be there in a bit baja. Do some deep sea fishing, scuba diving, got some business to take care of, then check out the 20/20, have a good ole time.

I guess here in Bailey its fine. My next door neighbor (tow truck driver) is always headin out on a call, so people who don't know how to drive in the snow helpin his economy out, other neighbors wife decided to quit her job cuz she got sick of working nights, but they seen pretty happy with everything.

Got a couple other neighbors who put their house on the market, someone decided they wanted to buy it, and they pulled out cuz I guess they weren't serious about selling.

Plenty of houses on sale out here, goin pretty cheap. Buyers market out here thats for sure. Wish I had a few mil so I could buy all these houses up. Make a killing in the future when Bailey turns into another Evergreen.

Here in Utah we've got one of the best economies in the nation. Jobs are begging people to work at their business. The housing crisis seemed to hit here last, but it has hit. They need to lower prices or they will not sell. There seems to be a hint of a downward turn though. Unemployment crept up just a bit in the last month. As it is nationwide people are not spending.

It's actually good here too...they interviewed a real estate agent on the radio the other day and she said it's been pretty stable...and she wanted to set the record straight...although this area they are usually pretty stable in real estate...no big highs or lows.

Working in Commercial Real Estate, specifically investments, I get to see first hand how well our economy may be doing, and how hesitant people may be about investing their money, and I don't see any real slow down. It's typically slower at this time of the year anyway, and usually picks up pretty well in the spring and summer months, so I'm not too worried about things at the moment.

I work in Denver, so it's a pretty large market.

Kinda hitting a slow down here , housing is pretty costly here but Casper is clearly split over development , east Casper grew pretty fast , slowing down a bit but we are getting a menards on the east side ....... the west side is pretty stagnant , few remodlings , a new super walmart , few offices here and there but that is about it ..... North and south Casper pretty much the same as it was 10 years ago

The crunch is starting to affect our industry. I'm encountering 15-20 bidders where the norm used to be 4-7. I assume this is due to the slow-down in the commercial and residential market. The problem is that these "new guys" are is some instances bidding at cost to keep their companies afloat until the market comes back to life. We are now looking at projects outside of our regular Metro Denver market. I'm actually considering bidding a project in Estes Park. We haven't even considered projects that far from Denver in 10 years.
Not Good IMO!

Hard to say, I've been at the same job for 12 years now, so don't really know
what the job market is like. And I'm sort of my own boss with just one
employee (me) so I haven't been looking to hire anyone. So again it's
hard to judge how many people are looking for work.

Not so much anymore. Now that I'm established and people know me,
most the work comes to me rather than me having to go out pounding
on doors. And the shop had been here for years before that. I used
to work for another guy, but after he retired I took over the shop.
So I still get some of his old business and he still steers business
my way.

Real estate market here has two sides. The suburbs are a clear buyers market. Inventory is huge, homes are staying on the market longer and prices (and home values themselves) by and large are dropping. The condo market downtown is the opposite. Prices are staying high, even though there is quite a bit of inventory.

Job market seems to be ok, unless you are involved heavily in Real Estate. We do a lot of high end commercial real estate work and those departments are D-E-A-D.

Luckily for people like me, the market will always be good. Law firms are always hiring....just depends on which areas are hiring and which are laying off. If there is a slowdown in real estate, they will most likely be hiring for corporate or finance, or some other area like bankruptcy which benefits from bad real estate markets like this. It's all about gaining experience in more than one area so you can survive these times.

Food and other goods around here don't seem to have gone up noticeably in price. Gas has been generally around $2.89 a gallon for regular in the burbs for the last few weeks. Seems to have leveled off.

Cost of housing depends on the price range. I believe the lower to mid level homes have dropped whereas the high priced homes have not been affected quite as drastically.

Groceries: 3 bags = $100 :wiggle:

Gas: Fill up my truck for about $80 YIKES

Economic health: COUGH!

Is that better?

Denver-Residential is still getting hit hard depending on the area. Commercial development still seems to be rolling forward. I'm bullish on certain areas of residential as I believe a bottom is close.

