That kind of schtick will end a career in broadcasting quick. I just can't figure out why they hang on to Salisbury. The guy is an idiot. Sure, he picks on Clayton the pencil necked geek, but would he throw barbs at another ex-player? Sharpe? Davis? Marino?

Unprofessional and juvenile. ESPN has morphed into a ex-jock, frat sports channel, no wonder I'm watching ever less of them and more NFL network to go with SI.com and Foxsports. Yelling, buffoonery and insults is what now passes for sports news network.

Salisbury's just an elitist fraternity scumbag...and a Trojan to boot. What a dink.

Salisbury should be fired for that stunt. Clayton simply points out that Shockey is never healthy and then Salisbury freaks out.

There's a big difference between a true professional sports reporter like Clayton, who actually does his homework, and an ex-jock who just likes to voice his opinion.

Salisbury is a joke and shame on ESPN for allowing him to abuse a real professional, who just happens to be an easy target for a baffoon like Salisbury.

I know Sean through work he's done and doing currently with our station in Dallas and can say he's actually a really nice and pretty cool dude all around. He's also a Mavs season ticket holder and has a home in Dallas. He travels damn near constantly and does a good job juggling all his work with being able to still see his kids. Amazingly, he's actually lightened up a bit after losing his old man last year. I can vouch for Sean - he may seem like an ass on TV, but he's cool.

Yes, I just said that.

I tend to believe these "ad lib" interviews are very scripted. The sad thing is ESPN thinks this is what people want to see. I could be wrong but my gut says it was all planned at Clayton's expense.

Was just about to say the same thing. I heard Salisbury on the radio a couple years ago and he said that is their schtick on tv to hate each other. I don't find their banter funny or entertaining but I guess a lot of people would rather see them bicker back and forth instead of just talk about the topic at hand.

It is funny though if that crypt keeper line was ad libbed and it wasn't planned that nothing happens to Salisbury but Dana Jacobsen gets suspended for making a joke at a ROAST. :spit:

Well said. I've never liked Steak...he's a royal a$$hole....and while, yes, Clayton may look a little dorky....he's one of the most intelligent analysts that ESPN has, and I enjoy listening to what he has to say.

A network that brings us Steven A Smith and Jay Marriotti, Michael Irvin and Skip Bayless. Obviously there is a demographic for ignorant assholes and ESPN is diligent in catering to the lowest common denominator. If Clayton is truly offended by these comments, he should sound off like he's got a pair. If it's all schtick, then he and Sean, and their target audience, can all just carry on as usual.

I have noticed how every couple years they seem to add a new a-hole to their lineup to up the ante. I can barely stand it. I don't find watching old jerks yell at each other till one gets muted entertaining(AtH). What happened to informative, relative discussion?

Cryptkeeper smack is old as the hills anyway.

Snake Stabler was routinedly referred to as such when they cleaned him up and stuck a microphone in his hand.

This picture is fun. In desperation, the photographer used the old vaseline-on-the-lense trick that was employed to de-harshen Joan Collins for so many years.

I would have sworn on a stack of bibles that I saw Ken stumbling down Bourbon street Tuesday on Mardi Gras day.

Actually thought about going up and asking him until he swerved and stumbled directly into a peacock, pregnant nun and a group of 25+/- year old brownies.

The dude was a dead ringer for him.

It could be an act, but I somewhat doubt that video was totally planned. It's one thing to do the Jimmy and Jerry routine... it's another to drop physical smack on a fellow professional. Particularly a guy like Clayton who has some clout as an actual sports journalist. Why would Clayton need to sign on for that? What's in it for him?

"Hey John, we've got a great idea.... we're going to have an ex-back up QB make fun of your physical appearance in this next piece...."

"Great! I've been covering the game for a couple of decades, but I think this will really help my credibility."

I'm not really sure what the big deal is.

Finally got around to watching the video, and, it didn't seem that bad. Or, at least, it just seems right on track with every other time they're on TV.

"Witty barbs" like these are what they do, right? I mean, isn't this their schtick?
