of 1972 because of extreme cost (Nixon was willing to spend 6 billion on the program, which was already four times more than he had requested in his FY budget a few years earlier in 1969, but not the 24 billion the Dems wanted). The Dems overrode his veto and he responded by impounding funds until they reached an acceptable compromise.

.
;D my point was it didnt matter of the Ice age was true or not , the EPA was created , and as you pointed out several steps were taken , an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. Apr 26, 2007 (AP)
David Huckabee, a son of Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, was arrested at an Arkansas airport Thursday after a federal X-ray technician detected a loaded Glock pistol in his carry-on luggage.
"I removed the bag and asked Mr. Huckabee if he knew what he had in the bag," Little Rock police officer Arthur Nugent wrote in a report after being summoned to a security checkpoint. "He replied he did now."
Huckabee, 26, later pleaded guilty in Little Rock District Court after being charged with a misdemeanor count of possessing a weapon in a prohibited place.
"It was a silly mistake," Huckabee told reporters as he left the Pulaski County Jail. When asked whether it would affect his father's presidential campaign, Huckabee responded, "It shouldn't."
District Judge Lee Munson gave Huckabee a one-year suspended jail sentence and ordered him into 10 days of community service which Huckabee can avoid by paying $100. Huckabee will be on probation for a year. Fines and costs totaled $855.
The son of the former Arkansas governor held a concealed weapons permit at the time of the incident but state police are taking steps to revoke it. The elder Huckabee, who said last week that Virginia Tech gunman Seung-Hui Cho perhaps could have been stopped if a teacher or student had also been armed, also has a concealed weapons permit.