Steamboat- The machine rambles on. Huge cash reserves are still piling into the valley and there are 5 years worth of approved plans yet to built. There has been a slight pullback to where condos aren't selling within DAYS now. There was a point last year basic units were appreciating at $10,000 per month! I know people that put 20k down on a unit and walked with 100k by the end of the year. Not bad.

The reason for all the activity in Steamboat Springs was the purchase of the Ski Mountain by Intrawest. http://www.intrawest.com/index.htm

Love them or hate them they've made a lot of people who follow their investments in mountain towns very wealthy.

Food has gone up some. But I do most of my own cooking and baking
and tend not to buy a lot of junk food or fast food, so it's still
not a big part of my budget. Gasoline has gone WAY up.
Comcast keeps going up and up. Qwest has stayed about the same.
I have a dual rate electric meter and try to do most of the things
that need electricity in the off-peak hours. House is all electric
so don't know what natural gas prices are. Paid more
for my pick-up than the last one. But I've lived in the same house
for the last 22 years, and have a fixed loan at 5.5%, so not really
all that up on housing prices.

Things seem the same around me excpet houses just are not selling and have dropped in value by about 7-9% since the high bubble. I do know a few people who worked in finance that have lost jobs and had to move on to something else.

As far as Mexican tourism being down I'm not surprised. I have heard 3 seperate stories from people I know about being jumped and robbed. I also have read many stories about how it's just not safe anymore to camp along the beaches like so many californians have enjoyed doing in Mexico. Even the surfers no longer want to go to baja california. Tijuana is also completly run over by crime and violence now, it's just not fun anymore.

As far as Mexico goes, I'll be damned if I contribute to their economy. To many illegals are already sending all of the greenbacks they illegally earn here, over there.
I'll gladly spend more vacationing in the USA (Hawaii, PR, US Virgin Islands...etc.)

You know a condo in Dubai would probably be a good play. Citigroup/Bank of America owned by them controls most the notes on our American homes.

Hmm I wonder if it's even possible for an American to own property in Dubai? Probably not.

Looks like our over priced fixed oil prices are serving them well.

Hope you know French. I've been to Canada on a few occasions, one to play in a hockey tourney and others to pretty much watch hockey. My uncle owned a big business in Toronto and went to visit him awhile ago, your more than likely to run into French speaking people than those that speak English in the East. Besides the language barrier, it's a great nice city regardless.

However that wouldn't be where I would live. Vancouver would be my choice if I were to leave this great country.

My Mom (Mum as they would say) is from BC and Victoria Island so that could be a stop for me but in reality, too damn cold. Orange County will suffer some because of the inflated home prices dropping and many are in that industry. The housing market will affect many like myself in this economy. I will tell you guys that if you have a solid job and want to move to SoCal, there are places damn cheap and even horse property. When I say cheap, in contrast to Orange COunty prices from 2 years ago. You can get out of the snow for $350 about 45 minutes from OC. East of course.

“Inflation is at 16-year highs in Saudi Arabia and Oman, a 19-year peak in the United Arab Emirates. Gulf policymakers are intervening directly in loans, property and commodity markets to offset rate cut.” (Reuters)

Property values have skyrocketed. Commercial property in the UAE has doubled since the beginning of 2007. The inflation-bomb has forced other Gulf states to provide food subsidies for their people and a “70% wage rise for some Emirati federal government employees.”

Disgruntled migrant workers rioted in Dubai recently, demanding to be fairly compensated for the sharp increase in prices. The Saudi riyal has climbed to a 21-year peak.

Currency traders expect another 8% rise in the dirham and riyal by April and they are predicting that interest rates will compel Central bankers throughout Gulf states to covert to either the euro or a basket of regional currencies. So far, however, the loyal Saudi princes have continued their support for the dollar.

Fooled the North Koreans when the took prisoners the crew of the USS Pueblo.
There was a famous picture at the time where the North Koreans sent

It had all the captured US sailors sitting there flipping the bird.
