Any idea if guys like Warrick Holdman, Eddie Moore, and Sam Brandon might be brought back next year if healthy again? I know Holdman was placed on IR, but I think Moore and Brandon were released.

I think you can say that Moore and Brandon are done with football, sad as it is.

My wife and I were talking about Brandon the other day. the way he shut down TE's was greatly missed and I would love nothing more then to see him back in the Orange and Blue.

You'll probably see Sam Brandon attempt a comeback.

I really wish Sam Brandon could make a comeback, because A.Gates was shutdown with him in the Defense backfield. And plus I met him, a couple years ago after a broncos game and seems like a really good guy.

Holdman still has another season under contract. Depends on how he comes back and what opposition he's up against. He was pencilled in as the starter at SLB until he got hurt.

I don't know about Moore, but Holdman and (sadly) Brandon are finished because of injuries.

Is Ekuban coming back?

Shanny said in his season-ending presser that Ekuban's achilles injury was worse than we all thought.
Said he could be 100% by mid-May or maybe June.

If he comes back full strength, will he start?

I'd hope he would at least overtake Engleberger's roster spot, maybe open the season at LDE. Moss, Doom, Crowder, Ekuban and Mallard. Would be pretty set at end.

There is really no point in even bringing him back then. Basically a full year off the football field, at his age, with the step back his athletic abilities will take from this injury (at least for the first year back). He won't be worth a damn.

Ekuban is a FA isn't he?

Yeah he is a FA.. He might end up with another team or if he does come back it will be cheap.. I say give him a shot and see what he does.

No-one will offer Ekuban a deal until he's 100% or near it.

Reminds me, anyone hear anything about Al Wilson lately?
Ekuban is a FA isn't he?
Yep, which is why we should leave well enough alone. We got a few good seasons out of him for fairly cheap, no need to keep going to a well when its already running dry. He's $1-$2M in cap space we'd be better off hanging onto and using for something else with more reliable productivity.

I would rather see some young guys step up, but remember two things.
1. Ekuban was our best performing lineman at the time of his injury.
2. He was no doubt, our best conditioned (and strongest) lineman as well.
I bet Eb has been keeping himself in pretty good shape, and will fight hard to come back to this team (or another team). He is aging and injured, but he is a strong individual and I think he will be back in football this year. Who knows, I think we are all about to witness the big d-line scramble we saw last year also. At least several of the guys are our young draft picks, so they should still be around.
DT is wide open, and the DE scheme will be very interesting to watch unfold. Do we find a better starter than Engleberger? Is Crowder ready to take his spot? Is Mallard? That means Jarvis and Elvis fight for the other side.
The D-line competition is training camp will be very interesting.

I aske Wabbit about Holdman a few weeks back and Wab said:
I had a chance to ask LBs coach Joe Baker about Holdman early in December.
He said the team views the recovery from the injury with 'guarded optimism'...yeah, I know, but there really are some positives.
What that means is that Holdmans' vertebrae was not irreparably damaged resulting in a certain end to his football career.
Rather, he will continue monthly testing to gauge recovery and several medical decisions about his playing status...here or elsewhere... will be made prior to the OTA's.
I actually talked with Holdman in Novermber & he insisted that he could suit up & play. He also recognized that he was just feeling much better...not really in playing condition, but didn't really want to talk in any depth.
He is working on body conditioning at Dove Valley & elsewhere...Arizona I think, maybe Texas...but NOT on football conditioning or anything remotely involving contact.
Kind of a mixed bag really, but I've been told players rarely, if ever, fully recover from neck injuries to play football again. They can lead a full and active life, they just cannot sustain football contact any longer.
Perhaps Holdman is an exception. The Broncos certainly could've used him this year.
The verdict on Holdman will be coming down the line in February or March
I was hoping that Holdman could help in 2008.
