You are the one "playing semantics", Josh. You are not saying anything new when you bring gnostic perspectives into the discussion. In fact, the apostle Paul spent plenty of time addressing the gnostic beliefs in his letters.

I would suggest reading proper academic exegesis of the apostle Paul, and following it up with an interlinear greek read through his texts. This might help you with some of the things you are having trouble reconciling.

A greek interlinear might help you understand what was happening, and some of the things that Jesus said that may clear up some of your misconceptions.
