Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson feels betrayed by head coach Marvin Lewis and is privately threatening to sit out the 2008 season if he isn't traded, according to a source.

Johnson was upset after the coach quit speaking to his receiver early in the season, according to the source.

The Bengals star wideout has been making the rounds with the media at the Super Bowl. When asked on Jim Rome's radio show this week about whether or not he was happy with Bengals, Johnson sounded less than happy.

"I'm not allowed to say. I get the blame; the so-called best player, I'm the problem. Someone in-house is spreading this. Maybe they want me to quiet down [and] stop being me. That is not going to happen. I can't function that way. I tried it. It sucked. There was no excitement."

Lewis has said he won't trade Johnson, who finished with a single-season franchise-record 1,440 receiving yards. Johnson has had six consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards and is under contract with the Bengals through 2011 after signing a $35.5 million extension in April 2006.

"Obviously, there is a lot of frustration with things that happened last year as it pertains to Chad," Johnson's agent, Drew Rosenhaus told The Cincinnati Enquirer.

Rosenhaus tried to explain his client's recent statements to the media.

"What Chad is doing [in the radio interviews] is expressing his emotions and frustration."

I'm not sure Lewis has any say in the matter if Bungles want to get rid of CJ...he's just the coach, right?

I'd get rid of Lewis. This thing with Chad Johnson is just an extension of the culture that Lewis has created in Cincinatti.

No thanks. He's a jerk, and not worthy of wearing the logo.

Do you really want his side show circus in Denver?

NO FREAKING THANKS!!!!

Need no jerks or prima donnas here. He would be an absolute distraction to Marshall and to Cutler on O and to the DBs on D..... He needs to go to a team that needs a personality..... Maybe the Dolphins or the Iggles......

Chad Johnson works hard, just because he has a upbeat attitude doesn't mean ****. Shannon Sharpe... you guys would rather not have him in the past right?

Funny thing, I know you guys would rather not have most of the Patriots players because of their "attitudes" but look at them. They're making history. I bet no one here wanted Randy Moss.

Chad Johnson would be an instant upgrade to this team. No injury history, hard worker, amazing route runner.<!-- / message -->

So what about Shannon Sharpe? Bill Romo?

This guy is less of a problem than you guys really think. He jokes around and has an upbeat personality, but this guy doesn't **** around when it comes to competition.

You guys want a team full of pansies.

Randy Moss is a criminal who committed assault with his vehicle. He could catch a million balls for a million TDs and he still wouldn't be worthy.

We have turned a page. We no longer want turds and jerks. Only the better, more cultured people. It goes better with the Chardonay and Merlot at the stadium.

And Rosencrunch doesn't interview well.....

I love Chad Johnson's attitude. He's upbeat, a joker, reminds me a lot of Shannon. He brings it for gameday. I would love to have Johnson on the otherside from Marshall, but yeah, it's not going to happen.

You guys want to know what it sounds like?

It sounds like you guys are a bunch of bitches looking for a boyfriend.

Oh man his personality is too rough.

Man the **** up and recognize that we need energy. The more guys we have on the field that just come do their job, the more guys we have that don't bring energy when we really ****in need it.

I suggest you guys look at yourself and define the game you're watching. It's called football.

Chad Johnson isn't doing his job on the field. Which is why he wants a trade. The guy slugged his coach. They are tired of him. We can do better. You compare him to Sharpe. Sharpe was never a me first person on the field, Johnson is a me first player. Sure he's talented. But if you cannot work with people on your team, all the talent in the world doesn't matter.

I'm sure Chad would be more then happy with our 1 yard pass plays we run all the time in Denver. Sounds like a 1 yr marriage to me along with a huge cap hit when he screams about problems here. Great plan to me. Do we need a talent like him on our team no doubt most agree on that part its the rest of it that turns most off.

This wouldn't bother me at all.

Serious question as we have had our back and forth arguments already.

Are you saying it wouldn't bother you at all that he sat out? Because if that is so I whole heartedly agree. Now if if you are saying bring him in then I whole heartedly disagree.

EDIT: I missed your last post on this thread, so we are on the same page.

Anybody who is willing to sit out because he isn't the man is not what the Broncos need. I would rather keep Javon who will pout and talk to the media but will still play.

Dude you are seriously becoming one of those Madden posters who many dislike around here. Most of us are watching football not playing a simulation and Chad Johnson is not a fix.

I don't necessarily think we should trade for him. but this chad johnson hate is silly. all he does is play at a pro bowl level every god damn year.

Yes because up until this year Moss was the same attitude. Buts that not even a valid argument. Moss is lights out a better WR.

Stats aren't everything. He can't run block for anything. Further more to the topic, we already have a top flight receiver in Marshall that performs at the same level and blocks.

So what about Shannon Sharpe? Bill Romo?

These guys were good for a quote however both were team players through and through. Whenever they were over the top and coaching approached them about it, they toned down and did not keep things going in the media. Chad hasn't shown much discipline in that manner. Some of his statements seem very me first. You can't contribute that attitude to Shannon or Romo. BIG BIG DIFFERENCE.

Some of us didn't care for Sharpe's mouth either.....for the record.

Geeze...the thought of Johnson sitting out the entire season....how wonderful that would be! I'd almost beg for it to happen.

Chad's never been the sharpest tack in the box. If he thought his bottom line was hurting by the small market Bengals sucking (not as much national TV face time as a result) then this move would make him pretty much obscure by the end of 2008. One less self-promoting, self serving, (excuse me upbeat ::) ) mouthy fool in the NFL.

As big of a attention whore as Johnson can be he is a good teamamte, he is a good player and he does compete every play. He would add a lot to the Broncos, but I'm just not sure I would want him around Marshall. I see that attitude in Marshall only on a smaller scale and if he was exposed to a guy like Johnson, Marshall's ego might just explode.
