I would make it my job to get rid of one law every month. The piles and piles of legislation is just crazy. I would also try and pass a bill stating all future laws must be hand written. That way people would be more to the point in future legislation. The Declaration of Independence is on one sheet of paper. If it takes 3000 pages to say it it probably doesn't need said.

It's not so simple. Language is inherently slippery and things can always be rationally characterized both narrowly and broadly to include/exclude them from the grasp of the language. That is why legislatures are as detailed as they are. Even that is almost never enough, there are always issues of statutory construction that come up over and over, there is ALWAYS ambiguity in law. ALWAYS. Scenarios that were not thought of at the time or not addressed, or with legislative history pointing both ways etc. It's a never ending cycle. The legislature enacts something and there is some fact pattern out there that illustrates some kind of ambiguity in a statute that later comes up and the Courts are left with this problem to resolve. They are left to look at the maze of legislative history and the numerous canons of construction and "dice loading presumptions" as Justice Scalia would say to attempt to resolve it and if the legislature doesn't like the judicial gloss on the statute, they'll go back and amend it to clarify the issue and then another issue will come up...over and over, back and forth. Even when you have a simple statute and an administrative agency promulgating more detailed regulations based on the statute, you will still very often have these problems, although they are dealt with alot easier when these agencies are involved, as courts generally will defer to them in disputes under the Chevron principle.

Colorado alone has several hundred law makers. I believe they have the ability to write 6 bills each per year. Multiply that by all the states and you have hundreds of bills being introduced daily.

I'd give yourself the ability to revoke 5,000 laws per month. ;D

Basically the entire process is a cluster ****.

I'd resign

I've asked myself quite a few times lately why the hell anyone would want to try to clean up after Dumbya.

It's akin to cleaning a feed lot with a salad fork.

Just can't be done.
