Ron Paul has a shot at winning Maine caucuses
State's nonbinding GOP caucuses first step toward electing 18 delegates

AUGUSTA, Maine - Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul has a couple of things going for him at this weekend's Republican caucuses: a band of highly motivated supporters and a natural appeal to Maine's like-minded independents.

His stop in the state earlier this week also made him the only presidential contender from either party to visit before the caucuses.

"I think that (because) he's paid attention to Maine, he'll be rewarded," R. Kenneth Lindell, Paul's campaign coordinator in Maine, said Thursday.
If we have a good showing here in Maine, that could carry forward into Super Tuesday when we could pick up delegates," Lindell said. That would be significant in the case of a brokered convention, he said.

That's news to me. It's still on where I live, I just listened to a Randi Rhodes rant just this week. That woman is over the top... I don't see how anyone can listen to her on a daily basis. I'd lose my teeth.

Hilarious!

Tax and spent to death by the left?

Hello?

The far right, led by George W. Bush and his rubber stamp GOP Congress, have borrowed and spent America into oblivion.

You say you don't like taxes, but who do you think is going to pay the tab for Bush's Iraq fiasco?

The sort of profligate spending by Bush and the republi-cons over the past seven years makes anything the Democrats have done seem like chicken feed by comparison.

you have a point on the cost of the war L.A. , with it and katrina and 9/11 these 8 years was hellish in someways ... somethings uncontrollable , something that was mismanaged totally ... I'm not sure Gore or Kerry could of did "much" better , "lets not make this into for/against the war"
but in general the left is tax and spend , that is just history , different times call for different leaders ... and right now is a time when there needs to be compromise on both sides .

One can only speculate here, but I don't think there is any evidence that would support the hypothesis that a President Gore or a President Kerry would have botched things as bad as Dubya on that front.

Judging from past experience and observable facts, Clinton was a full-fledged fiscal conservative compared to Bush II.

Plus Clinton had FEMA running like a fine tuned watch. The head of FEMA
was a cabinet level post and reported directly to Clinton. I doubt
Gore would have messed FEMA up and FEMA would have much better handled
the Katrina disaster. And Gore probably wouldn't have been on vacation
when it happened.

And Bush's borrow from China and spend policy is better?
To me it would seem the country would be a lot better
off if it raised the money internally through taxes.

Mix-up reveals what President George Bush must do when words fail him at UN

George Bush gave a rare insight into his struggle with pronunciation yesterday when the White House mistakenly released an unedited script of his speech to the UN General Assembly.

The President, famous for mangling the pronunciation of “nuclear”, coining words such as “misunderestimate” and once forgetting the name of President Musharraf of Pakistan, gets a phonetic guide to key foreign names, the text reveals.

Mr Bush is coached not only on far-flung foreign places such as “KEYR-geez-stan” but also the name of his new French ally, President “sar-KO-zee”. He received no aid with the pronunciation of the Burmese opposition leader, and duly stumbled when he tried to pronounce “Aung San Suu Kyi”.

David Frum, a former Bush speechwriter, told The Times that all presidential speeches contained phonetic guides, but passing the unedited version to the press was an “oversight”. The accidental release of the pronunciation guide marred an otherwise eloquent address to the 192-nation UN General Assembly, Mr Bush urged member states to join in a “mission of liberation” and predicted that “the long rule of a cruel dictator is nearing its end” in Cuba.

“This great institution must work for great purposes: to free people from tyranny and violence; to combat disease, illiteracy, and ignorance and poverty and despair,” he said.

Making only a passing reference to the war in Iraq, Mr Bush saluted “young democracies” in Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan, and called on the world to support the “moderate” leaders of the Palestinian lands.

The President gave warning that extremists were trying to impose a “hateful vision” on the world, although he did not mention al-Qaeda by name. “In the long run the best way to defeat extremists is to defeat their dark ideology with a more hopeful vision – the vision of liberty.”

Mr Bush excoriated the “brutal regimes” in Belarus, Iran, North Korea, Syria and Zimbabwe and looked ahead to the end of Fidel Castro’s rule.

“The Cuban people are ready for their freedom,” he said. “As that nation enters a period of transition, the UN must insist on free speech, free assembly and, ultimately, free and competitive elections.”

The Cuban delegation walked out, calling Mr Bush’s speech “arrogant and mediocre”. Most of the US delegation in turn left the room when President Ahmadinejad rose to speak, reiterating that Iran’s nuclear programme was “completely peaceful and transparent”.

The major powers had “lost the competence to lead the world,” the Iranian leader declared. “Palestine and Iraq will be liberated from the domination of the occupiers, and the people of America and Europe will be free of the pressures exerted by the Zionists.”

This is how he says it

Pronunciation guides from the mistakenly released speech:

Sarkozy sar-KO-zee
Mugabe moo-GAH-bee
Harare hah-RAR-ray
Kyrgyzstan KEYR-geez-stan
Mauritania moor-EH-tain-ee-a

Tax and spend = Pay as you go , not a bad system , better than what we have now , as for the rest , we need competent Strong leaders in office , not the Leslie Nielsens of police squad types ......
another thing you bitch about taxes , well what I paid in taxes under Democrats pales in comparison to what I am paying now in foor prices , gas , Energy to heat my home , Healthcare cost , etc ......
