...pastors in large and small churches across the country are expelling members for offenses ranging from adultery and theft to gossiping, skipping service and criticizing church leaders.
Bingo!
You skip service, you ain't puttin' that dollar in the collection plate!
You criticize a church leader, you're questioning their authority! And we can't have any of those evilutionists questioning the Bible College graduate on the age of the earth!
:giggle:

Oh, you got that right, Rohirrim. And the good people at Watermark Community Church in Dallas, TX are living proof!
From the article:
Watermark Community Church, a nondenominational church in Dallas that draws 4,000 people to services, requires members to sign a form stating they will submit to the "care and correction" of church elders.
That's merely one step away from passing out the Kool-Aid!

That chuch is what...12 members large?
It sounds like typical small town church drama.
You cannot extrapolate what happens in that little church over the entirety of the practice of all denominations of Christianity.
Doesnt make much sense, reallly.
I have, however, always had a problem with the common practice of the Jehovas Witnesses of expelling members over sin. They have no problem breaking up families in the process.
KSW LRH baja. KSW LRH. :)

Well Pope has as it's base the same word as poppa. The Pope is the father
of the Catholic Church. This was Jesus' idea. He was the original father
of the church, and He appointed Peter as his next in line, with subsequent
Popes as carrying on the line.
So yeah, anyone can go off and start their own church and call themselves
the father of their church. But these guys can't trace themselves back

For a guy to be called the original father of the church, when he preached church wasn't necessary - is like calling Kurt Cobain the father of grunge. See when Jesus died/rebirthed then he became bigger than he was. Not being insulting, i find jesus as important as Krisna & Osiris

You are the one "playing semantics", Josh. You are not saying anything new when you bring gnostic perspectives into the discussion. In fact, the apostle Paul spent plenty of time addressing the gnostic beliefs in his letters.
I would suggest reading proper academic exegesis of the apostle Paul, and following it up with an interlinear greek read through his texts. This might help you with some of the things you are having trouble reconciling.
A greek interlinear might help you understand what was happening, and some of the things that Jesus said that may clear up some of your misconceptions.
Have a nice day.

Man is not dualistic, man is depraved. It is not in man's nature to intinctively do anything remotely Christ-like. We have paternal and maternal instinct, but everything else given to us through evolution is for pure survival.

Well, as i said before. Illumination never ends. So there is no "one way". All the academia in the world will only give you knowledge, not wisdom. You can do all the theory you want, but until you put it into practice you haven't really learned anything.
Thanks for the unsolicited advice. I'll be sure to put that in the "for your consideration" file.
I asked you to look at and discuss texts, and you replied with a load of mystical hogwash.
Forgive me if I dont take your advice seriously.

You never ASKED me to do anything, you TOLD me to. When i reiterated that i've read many translations from greek/hebrew/latin - you wished to change subject to "how can i believe you". Ye of little faith. :)

Nah, he'd be really popular in the mid east.
He'd probably have no problem claiming Islam, and then BOOM! He's all the way to the top, baby!

You changed the subject to "I am kind of Jewish, so I know better than you", which doesnt even deserve addressing.
I made the claim that you dont understand Jesus in light of proper exegesis, to which you made a claim about experience, and deferred to your experience over proper academic discussion.
It doesnt sound like you should concern yourself with teaching anybody anything if you cannot come to terms with commonly practiced responsibilities in communication.

Yep, i'm jewish through my mothers side. But as we can see, your comprehension is pretty poor. :)
Oh, i'm not calling you a sinner - i'm just pointing out your dualistic nature. The only struggle is letting it go. Let it all go llama, the only struggle is you are afraid to die.
Best post on this thread so far!

Catholic Curchs new theme song .......... I was into whips and chains, the alter boy was into pain , I beat him black and blue when he called me names , chained him to the basement wall where he went insane .......
That's pretty well off the wall, Josh.
Man is not dualistic, man is depraved. It is not in man's nature to intinctively do anything remotely Christ-like. We have paternal and maternal instinct, but everything else given to us through evolution is for pure survival.
We have severed the cord with God. He stands outside knocking on the door.
What about;
<b>"Of these things I do so shall you do and more" - Jesus of Nazarus.</b>

Thanks for the insight there, buddy.
