I can't stand those freaks!

I once dated a chick whose father was L. Ron Hubbard's right-hand man.

Both her mother and her father tried to to convert me, and when I refused their advances, they pressured her into giving me the boot.

A truly creepy cult!

For some reason my computer is not loading the video...can someone give me cliff notes?

On a related note I just went to a funeral at the original church of scientology here in Clearwater. I'll admit I know virtually nothing about their beliefs except they don't go to the doctors or take medicine.

Only thing I can really say is that their funeral proceedings are more like an exorcism. I was extremely glad the service was very short.

I was in NYC a2 years ago walking down Fifth Ave. near mid town when this very pretty young women approached me and asked if I would like to see a film. Well she had me at hello so we walked a couple of blocks to the Scientology headquarters where I was put through the slickest indoctrination system I have ever seen. After the film she disappeared and they brought the heavy guns. Well about 3 hours and 70 dollars worth of tapes and books later I was back on the street. I still haven't looked at the books and I still can't get off their email list.

The "Cliff Notes" version of the 35-minute film is that L. Ron Hubbard was a visionary genius who worked his whole life for the betterment of all mankind by researching and discovering (but never creating, cuz that would imply he made it up) the "scientific" principles of dianetics and scientology. If you're willing to spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars on mythology that reads like bad science fiction, you too can demonstrate your commitment to being your own best friend and take your rightful place in the universe as a triumphant immortal being. All of this, of course, is opposed by the diabolical plots and evil schemes of all conventional religions, the government, psychology and psychiatry.

I think that's the nutshell version. Now I have to go scrape it all off my tongue. Blech.

BTW, when you mention no medicine and no doctors I think you're probably actually thinking of the Christian Scientists. The churches of Christian Science have been around for about 100 years, and are all based off the "visions" and biblical reinterpretations of their founder, Mary Baker Eddy. The Christian Scientists at least claim to stay within shouting distance of their original Christian roots; it's just they've got their own unique spin on the "real meaning" of the Bible.

m.

Hubbard used what he learned from crowley and made a cult.
